it is a peak cope, they do not know if Trump is involved in a bad way and they desperately need him not to be. While there a things that point to him not being involved, the same flight logs used to try and convict their enemies on social media point to Trump and they have been explaining that away for years. Reality is no one knows and they hooked their wagon to someone whose personal morality leaves something to be desired.
For the sake of the country I hope it is not true, but if it is he should have to take his medicine along with everyone else.
More likely out come is that the whole thing gets classified for generations for national security reasons and by the time it is declassified the damage to the country will have amplified ten fold.
