Hegseth orders Navy to rename ship honoring gay rights activist Harvey Milk
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the Navy to strike the name of pioneering gay rights activist Harvey Milk from one of its ships, orchestrating the change as Pride month celebrations take place, according to sources.
A defense official said the timing of the decision was intentional.
The order was first reported by Military.com and confirmed by ABC News.
Milk was one of the first openly gay men elected to public office in the United States after winning a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977. He was assassinated a year later.
Before serving in public office, Milk in 1951 enlisted in the Navy and attended Officer Candidate School in Rhode Island.
Milk served nearly four years in the Navy, according to a post from the Department of Veterans Affairs. He was discharged at the rank of a junior lieutenant after being threatened with a court martial because of his sexual orientation.
Both his mother and his father also served in the U.S. Navy in World War I.
The Pentagon's chief spokesman, Sean Parnell, issued a statement saying that any renamings "will be announced after internal reviews are complete."
"Secretary Hegseth is committed to ensuring that the names attached to all DOD installations and assets are reflective of the Commander-in-Chief's priorities, our nation's history, and the warrior ethos," Parnell added in a statement.
The USNS Harvey Milk is one of several ships named after prominent civil rights leaders and activists. A new name has not been announced.
"The reported decision by the Trump administration to change the names of the USNS Harvey Milk and other ships in the John Lewis-class is a shameful, vindictive erasure of those who fought to break down barriers for all to chase the American dream," former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said in a Tuesday statement.
Other ships in the John Lewis class include the Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sojourner Truth, John Lewis and Thurgood Marshall, among others.
"Our military is the most powerful in the world – but this spiteful move does not strengthen our national security or the 'warrior' ethos," she added. "Instead, it is a surrender of a fundamental American value: to honor the legacy of those who worked to build a better country."
Before his death, Milk was credited with encouraging his friend and artist Gilbert Baker, a U.S. Army veteran to create the Pride flag. Milk was played by Sean Penn in the 2008 biographical film "Milk."
California Gov. Gavin Newsom also criticized the reported renaming, saying, "Donald Trump's assault on veterans has hit a new low."
"Harvey Milk wasn't just a civil rights icon – he was a Korean War combat veteran whose commander called him 'outstanding,'" he added. "Stripping his name from a Navy ship won't erase his legacy as an American icon, but it does reveal Trump's contempt for the very values our veterans fight to protect."

Fact Check: Harvey Milk was a Pedophile
The media is ‘mediaing’ again and confusing its leftist culture war beliefs with actual facts.
Temecula school board president calls Harvey Milk ‘pedophile’ before book banning vote – CBS LA
An ugly scene played out at the Temecula Valley School Board meeting as they voted 3-2 to reject an elementary school social studies book that contained information about pioneering California gay rights figure Harvey Milk. The board’s president made a baseless accusation that Milk was a pedophile before voting to ban the book.
“My question is, why even mention a pedophile?” said Board President Dr. Joseph Komrosky.
By “baseless”, the media means that it hasn’t heard of it in its echo chamber and won’t even dignify it by spending 3 seconds researching it.
“As Daniel Flynn explains in Cult City: Jim Jones, Harvey Milk and 10 Days That Shook San Francisco, ‘Milk’s taste in men veered toward boys.’ Milk was nearly 17 years older than teenager Joe Campbell and Jack Galen was only 16 to Milk’s 33. Former Marine Oliver “Bill” Sipple slept with men and “knew that Harvey Milk slept with boys.” In a letter to Sipple, Milk said he had many things to do that day, such as “cook dinner, fuck Jack, take a bath, fuck Jack, listen to some music, fuck Jack, wash the dishes, fuck Jack,” and so on.
Jack was a teenage runaway. He ended up heavily on drugs.
That’s the real ugliness. Not someone actually mentioning these facts.
Now the media may argue that having a taste for underage boys doesn’t make Milk a “pedophile” in the technical sense of the word, that luring and addicting an underage teen isn’t the behavior of a pedophile.
They’re welcome to try and make that argument as long as they’re honest about it.
Milk was an enabler of Jim Jones, whose church was notorious for its abuses, and he was a classic sexual predator.
The media can argue that he was a sexual predator who enabled the abuse of children, but was not technically a pedophile.
Then maybe the media can explain why this lovely human being should have books about him pushed on kids.

I count Elon Musk as a good friend, and Congressional Republicans appreciate everything he has done to put a spotlight on waste, fraud, and abuse in government.
Now that DOGE has identified wasteful spending, it is being quantified by the Administration, and codified by Congress via the rescissions process and appropriations process.
With all due respect, Elon is simply wrong about the One Big Beautiful Bill.
Our legislation comprehensively delivers on every major campaign promise and the America First agenda, while ALSO securing historic savings of more than $1.6 TRILLION.
It’s going to keep our borders secure, provide historic tax relief for hardworking Americans, unleash American energy dominance, reduce spending, and restore peace through strength.
Congress is working hard to get this to President Trump’s desk by July 4th so we can deliver on the mandate the American people gave us.

This terrorist will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We are investigating to what extent his family knew about this heinous attack, if they had knowledge of it, or if they provided support to it.
I am continuing to pray for the victims of this attack and their families.
Justice will be served.

Wyoming Part of Massive Geothermal Reserve That Could Power 10% of America
A new U.S. Geological Survey study has identified Wyoming’s western border as part of a massive geothermal reserve that could generate electricity equal to 10% of America’s current power supply. The assessment highlights the potential for a dramatic increase in geothermal electricity production, which currently provides less than 1% of the nation's energy.
The study focuses on enhanced geothermal systems, which use hydraulic stimulation—similar to fracking—to create fractures in impermeable rock, allowing water to circulate and extract heat. While Wyoming has active geothermal sources in Yellowstone National Park, the new findings suggest additional untapped potential outside the park. However, widespread deployment of advanced geothermal technology will be necessary to fully harness this energy.

Teen Molested By Illegal Alien Who Biden Admin Sent Her To Live With, Police Say
More than 120,000 “unaccompanied alien children” entered the country annually during the Biden administration as part of a loophole that let illegal immigrants stay in the country if they said they were under 18 and were not with their parents.
That incentivized families to separate, paying human traffickers to take the children across the border alone. When the children arrived, they were astonishingly vulnerable to exploitation: they didn’t speak English, they were underage, they were in debt to cartels, and they were afraid to go to the police because they were illegal immigrants.
But Democrats had accused President Donald Trump of holding “kids in cages,” referring to the secure facilities developed by the Obama administration. So, when Joe Biden became president, he sought to avoid the charge of hypocrisy by quickly finding places for the children to live.
The problem was there were no safe homes waiting to take in hundreds of thousands of children. So the Biden administration began sending them to live in the homes of illegal immigrant adults who often were not related to them. It was impossible to vet them since the “sponsors” were illegal themselves, and since the Department of Health and Human Services is not a law enforcement agency.
As a result, contractors received billions of dollars to process the children, and HHS officials used makeshift vetting, such as having sponsors text a picture of a foreign passport to them. But there was no way of knowing whether the sponsors were who they said they were, and no way to check foreign criminal records or the authenticity of documents with the governments of their home countries.
Biden’s immigration policies came under renewed scrutiny this week after an illegal immigrant granted a work visa by the Biden administration threw a Molotov cocktail at a group of pro-Israel demonstrators in Colorado. Mohamed Sabry Soliman, a 45-year-old Egyptian national and illegal alien, is believed to have entered the United States on a visa before he was granted work authorization by the Biden administration, which he overstayed after it expired in March, The Daily Wire reported.
Biden’s Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said after children were delivered by contractors to “sponsors” — who government officials had typically never seen until the drop-off — the federal government was no longer responsible. Mayorkas also claimed that stopping the trafficking of children for labor was “outside the responsibility” of DHS.
But Democrats, led by Kamala Harris, pushed to prevent HHS from sharing data with other federal and state government agencies, ostensibly to protect the privacy of the illegal immigrant adults and children. That meant that local school districts and state child welfare offices had no idea that the children existed, making it impossible to ensure that they were attending school and not being trafficked for labor or sex.
Federal whistleblowers told Congress the scheme amounted to taxpayer-funded human trafficking, and the New York Times reported that one-third of the children could not be located 30 days after being placed with a “sponsor.”
Democrats said the solution was more money, obscuring the fact that HHS has no law enforcement powers and could not do anything to punish sponsors who would not say where the child was, even though an American whose child disappeared would go to jail.
In August, the Department of Homeland Security inspector general said the department did not know the location of 300,000 minors, and “[w]ithout an ability to monitor the location and status of UCs, ICE has no assurance UCs are safe from trafficking, exploitation, or forced labor.”
The inspector general mentioned a case similar to Lopez-Carillo’s, in which “[o]ne ICE officer expressed concern with not being able to take action in a case involving a UC whose sponsor claimed the UC was in an inappropriate relationship with her husband.” That same month, the Democratic National Committee made preserving the unaccompanied minor loophole a plank of its 2024 platform.
Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, said rescuing the missing “unaccompanied alien children” is a priority.

Ford reports 16% sales increase in May amid employee pricing, tariffs
-Ford on Tuesday reported a 16.3% year-over-year U.S. sales increase for May, as the automaker continues an employee pricing program amid rising tariff costs.
-Sales for the Detroit automaker were led by a 17.2% increase in purchases of its vehicles with traditional internal combustion engines, as well as a roughly 29% jump in hybrid models.
-Cox Automotive last week forecast the U.S. sales pace for May to have been slower than the “tariff-inspired buying surge” of the previous two months.
DETROIT — Ford Motor
on Tuesday reported a 16.3% year-over-year U.S. sales increase for May, as the automaker continues an employee pricing program amid rising tariff costs and vehicle price increases.
Sales for the Detroit automaker were led by a 17.2% increase in purchases of its vehicles with traditional internal combustion engines, as well as a roughly 29% jump in hybrid models. Those gains offset a 25% drop in sales of all-electric vehicles — notably its electric F-150 — compared with May 2024.
May marked the third consecutive year-over-over, double-digit sales increase for the automaker, led the past two months by its employee pricing program that’s continuing through the Fourth of July weekend.
“Ford’s ‘From America, For America’ employee pricing program continues to connect with customers and drive strong sales results,” a Ford spokesman said in an emailed statement.
The automaker announced the pricing promotion as President Donald Trump’s 25% auto tariffs on imported vehicles took effect in early April.
However, since then, Ford has announced some vehicle price increases, specifically on those imported from Mexico. A Ford spokesman told Reuters the price hikes, which affected vehicles built after May 2, were a combination of seasonal adjustments and tariff impacts.
Beginning in late March, consumers rushed to purchase new vehicles ahead of potential price increases due to tariffs, assisting automotive industry sales during the second quarter.
But Cox Automotive last week forecast the U.S. sales pace for May would be slower than the “tariff-inspired buying surge” of the prior two months.
Cox forecast the May seasonally adjusted annual rate, or sales pace, to be about 16 million, up slightly from a year earlier but a significant decline from March’s sales pace of 17.8 million and April’s 17.3 million.
Sales volume in May is expected to rise 3.2% from last year and 2.5% from last month, assisted by one additional selling day, according to Cox.
