A bank connected to leftwing billionaire Tom Steyer is giving loans to illegal immigrants using a financial loophole—claiming it’s a way to fight “systemic racism", according to the Daily Wire.

Beneficial State Bank, based in Oakland, California, offers loans to immigrants without legal status by using Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) instead of Social Security numbers.

The bank says this is part of its mission to promote fairness. “Beneficial State Bank is committed to addressing financial inequalities that disproportionately affect communities of color, a result of centuries of systemic racism,” the bank said in its 2022 impact report.

“A key initiative is lending to immigrant customers who may not have Social Security numbers but possess Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers.” In 2022, it issued $25 million in auto loans to 707 ITIN borrowers.

Bucks County Sheriff Fred Harran is facing legal action for his partnership with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Harran applied to take part in a federal program known as 287(g), which would give officers the authority to detain illegal immigrants while performing routine police duties. But, the American Civil Liberties Union and Community Justice Project says what he's doing is illegal in Pennsylvania.

Steve Loney, the lead attorney representing the ACLU, said, "The sheriff is breaking the law by unilaterally and illegally over the objection of his county commissioners entered into an agreement with federal immigration enforcement to essentially appoint deputies at the sheriff's office as ICE agents, as immigration agents at the county's expense."

Loney said the Pennsylvania Constitution is very clear, and Sheriff Harran is not following it.

"Under both the Pennsylvania Constitution and applicable statute, any agreement between a county or its agents and the federal government has to be approved by the elected commissioners of that county," said Loney.

According to Loney, the Bucks County Commissioner has gone as far as passing a resolution to stop him, but it hasn't, so the lawsuit was filed.

"We also filed a motion for a preliminary injunction of the court as an expedited step to issue an order stopping the sheriff's office from implementing this agreement before the final outcome of the case," said Loney.

But, back in April when we first talked to Sheriff Harran, he said he's simply using a tool from the federal government to keep people safe.

He told 69 News back then, "It's only people that have prior criminal warrants in Bucks County. When those people come in our contact, we're also going to run them through the ICE database."
