USNORTHCOM statement regarding protection of federal property and personnel in the Los Angeles Area

PETERSON SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. – By direction of Secretary of Defense and in coordination with U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), approximately 2,000 California Army National Guard soldiers have been placed under federal command and control in a Title 10 status to support the protection of federal personnel and federal property in the greater Los Angeles area.

As USNORTHCOM’s land component command, U.S. Army North stood up Task Force 51, with a two-star general, as the ground command and control element over the Title 10 forces. At this time, there are approximately 300 members of the California Army National Guard’s 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team deployed at the following locations in the greater Los Angeles area: Los Angeles, Paramount, and Compton, California.

Additionally, approximately 500 Marines from 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines at Twentynine Palms, California, are in a prepared to deploy status should they be necessary to augment and support the DoD’s protection of federal property and personnel efforts.

USNORTHCOM will provide more information as units are identified and deployed.

Mike Lee Proposes Constitutional Amendment to Oust Congress When Deficit is Too High

Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) has proposed a constitutional amendment that would make all members of Congress ineligible to run for reelection “whenever inflation exceeds 3%” or when the deficit exceeds 3% of gross domestic product (GDP).

The proposal revives an idea first suggested by Warren Buffett more than 10 years ago in which Buffett suggested he could “end the deficit in five minutes” by disqualifying lawmakers based on the nation’s economic health.

In a post on X, Lee wrote, “It’s better to disqualify politicians than for an entire nation to suffer under the yoke of inflation.”

Lee is among a handful of GOP Senators who have pushed back on the President Trump’s tax reconciliation and spending cuts package as it’s currently written, arguing that the measure doesn’t go far enough to reduce the national deficit.

Lee added, “Federal spending has become excessive. The resulting inflation harms Americans and weaponizes government. The Senate can make this bill better. It must now do so.”

The practicality of removing all members of Congress from office at once remains in question, as does the likelihood of how much support would be found among current lawmakers.

The House of Representatives recently passed President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” (OBBB) which now awaits the Senate’s review and possible revision.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent defended the Congressional spending bill, saying, “We have to bring this down gradually because we want to do two things. We want to cut and constrain spending and we want to grow the economy.”

Israeli Forces Board Gaza Aid Flotilla Boat

Drones dropped a white paint-like substance on the Madleen before the boarding

The Madleen, a sailboat that’s trying to break Israel’s starvation blockade on Gaza, has been boarded by Israeli forces, according to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), the group behind the humanitarian effort.

“Connection has been lost on the ‘Madleen’. Israeli army have boarded the vessel,” the FFC wrote on Telegram.

Francesca Albanese, a UN Special Rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territories, was in touch with the crew before they lost communications and said that the boat was being circled by Israeli speedboats and quadcopter drones that dropped a white paint-like substance on the Madleen.

“The Madleen is currently under assault in international waters. Quadcopters are surrounding the ship, spraying it with a white irritant substance. Communications are jammed, and disturbing sounds are being played over the radio,” the FFC said before the boarding.

Earlier in the day, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the IDF to intercept the Madleen. The boat is carrying 12 civilian activists who are traveling unarmed, including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, who Katz labeled “antisemitic” due to her opposition to Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza.

“I have instructed the IDF to act to ensure that the hate flotilla ‘Madleen’ does not reach the shores of Gaza—and to take all necessary measures to achieve this,” Katz wrote on X.

“To the antisemitic Greta and her friends, propagators of Hamas propaganda, I say clearly: You’d better turn back—because you won’t reach Gaza. Israel will act against any attempt to break the blockade or assist terrorist organizations—by sea, air, or land,” Katz added.

A senior Israeli official told Israel’s Channel 12 that if the boat doesn’t turn around, it will be boarded by Israeli Navy commandos and brought to the port of Ashdod.

“We are surrounding Gaza from every direction in order to strangle Hamas and not enable [Gaza] to get any aid from any factor that is not overseen by Israel. If we allow one flotilla to enter, masses will follow, and this provocation will create a wave of flotillas that are hostile to Israel. We will not let this happen,” the official said.

Back in 2010, Israeli commandos raided six Freedom Flotilla boats that were attempting to break the blockade on Gaza and killed 10 Turkish activists. Just last month, an Israeli drone hit a Freedom Flotilla boat, the Conscience, when it was off the coast of Malta.

Israel supporters in the US have suggested Israel should sink the Madleen, including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). “Hope Greta and her friends can swim!” Graham said in a post on X.

Disgraced 80s star surfaces for rare public event 22 years after child porn scandal

Jeffrey Jones made a rare public appearance on Friday, more than 20 years after a child porn scandal upended his professional and personal life.

The actor, who worked with Matthew Broderick, Jennifer Grey and Mia Sara in the 1986 cult classic Ferris Bueller's Day Off, was reunited with some of the film's cast members for a panel discussion at The Hollywood Show.

Jones, 78, played high school principal Ed Rooney, whose efforts to catch Ferris skipping school were foiled by the charismatic teen at every turn.

When discussing life after the film, Jones told the audience he had left Los Angeles, without going into detail as to why.

'I moved to live in the desert. I didn't want to be in L.A. anymore, but I got my family here, and so little kids get old fast. I'm driving back and forth,' he said.

The Beetlejuice actor, whose character was killed off as part of the plot of last year's long-awaited sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, was last seen in 2019's Deadwood: The Movie revealed, 'I'm getting a place now in L.A. I've given up because I can't keep going back and forth from Burbank to the desert.'

Jones was arrested in 2002 on charges of soliciting a minor for nude photos and possession of child pornography.

'I am sorry that this incident was allowed to occur. Such an event has never happened before and it will never happen again,' he told reporters following his sentencing.

In 2004, he was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender when he moved to Sarasota, FL, and again in 2010 for failing to register when he moved back to Los Angeles. He plead guilty and was sentenced to 250 hours of community service and three years probation.
