Reform UK chairman Zia Yusuf resigns as civil war in party deepens

Reform chairman Zia Yusuf has quit after a row with the partyโ€™s newest MP

Reform UK have been hit by further chaos after the man brought in by Nigel Farage to professionalise the party quit after a row with their newest MP.

Zia Yusuf, a Muslim businessman, had described new Runcorn MP Sarah Pochin as โ€œdumbโ€ after she challenged Keir Starmer over the legality of women wearing the burqa in the UK during PMQs on Wednesday.

After fury broke out about his comment Mr Yusuf, who has been a target of anger by many activists over several months, announced he has quit.

He said: โ€œ11 months ago I became Chairman of Reform. Iโ€™ve worked full time as a volunteer to take the party from 14 to 30%, quadrupled its membership and delivered historic electoral results.

โ€œI no longer believe working to get a Reform government elected is a good use of my time, and hereby resign the office.โ€

Summary

Three others named in safeguarding report face no further action

All ten cases were independently reviewed - Church statement

Safeguarding crisis forced out Archbishop Justin Welby in 2024

LONDON, June 5 (Reuters) - Seven Church of England priests, including a former senior bishop, will face disciplinary proceedings over safeguarding failures in the first such move since Archbishop Justin Welby was forced to stand down last year over a child abuse scandal.

Former Archbishop George Carey, who was in February named in a list of 10 historic cases that would be considered by an independent judicial process, would not face any further action, the Church also said in an update published on Thursday.
