Jimmy Stewart. He was the first major actor to enlist after Pearl Harbor. He flew B-24s, B-47s, and B-52s. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the French Croix de Guerre with palm, and the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters. Including his Reserve service, he served 27 years, at which time he was awarded the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal and retired at the mandatory age of 60 as a brigadier general. He never talked about his service publicly.
