Federal judge rules in favor of Trump administration on Texas illegal immigrant tuition law

A federal judge ruled in favor of the Trump administration regarding a law that allowed illegal immigrant students to pay reduced in-state tuition.

The law was passed in 2001 to allow young adults in the United States illegally to pay reduced in-state tuition if they met specific residency criteria. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton challenged the law in a joint lawsuit with the Trump administration, citing President Donald Trump’s executive orders looking to crack down on illegal immigration. U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor quickly ruled in favor of the lawsuit, saying the law violated the supremacy clause and was “unconstitutional and invalid.”
