As stated, I agree completely with your talk about pornography and what agenda is behind it.

I just don't agree that anime has anything to do with the shit you're talking about. I've watched 300 seasons of anime, I should know! Anime is fun and entertaining, and a lot less negative than Western media, which is why I love it. It's a fresh breeze for a Westerner, really!

Anime does like to give girls strong sex appeal visually, at least sometimes. This varies a lot from show to show. Many shows are so clean they're almost prude, and most who do show sexuality do so with a very innocent attitude. The standard way sexuality is treated in anime, is as an embarrassment. It's all about how awkward it feels to be aroused.

Japs are all about not losing face, and losing control over their sexuality is something they fear. Anime plays on this fear by emphasizing the awkwardness of human sexuality. For instance, a lot of anime features "lolis" (young girls) who end up in borderline compromising situations with the protagonist.

But I have NEVER seen one where the protagonist was a pedophile and actually did anything sexual with the girl! The only function for the "loli" is to be a source of EMBARRASSMENT - "what if people see me with this little girl clinging to me, what are they going to think?!!"

In short, it's about the fear of being seen as a pedo when you're not. It's not about "promoting pedophilia", it's about the Japanese fear of quick social judgement based on misunderstandings. Japan is super strict with its social rules, so this fear is tangible to them, and their media delves into it a lot, because they have a great need to process it.

That said, most anime is just colorful entertainment. Nothing more, nothing less.

In short, watch some anime before you start criticizing it! A good one to start with is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. No sex, just a great story with fantastic emotional investment. Then you can watch Cowboy Bebop, superb action comedy in a gritty sci-fi setting.
