Why are iphones so compromised now?

It used to be crap microsoft computers kept having the hysterical warning ZOMG UPDATE NAO OR DYE!!!! …. People quickly figured out to wait at least 48 if not 72 hours on updates or risk bricking their computers.

So the iphone update panic sounds like a truckload of BS.

When did iphones get at least as compromised as microsoft computers?
