Ex-Trump advisor calls for seizure of US senator’s passport

Steve Bannon has accused Lindsey Graham of “stirring up” the Ukraine conflict by falsely promising US support to Kiev

US Senator Lindsey Graham should be thrown in jail or have his passport revoked for “stirring up” the Ukraine conflict, former adviser to President Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, has said.

Bannon made the comment after Graham, along with US Senator Richard Blumenthal, visited Kiev last week. There they met with Vladimir Zelensky and discussed, among other things, additional sanctions on Russia and further cooperation between Ukraine and the US.

Immediately after the visit Kiev launched mass drone attacks on multiple Russian airfields, claiming to have damaged over 40 warplanes, including strategic bombers. Moscow has not confirmed the loss of any aircraft and claims to have shot down most of the drones.

Bannon and other criticsof US involvement in the Ukraine conflict have since speculated that Grahammay have encouraged Zelensky to launch the “audacious” attack, which they claim could have led to a serious escalation, given that it targeted Russia’s strategic aviation.

Speaking to NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo on Monday,Bannon claimed that by meeting with Zelensky, Graham was giving Ukraine “false hope false hope that we’re there to support them in engaging Russia in a kinetic conflict.

“We are not,” Bannon stressed, adding that the US was getting “sucked” into the Ukraine conflict by people like Graham and could soon find it “tough” to get out.

“We can’t have Lindsey Graham, and particularly Zelensky, leading us into a third world war with a deep strike into Russia,”Bannon insisted, suggesting that US authorities should either “cancel [Graham’s] passport and don’t let him back in the country, or put him in jail if he comes back.”

Following Monday’s attack, which targeted sites from Murmansk in the Arctic to Irkutsk in Siberia, a number of military experts pointed out that Kiev does not have the technical capability to conduct drone strikes that deep into Russian territory.

Guillaume Ancel, a writer and former French army lieutenant colonel, told Le Monde that theattack is “possible and conceivable only with the support of a powerful satellite communications system,” based on intelligence provided by the US.

Throughout the Ukraine conflict, Moscow has repeatedly described the hostilities as a Western proxy war against Russia and has condemned foreign military assistance to Kiev as counterproductive to the peace process.

Trump says he spoke to Putin about Ukrainian attacks

The US president has described the phone call as “a good conversation”

US President Donald Trump has said he held a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Wednesday to discuss the Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian airbases.

Ukrainian drones hit multiple Russian airbases on Monday in a coordinated assault. Targets ranged from Murmansk in the Arctic to Irkutsk in Siberia. Kiev claims the strikes damaged or destroyed approximately 40 Russian military aircraft, including Tu-95 and Tu-22 long-range bombers. Moscow has not verified these claims, stating that most of the incoming drones were intercepted.

Reports suggest the attack was executed using explosive-laden drones launched from commercial trucks that had been covertly brought into Russian territory.

Trump made the announcement in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, writing that the call with Putin lasted more than an hour, describing it as “a good conversation.”

“We discussed the attack on Russia’s docked airplanes, by Ukraine, and also various other attacks that have been taking place by both sides,” he wrote, noting, however, it was “not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace.”

Trump added that theRussian president “did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields.”

Moscow has confirmed the Trump-Putin phone call. Yury Ushakov, the top foreign policy adviser to the Russian president, told a press briefing on Wednesday thatthe two leaders agreed to continue contacts on Ukraine, including at the highest level and through other channels. According to Ushakov,Putin informed Trump that Kiev had tried to sabotage the direct Russia-Ukraine talks – the second round of which was held in Istanbul on Monday– by launching targeted strikes on Russian civilian sites under direct orders from the Ukrainian leadership.

Putin on Wednesday called the railway sabotage in Russia’s Bryansk and Kursk Regions “undoubtedly a terrorist act” by the “illegitimate regime in Kiev,” which, he said, “is gradually turning into a terrorist organization.”(Terrorist attacks can be compared to 911 that Putin warned Bush about, but it will be especially intense retaliation, so don’t be surprised. I kinda hope Pompeo is picked up since he’s in Odessa)

(The Russians have been saying that people and Kive are lying to Trump for more than a week, well it turns out his own gov DS were lying to him about Russia indiscriminately attacking Ukraine, it was always about retaliation. So they probably worked that out.)

@realDonaldTrump

I just finished speaking, by telephone, with President Vladimir Putin, of Russia. The call lasted approximately one hour and 15 minutes. We discussed the attack on Russia’s docked airplanes, by Ukraine, and also various other attacks that have been taking place by both sides. It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace. President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields. We also discussed Iran, and the fact that time is running out on Iran’s decision pertaining to nuclear weapons, which must be made quickly! I stated to President Putin that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and, on this, I believe that we were in agreement. President Putin suggested that he will participate in the discussions with Iran and that he could, perhaps, be helpful in getting this brought to a rapid conclusion. It is my opinion that Iran has been slowwalking their decision on this very important matter, and we will need a definitive answer in a very short period of time!

Foreign-made explosives used in railway terrorist attacks – Russian prosecutors

Ukrainian intelligence planned the explosions which led to the deaths of seven civilians, the chair of Russia’s investigative committee has said

Explosives used to blow up two railway bridges in Russia over the weekend were foreign-made, the head of Russia’s Investigative Committee Aleksandr Bastrykin has announced. The attack, which claimed the lives of seven civilians, was organized by Ukrainian intelligence, he added.

Speaking at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and government officials on Wednesday, Bastrykin said that the “evidence collected by the investigators directly points to [the fact] that all three terrorist attacks [in Bryansk and Kursk regions] were beyond any doubt arranged by Ukrainian special services.”

According to Bastrykin, the bombs used in the attacks“were composed of foreign-made plastic explosives equivalent to 15kg of TNT,” and set off by a Ukrainian-made detonator.

He added that the probe into the blasts is still underway, with the authorities working to identify all those responsible.

Bastrykin reported that between May 20 and May 25, Russian security services were conducting an operation in Bryansk Region against a group of Ukrainian saboteurs. He revealed that during the raid, the authorities uncovered a cache containing 13kg of similar plastic explosives and Ukrainian-made remote detonators.

The official estimated the material damage caused by the explosions at over 1 billion rubles ($13mn).

On Saturday evening, debris from a bombed bridge fell in front of, and derailed, an inter-city passenger train in the Bryansk Region. Seven people were killed and over one hundred seriously injured in the crash.

Early on Sunday, a railway bridge was blown up as a freight train passed over it in neighboring Kursk Region, wounding the driver and two assistants.

Later on Sunday, a stretch of railroad in a different part of Bryansk Region was damaged when a bomb went off in front of a switcher locomotive. No casualties have been reported from the third incident.

The attacks were carried out the day before the second round of direct Russia-Ukraine talks in Istanbul. While no breakthroughs were achieved in Türkiye, the two sides agreed to conduct a prisoner swap as well as to exchange the bodies of thousands of fallen soldiers.

Russia and Ukraine also exchanged memorandums containing drastically different visions for ending the conflict. Both sides have indicated that dialogue would continue.

This Putin picture says it all

‘Illegitimate Kiev regime’ turning into terrorist organization – Putin

The latest terrorist acts carried out by Ukraine in Russia are the outcome of decisions made by the political leadership, the president has said

Facing heavy battlefield losses, the “illegitimate Kiev regime” has resorted to organizing terrorist attacks to try to intimidate Russia, President Vladimir Putin has said.

The recent acts of railway sabotage in Russia’s Bryansk and Kursk Regions were “undoubtedly a terrorist act,” Putin said. He added that“the decisions to carry out such crimes were, of course, made in Ukraine” by the political leadership.

“The strike on the civilian population was intentional,” Putin said. “And this only confirms our concern that the already illegitimate regime in Kiev, which once seized power,is gradually turning into a terrorist organization, and its sponsors are becoming accomplices to terrorists.”

The president accused Ukraine and its Western backers of having sought a strategic defeat of Russia on the battlefield. Now, he said,Kiev is shifting tactics amid mounting losses and setbacks along the front line.

“Today, amid heavy losses and retreating along the entire line of contact, the Kiev leadership has turned to organizing terrorist acts in an attempt to intimidate Russia,” Putin said.

Despite this, he added, Ukrainian officials are requesting a pause in the fighting and proposing meetings at the highest level. “But how can such meetings be held under these conditions?” Putin said. “What is there to talk about? Who conducts negotiations with those who rely on terror – with terrorists?”

The Russian leader emphasized that “power, for the [Kiev] regime, is apparently more important than peace, more important than human lives.”

The two train sabotage incidents took place on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. In the first, a bridge fell in front of a moving passenger train in Bryansk Region. The second incident took place in Kursk Region, when a railway bridge collapsed under a moving freight train. In total, seven people died and 113 were injured.

Both attacks came shortly before the second round of Russia-Ukraine talks in Istanbul and amid a surge in Kiev’s drone raids into Russia, which Moscow says are aimed at derailing the peace process.

NATO summit to avoid Ukraine membership issue – AFP

The bloc’s members are concerned that the topic could lead to a public rift between the EU and US, the agency’s sources have said (there’s already a rift and it will get larger, Hegseth is not attending it, the first time in history the U.S. was not represented)

NATO leaders convening for a key summit this monthwill deliberately avoid discussing membership for Ukraine, AFP reported on Wednesday, citing sources. The bloc’s members are reportedly wary of raising the issue due to fears it could exacerbate tensions between the EU and US.

Members of the US-led military bloc are highly likely to “steer clear of its previous strong statements that Ukraine is on course to join the alliance” when the summit takes place in The Hague in late June, the agency said.

One diplomatic source told AFP that thefinal declaration is expected to omit any mention of Ukrainian membershipto maintain unity among member states. “There will be nothing on that,” a NATO diplomat said. “My expectation is we will be absolutely silent.”

US President Donald Trump has expressed firm opposition to Ukraine’s bid to join NATO. In February, he suggested that Ukraine “can forget about NATO,” addingthat Kiev’s bid was “probably the reason the whole thing started,”referring to the conflict with Russia.

Ukrainian leader VladimirZelensky is still expected to be presentat the summit, but any formal talks between the bloc and Kiev are unlikely, AFP said. “It will be a PR disaster if he’s not there,” another diplomat told the agency. (Trump opposed his presence and Rutte did it anyway)

While NATO Secretary-General MarkRutte has insisted that Ukraine remains a priority issue at the summit, AFP sources have painted a different picture. They suggested that the overwhelming emphasis will be on trying to satisfy Trump’s demands that member states drastically ramp up their defense spending. It “is the most important part and no one wants to jeopardize that,” the agency’s source said.

Russia has stated that NATO membership for Ukraine is a red line and one of the key reasons for the conflict, insisting that Ukraine adopt a neutral status as a key condition for a lasting peace.

While Trump administration officials have described =NATO membership as “a bridge too far,” Kiev has refused to commit to neutrality or to refraining from hosting foreign troops on its soil==, which Moscow also considers to be a red line. (What that says if Ukraine gets into NATO from day one they will be at major war with Russia. These Europeans are stupid and greedy)

Ukraine would ‘suck up every euro’ as EU member – Hungary

Brussels is pushing Kiev’s bid despite the costs, Prime Minister Viktor Orban has warned

Ukraine would be a huge drain on EU resources if it became a member of the bloc, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has warned. He accused officials in Brussels of attempting to force the issue despite the cost.

Orban, a long-standing opponent of fast-tracking Kiev’s membership bid, launched a nationwide consultation in April asking Hungarians whether they wanted Ukraine to join the bloc.

“For Brussels, Ukrainian accession is a vital issue: political damage control and good business in the midst of a losing war,” Orban wrote on Tuesday on Facebook, encouraging citizens to take part in the poll.

”But this business is going to cost European families,”he added. “Ukraine would suck up every euro, forint and zloty that we have spent on strengthening European families, European farmers and European industry.”

Orban saidhe would “protect Hungary and the European Union from the Brussels fever dream of Ukrainian accession.”

Ukraine declared joining the EU and NATO as strategic objectives following the 2014 Western-backed armed uprising in Kiev. Both blocs have publicly supported the efforts. The EU granted Ukraine candidate status in June 2022 after the escalation of its conflict with Russia earlier that year. Critics contend that the decision downplayed concerns about corruption and rule-of-law deficiencies in favor of sending a symbolic political message.

Russia has identified Ukraine’s NATO ambitions as a key driver of the current hostilities.Russian officials also claim that the EU has evolved from an economic alliance into a military body comparable to the US-led NATO, which they view as a direct threat.

EU leaders have been exploring ways to bypassHungary’s veto power on foreign policy decisions, including support for Ukraine. One reported proposal involves replacing unanimous decision-making with qualified majority voting. Other options described in the media include legally redefining actions such as weapons transfers to Kiev and sanctions on Russia as matters not requiring full consensus.

State Department seeks to create "Office of Remigration" in restructuring

Russell Contreras , Marc Caputo

The State Department plans to create an "Office of Remigration" in a sweeping reorganizationdrive tied to the Trump administration's efforts to deport millions of immigrants, a department official told Axios Thursday.

The big picture: The proposed new office would signal the State Department's shift from helping refugees to removing immigrants, even as it employs the term "remigration" — a concept that critics say has a troubled history in Europe, where it's used by far-right groups. (Who cares what Europe thinks, it sounds good)

Driving the news: The State Department on Thursday announced a proposed overhaul that would cut various programs and staff.

• The Office of Remigration would be part of the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, a State Department official said.

• The proposal calls for aneven deeper cut to domestic staffing than the 15% reductionthat was floated in April.

• The department alsointends to eliminate several divisionsoverseeing America's 20-year presence in Afghanistan, including an office responsible for resettling Afghan allies who supported U.S. military operations.

Context: In Europe, the concept of remigration calls for the mass deportation or coerced repatriation of non-white immigrants and their European-born descendants.

• It's a term that's been used by far-right politicians, such as Austria's Herbert Kickl and Germany's Alternative for Germany (AfD) party leader, Alice Weidel.

• Liberal and moderate critics in Europe say "remigration" has historically been used as a euphemism for ethnic cleansing. The term was popularized by Martin Sellner, a millennial influencer of Europe's far-right.

Yes, but: "The way that it worked before, Population Refugee Migration was basicallyan entire bureau dedicated to bringing people into the United States," said the State Department official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

• "It had the migration function — it's in the name —we're just reversing the flowof migrants who shouldn't be here to go out of the country."

Zoom in:A more detailed proposal sent to Congress proposes prioritizing migration and border issues over refugee resettlement.

• The Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration's "existing migration functions will be consolidated into three new functional offices under a (Deputy Assistant Secretary of State) forMigration Matters."

• "Reflecting core administration priorities, these offices will be substantially reorganized toshift focus towards supportingthe Administration's efforts to return illegal aliens to their country of origin or legal status," the document said.

• The Office of Remigration would be one of these new "functional offices" and is described as a "hub for immigration issues and repatriation tracking."

What they're saying: "Over the past quarter century, the domestic operations of the State Department have grown exponentially, resulting in more bureaucracy, higher costs, and fewer results for the American people," Rubio said in a statement.

• "The reorganization plan will result in a more agile department, better equipped to promote America's interests and keep Americans safe across the world."

• Rubio didn't mention the Office of Remigration in his statement, and the office is not listed on a new chart on the department's website.

Zoom out:The Trump administration has faced court challenges in attempts to remove immigrants from the U.S. without due process.

• It has deported several immigrants to a notorious prison in El Salvador and refused to bring back at least one man after acknowledging he was removed from the U.S. in error.

Confirmation process begins for Trump’s first judicial nominees

The Trump administration has fewer vacancies to fill this time around but still wants to put a conservative tilt on the federal bench.

HAILEY FUCHS 06/04/2025,

The Senate Judiciary Committee is launching the confirmation process for the first judicial nominations of President Donald Trump’s second term.

The panel Wednesday morning opened a hearing for Whitney D. Hermandorfer, Trump’s nominee for the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and four other district court judges in Missouri: Maria A. Lanahan, Cristian M. Stevens and Zachary M. Bluestone for the Eastern District, and Joshua M. Divine for the Eastern and Western Districts.

It is a continuation of a major priority of Trump’s first term: applying a conservative slant across the federal bench. The Senate confirmed hundreds of judges the last time Trump was in office, rewriting the rules around judicial nominations in the process. The Biden administration also confirmed hundreds of judges, leaving relatively few vacancies for Trump to fill upon his return to the White House in January. According to data from the U.S. courts, there are currently about 49 existing vacancies.

Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), in opening remarks, reminded his colleagues that some judicial nominees during the Biden era received bipartisan support, even though many were controversial to Republicans.

“Elections, as we all know, have consequences … I worry that partisanship will hamper these efforts,” said Grassley, appearing to take a swipe at ranking member Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who recently suggested he could seek to block swift consideration of future U.S. attorney nominees.

Durbin defended his threats by pointing to similar tactics deployed by Vice President JD Vance when he was a Republican senator from Ohio, during which time he moved to slow-walk confirmation of former President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees.

The two committee leaders also sparred Wednesday over the Trump administration’s decision to stymie the American Bar Association’s influence on the judicial selection process, which stipulates that the nominees will no longer respond to the ABA’s questionnaire or conduct interviews with the organization prior to confirmation.

Durbin argued the administration’s decision could prevent senators from knowing whether the nominees are qualified for their roles. Grassley maintained that the ABA could still send letters to the committee, like other organizations, but criticized the group as a “partisan progressive organization.”

Circuit courts have enormous influence, with judges there often having the last word in cases not taken up by the Supreme Court. =The Sixth Circuit seat specifically== is one of only a handful of appeals court vacancies that Trump can populate. To this end, Hermandorfer is being subject to significant scrutiny.

A graduate of George Washington University Law School, Hermandorfer is the current director of the strategic litigation unit for the Tennessee Attorney General. She previously clerked for Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito and Amy Coney Barrett, as well as for Justice Brett Kavanaugh when he was still a D.C. Circuit Court judge.

Republican senators praised Hermandorfer’s credentials, though Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware suggested the nominee lacked the experience typically seen in lawyers proposed for federal appellate judgeships.

“I am concerned about the striking brevity of your professional record,” said Coons. “You graduated from law school just a decade ago,” said Coons.

Under further examination by Coons, Hermandorferacknowledged she has never been lead counsel in a federal jury trial, questioned a witness on the stand or conducted a deposition. “As an appellate lawyer, that’s really not part of my practice,” Hermandorfer said.

She also conceded that while she has beeninvolved in over 100 appellate cases, she has only argued four cases before federal appeals courtsand has never presented oral argument at the Supreme Court.

Toward the end of the hearing,Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) asked Hermandorfer whether there were any circumstances under which she would advise a client to violate a federal court order.

Hermandorfer declined to answer the question with a yes or no answer, saying there may be extraordinary situations, to which Kennedy repeatedly interjected, “Like what?” (She just eliminated herself)

“I’d be real careful there,” Kennedy said.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), who was at this point running the proceedings in Grassley’s absence, quickly interrupted and ended the exchange.
