In the case of Google, at least, they were venture capital funded beginning in 1999, as well as funded through providing search services for big entities like AOL at that time. The compromise came with their hiring of Eric Schmidt, and the company's early association with Al Gore. The real dirt on them begins with the Hussein administration.
If there is tax payer/DARPA et al funding, then you need to dig on those well known Silicon Valley venture capital firms, or state other sources not identified (or clear to me) just yet.
