CALIFORNIA – About 700 U.S. Marines were mobilized Monday to support the California National Guard to protect federal personnel and property in Los Angeles during protests there, officials said.

The mobilization of the Marines from their base in Twentynine Palms, California, is temporary, to give time for additional National Guard troops to arrive.

Earlier Monday, President Donald Trump said he would support arresting California Gov. Gavin Newsom for purportedly obstructing federal immigration enforcement actions in Los Angeles.

Trump’s comment came shortly before Newsom and state Attorney General Rob Bonta said they would sue Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for deploying National Guard troops to deal with protests over those enforcement actions.

The suit will ask a judge to rule that Trump’s federalization of the California National Guardwas unlawful and to set aside the president’s order.

Another Chinese Researcher Caught Smuggling Agricultural Bioweapons into Michigan

DETROIT – Chengxuan HAN, a citizen of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), was arrested and charged in a criminal complaint with smuggling goods into the United States and false statements, announced United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon, Jr.

Gorgon was joined in the announcement by Special Agent in Charge Cheyvoryea Gibson, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Detroit Division, Acting Director of Field Operations John Nowak, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Jared Murphey, acting Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Detroit field office.

According to the complaint, Han is a citizen of the PRC who is currently pursuing a Ph.D. fromthe College of Life Science and Technologyin the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Wuhan, PRC.In 2024 and 2025, Han sent four packagesto the United States from the PRCcontaining concealed biological material. These packageswere addressed to individuals associated with a laboratory at the University of Michigan. On June 8, 2025, Han arrived at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport on a J1 visa.

Customs and Border Protection officers conducted an inspection of Han, during which Han made false statements about the packages and the biological materials she had previously shipped to the United States. CBP officers alsofound that the content of Han’s electronic device had been deleted three days prior to her arrival in the United States. At the conclusion of the border inspection, Han was interviewed by agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and ICE HSI. During this interview, Han admitted to sending the packages, admitted that the packages contained biological material related to round worms, and admitted to making false statements to the CBP officers during her inspection.

Kiev’s backers demanded Ukraine conscript 18-year-olds – Zelensky

Lowering the draft age was one condition for tightening sanctions on Russia, the Ukrainian leader has claimed

Some of Kiev’s Western backers demanded that Ukraine lower the age of military conscription to 18 in return for their support for stricter sanctions on Russia, Vladimir Zelensky has claimed.

Manpower shortages in Ukraine’s army have triggered a wave of forced conscription raids across the country which the public is increasingly opposing.

In an interview with Hungarian daily Valasz Online on Tuesday, Zelensky acknowledged that mobilization remains a major issue.

“Mobilization is a problem in every war. Ukraine is no exception… People are tired,” he said, estimating that Kiev can mobilize 27,000 people a month.

Despite his Western backers seeking it, Zelensky has opposed mandatory conscription of 18-year-olds.

“It is not the number of people that matters, but weapons and technology,” he said, adding that the same is true for the scale of Western sanctions against Russia.

At the same time, Western partners list the reasons why they did not decide on sanctions, saying Ukraine has not mobilized from the age of 18,” Zelensky stated.

Kiev attempted to placate the Western countries demanding conscription of 18-year olds.“We provided an opportunity for 18-24 year-olds to show that they too can serve if our partners want them to,” he said. “Thousands are fighting on the front lines without proper weapons,” he said.

Ukraine announced general mobilization in February 2022, barring most men between 18 and 60 from leaving the country. In 2024, faced with mounting losses, the country lowered the conscription age from 27 to 25 and tightened mobilization rules. The forced draft campaign has resulted in numerous violent clashes between recruitment officers and potential conscripts.

Kiev launched a new voluntary military recruitment campaign earlier this year, targeting men aged 18 to 24. Russian Foreign Ministryspokeswoman Maria Zakharova has called the program “a one-way ticket,” suggesting that Ukraine is “annihilating” its youth.

Russian officials have long said that the West is ready to fight Moscow “until the last Ukrainian.”

Media reports have claimed that former-US President Joe Biden’s staff attempted to pressure Kiev to reduce the draft age from 25 to 18.Former-Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned at the time that Ukraine would have to make “hard decisions” on mobilization.

Brussels has suggested a complete transaction ban on the two pipelines as well as lowering the oil price cap on Moscow (I doesn’t matter of European freeze to death)

The European Commission has proposed a ban on the use of Nord Stream gas infrastructure and a reduction of the price cap on Russian oil in its 18th sanctions package against Moscow, EC President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Tuesday.

“No EU operator will be able to engage directly or indirectly in any transaction regarding the Nord Stream pipelines. There is no return to the past,” she stated.

Both pipelines were severely damaged in a series of underwater explosions in the Baltic Sea in September 2022. Since the sabotage, the pipelines have been out of service.

The commission also intends to lower the price cap on Russian crude oil exports from the current $60 per barrel to $45.The cap, which was introduced in December 2022 by the G7, EU, and Australia, aimed to curb Russia’s oil revenue while maintaining global supply.

The new sanctions package also proposes a ban on the import of all refined goods based on Russian crude oil and sanctions on 77 vessels that are allegedly part of Russia’s so-called ‘shadow fleet’, which Brussels claims is used to circumvent oil trade restrictions.

The commission has also suggested expanding theEU sanctions list to include additional Russian banks and implementing a “complete transaction ban” alongside existing restrictions on the use of the SWIFT financial messaging system. The restrictions would also apply to banks in third countries that “finance trade to Russia in circumvention of sanctions,” according to the EC president.

The draft sanctions package will next be put up for discussion among EU members and must be approved by all 27 EU states in order to pass. Previous rounds of sanctions faced resistance from countries such as Hungary and Slovakia, which argue that the restrictions harm the EU economy.

Russia has dismissed the Western sanctions as illegitimate, saying pressure tactics are counterproductive. President Vladimir Putin has said the removal of sanctions is among the conditions for a settlement of the Ukraine conflict.

New wave of strikes reported across Ukraine

Vladimir Zelensky has accused the US of not putting enough pressure on Russia and called for “concrete action”

Russia conducted a new wave of strikes across Ukraine overnight,with Kiev suffering the brunt of the attack, according to local officials. The Russian Defense Ministry has yet to comment on the strikes.

On Tuesday, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine said Kiev and Odessa Region were the most affected, with at least 19 fires reported.

In Kiev, Mayor Vitaly Klitschko reported that facilities in several districts were hit, including two non-residential buildings. He said there were no fatalities, but four people were injured. Later, he added that a fire broke out at a business center in Shevchenkovsky district in the western part of Kiev.Unconfirmed media reports claim that the center once hosted a British visa center.

Russian Telegram channels covering the conflict, however,suggested that this particular strike damaged the Artyom military plant located in the same area,adding that other targetsreportedly included warehouses, energy facilities, and various defense companies.

Timur Tkachenko, the head of the local administration, saidthe attack damaged unidentified warehouses in Obolonsky district in the northwestern part of the capital, and destroyed another business center in the southern Goloseevsky district.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported two deaths and nine injuries in Odessa, adding thatseveral buildings, including an unnamed company, were hit.

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky said the overnight attack involved 315 drones and seven missiles.He criticized the US for what he called a reluctance to put pressure on Russia, saying the attack was “louder than the efforts of the United States and others in the world to force Russia to peace.”

Zelensky went on tourge Washington to respond to the reported attacks. “It is important that the response to this and other similar Russian strikes is not the silence of the world,but concrete actions. Actions by America, which has the power to force Russia to peace.”

(KEK Zelensky is not interested in peace talks, he wants a break to regroup military; plus none of the negotiations were serious from Kiev, he’ll have to beg Washington to get them back to the table. But Trump made it clear Russia will retaliate, apparently with no holds barred. Z cannot pressure or humiliate Trump after what Kiev engaged it. Zelensky lost a lot of support by what he did. Based on the Camp David Principals meetings things are much more serious than Zelensky and Ukraine at this moment. He should now realize Russia was not releasing all their power before, but Putin is unleashed now.)

The recent reported wave of strikes comes after Kiev significantly intensified drone strikes into Russia, which Moscow views as an attempt to derail ongoing peace efforts. Russian officials have also accused Ukraine of orchestrating “terrorist” attacks on railway infrastructure, as well as airbases that host nuclear-capable bombers.

Moscow has stated that its strikes are only aimed at military-related facilities and never target civilians.

Ukraine has lost nearly all US-supplied Abrams tanks – RIA

Russian forces have destroyed 26 of 31 units provided to Kiev, according to the outlet

The Russian military has reportedly destroyed the majority of US-supplied M1 Abrams tanks delivered to Ukraine,with only five of them remaining operational, RIA Novosti has reported, citing its own analysis.

In January 2023, then-US President Joe Biden announced the transfer of 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, with the delivery completed in September that year.Since then, Moscow has consistently targeted the vehicles and has shared numerous videos purporting to show the destruction or capture of the US tanks. In May 2024, one of the vehicles was displayed at the Army-2024 military expo in Moscow, along with other Western-supplied hardware.

According to RIA’s estimates, the Russian military has destroyed a total of 26 Abrams tanks since February 2024, leaving Ukraine’s forces with just five out of 31 of the tanks. The first Abrams was reportedly knocked out on February 26 by the Russian ‘Center’ military group near Avdeevka.

RIA’s latest estimates follow a report from the New York Times in March, which cited Ukrainian officials confirming that 19 of the 31 Abrams tanks had already been destroyed or damaged. The newspaper added thatthe remaining vehicles have been withdrawn from frontline service due to their vulnerability to Russian drone and artillery attacks.

Oryx, a Dutch analyst group which tracks visually confirmed equipment losses,has also claimed that as of late 2024, Ukraine had lost at least 22 Abrams tanks.

Last week, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that two Ukrainian Abrams tanks had been seized during an operation in Ukraine’s Sumy Region.The Defense Ministry released a video showing Russian troops recovering the vehicles, which appeared to be intact. The tanks were reportedly towed to the rear by the 22nd Motor Rifle Regiment after reconnaissance teams secured the area.

After Biden’s initial announcement of Abrams deliveries to Ukraine,US media outlets hailed the tanks as a “game changer” for Kiev, particularly ahead of its failed counteroffensive in 2023.However, by September of that year, Ukraine’s top military spy, Kirill Budanov, admitted that the tanks were unlikely to survive on the battlefield for long.Former US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan later also acknowledged that the Abrams was “not useful”for Ukraine.

Moscow has criticized the Western weapons deliveries to Kiev, saying they only prolong hostilities and lead to more bloodshed without affecting the outcome.
