NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A federal investigation is underway into Nashville's mayor for his actions during ICE's crackdown in the Mid-State.

 

Mayor Freddie O'Connellis accused of putting federal agents at risk with his directive to report ICE communications and using taxpayer money to help illegal immigrants.

 

Mayor O'Connell said that is not true and will turn over any information needed.

 

He is at the center of an investigation by the Homeland Security and Judiciary committees.

 

The letter sent to him alleges he is stopping the work of federal immigration officials, not just endangering them.

 

Documents are requested from the Mayor to get to the bottom of things.

 

Congressman Andy Ogles has been the leading voice to get the investigation going.

 

"Enough is enough, and we're going to hold you(Mayor O'Connell) accountable," said Congressman Ogles.

 

The fact-finding mission is looking into several issues. The allegation is that he is helping illegal immigrants with taxpayer money through the Belonging Fund.

 

The fund was created at the start of the ICE-THP crackdown earlier this month.

 

Mayor O'Connell wanted to clarify things.

 

"There is no public funding that is a part of the Belonging Fund," he said.

 

"You know, we'll hold an investigation, we'll have hearings, we'll just follow the facts as they are," said Congressman Ogles.

 

The probe also looks into the Mayor's Office posting the names of federal immigration officials.

 

FOX 17 News discovered the data was available on the Office of New Americans website.

 

The Mayor's Office initially told us it was for transparency, then said it was a mistake, which led to the names being removed.

 

"It was never the intent of the executive order for those names to be posted," he said. "We're working on new safeguards and procedures to avoid it happening again."

 

The letter said, nevertheless, "communications with ICE personnel raises the prospect that Metro employees may use nonpublic information to warn criminal aliens of planned ICE enforcement operations."

 

We asked Congressman Ogles if it's still considered doxing if Mayor O'Connell didn't intend to post the names of federal immigration officials.

 

"Well, I would say it is," said Congressman Ogles.

 

Mayor O'Connell said none of his policies qualify Nashville as a sanctuary city, but Ogles and the federal committees believe his actions imply otherwise.

 

Mayor O'Connell has until June 12 to turn the requested documents over.

 

Congressman Ogles said the findings would be sent to either the judicial branch or to the U.S. Attorney General to decide if the Mayor will face consequences.

I recognize your essence. I appreciate it as well. Just as one is not like the other, anons are all different types. Some are soothing and able to ease or heal so to speak. Some are battle able and ready. We need each other to be cohesive.
