I don't understand what really made both of them blow up like that, Congress is well known to pass bloated piles of shit every year and Elon is right in his criticism. Trump was right we shouldn't be subsidizing EVs though either. In a true free market capitalist country the government does not subsidize companies that make products consumers choose to buy anyway…. they only subsidize companies that provide public infrastructure. The fact that Congress and the government determine winners and losers is not capitalism, it's socialism. Thus, with every other socialist country, there is a whole lot of bloat and waste. Trump should realize this and should have agreed with Elon in many cases. Elon also should realize that if we want free market capitalism then there is no EV mandate or subsidies because consumers get the final say not the government.
