Musk’s father praises Putin as ‘impressive and resilient man’

Errol Musk has said he would like to learn leadership from the Russian president

Errol Musk, a South African businessman and the father of tech billionaire Elon Musk, has praised Russian President Vladimir Putin as “a very impressive and resilient man” and said he would like to learn from his leadership.

The 79-year-old made the remarks on Monday in Moscow, on the sidelines of the Forum of the Future 2050, a two-day event that brought together international participants to discuss high technology, science, space, development, and education.

“I think he [Putin] is a very impressive and resilient man. He has proven that,” Musk told journalists. He did not respond to a question about whether he planned to meet with the Russian president.

The remark echoed comments Musk made in April during an interview with the BBC, when he said he believed his family was “impressed” with the Russian leader. He added that he had listened to Putin’s speeches and found that the Russian president said “logical things.”

Addressing the forum, Musk said it was his first visit to Russia and that he accepted the invitation to attend without hesitation, despite being advised not to travel to the country.

“The first thing I saw was an absolutely beautiful civilization in every sense,” he said, noting that he generally takes a critical view of most things.

“I saw a city that could truly rival Ancient Rome… In many ways, this city is the best capital in the world,” he added, drawing applause from the audience.

The businessman also criticized the Western media’s portrayal of Russia, which he described as “complete nonsense.” He said the country is often depicted as “a terrible place full of awful people who will kill you if you visit.”

“It’s absurd,” he said, urging an end to the negative stereotypes being spread in the West about Russia and its people.

“I think this may be one of the best countries I’ve ever seen,” Musk said.

(Does Errol Musk even look a little like Elon? Is he trying to help or hurt Elon, Errol sounds very strange, in a number of ways. It's not like the radicals will like him for this opinion.)

Musk’s father says Tesla tycoon admires Putin

Errol Musk says his family looks up to the Russian leader for his calm leadership and logical speeches

Errol Musk has said that his son Elon and their family admire Russian President Vladimir Putin. Speaking to the BBC, the billionaire’s father described the Russian head of state as a “strong leader” and praised his “logical” speeches.

Musk, who is CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, also leads the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) overseeing US President Donald Trump's efforts to streamline government operations and cut inefficiencies.

The elder Musk said that he believed his family was “impressed” with the Russian leader. “It would be foolish not to admire him because he is always calm,” he added. Musk went on to say that he listens to Putin’s speeches, and believes he says “logical things,” while noting that his views were based on personal observation and not political alignment.

“If you evaluate him as a man to a man, I’m not talking about relations between countries and the like… he is a strong leader for me,” he said.

When the interviewer claimed that Putin “had started the war in Ukraine,” Errol Musk pushed back, saying that it would only become clear over time who had truly started the conflict.

He nevertheless defended his son’s stance. “What he did when the war began, he immediately gave Starlink to Ukraine,” he said. “But this war doesn’t end, it goes on and on.”

The Tesla CEO has emphasized the network’s critical role in Ukraine’s defense, asserting that the “entire front line would collapse” without it.

However, he has expressed concerns that continued Western support for Ukraine could escalate the conflict into a broader global clash, possibly even World War III. He has consistently advocated for a diplomatic resolution rather than prolonged military engagement.

Elon’s father quoted him as recently calling the ongoing struggle “the biggest corruption machine in the history of mankind.” Elon Musk’s views have provoked criticism from Kiev and its supporters, particularly his suggestions that peace negotiations might require Ukraine to cede territory, a stance the country’s government sees as appeasing Russia.

More recently, Musk stirred a further backlash by claiming that Vladimir Zelensky is “despised by the Ukrainian people,” echoing critical sentiments previously voiced by Donald Trump.
