Trump Says All Army Bases Stripped of Confederate Namesakes Will Have Names Restored

All Army installations that were renamed in recent years to sever ties with the Confederacy will have their original names restored, President Donald Trump announced Tuesday.

"We won a lot of battles out of those forts. It's no time to change, and I'm superstitious – we want to keep it going," Trump told a crowd of uniformed service members during a speech at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Nine Army posts including Fort Benning, Fort Hood and Fort Gordon shed their Confederate names in 2023 following an independent review ordered by Congress. Most were rechristened to honor American war heroes and other legendary figures of Army lore

Fort A.P. Hill, for instance, was renamed after Mary Edwards Walker, a Union Army surgeon and the only woman to receive the Medal of Honor. Fort Moore was named after Vietnam War legend Lt. Gen. Hal Moore and his wife Julia, a prominent advocate for military families.

Fort Liberty was not given a namesake amid infighting between senior Army officials over whether it should be named after a paratrooper or Special Forces soldier.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the base to revert back to Fort Bragg and Fort Moore to return to its previous identity as Fort Benning during the early days of the Trump administration. Both had previously been named after figures who fought with the slaveholding South during the Civil War.

Hegseth and the Pentagon reversed the earlier work of Congress and the military aimed at scrapping names honoring the Confederacy but have sought out names of other service members that match those of the Civil War-era figures as replacements.

Earlier this month, Hegseth also ordered the Navy to strip the name of gay rights icon Harvey Milk, who served as a diving officer on the submarine rescue ship USS Kittiwake during the Korean War, from one of its ships. The service is also reportedly considering renaming other ships, including the USNS Thurgood Marshall, USNS Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and USNS Harriet Tubman.

Below are the new names for Army bases and reasons for the selection, according to the service. Military.com has not verified all of these anecdotes.

Fort Pickett, previously renamed Fort Barfoot, will now recognize 1st Lt. Vernon W. Pickett, a Distinguished Service Cross recipient for heroism in World War II. According to the Army, Pickett destroyed two enemy machine gun nests with grenades while under fire and later escaped from a prisoner-of-war transport train before being killed in action.

Fort Hood, previously Fort Cavazos, will honor Col. Robert B. Hood, an artillery officer who in World War I directed fire amid intense shelling and reorganized his unit under machine-gun fire near Thiaucourt, France.

Fort Gordon, previously renamed Fort Eisenhower, will now commemorate Master Sgt. Gary I. Gordon, the Medal of Honor recipient whose sacrifice during the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu was memorialized in "Black Hawk Down." Gordon volunteered to defend downed pilots and held off overwhelming enemy forces until he ran out of ammunition.

Fort Lee, which was renamed Fort Gregg-Adams, will revert to its name while honoring Pvt. Fitz Lee, a Medal of Honor recipient from the Spanish-American War who rescued wounded service members under direct fire during a coastal assault in Cuba.

Fort Polk, which had carried the name Fort Johnson, will now celebrate Gen. James H. Polk, a Silver Star recipient and former commander of U.S. Army Europe, who led mechanized cavalry operations in World War II.

Fort Rucker, renamed Fort Novosel, will instead honor Capt. Edward W. Rucker, a World War I aviator awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for engaging superior enemy forces deep behind lines in France.

Finally, Fort Anderson-Pinn-Hill, formerly Fort Walker, will now bear the names of three Civil War Medal of Honor recipients: Lt. Col. Edward Hill, 1st Sgt. Robert A. Pinn, and Pvt. Bruce Anderson. Each was recognized for extraordinary heroism in separate engagements supporting the Union Army.

Thomas Massie Introduces Bill To Audit America's Gold Reserves

Rep. Massie submitted a bill—titled the Gold Reserve Transparency Act of 2025—mandating the comptroller general to conduct and publish a full audit of the nation’s gold reserves.

Co-sponsored by Reps. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio), Addison McDowell (R-N.C.), and Troy Nehls (R-Texas), the bill would grant the Government Accountability Office and third-party independent auditors access to any public or private depository where gold reserves and records are stored. This would include deep storage locations such as Fort Knox.

The bill would also require full disclosure of all gold-related transactions, such as leases, loans, sales, and swaps, over the past 50 years.

If the legislation is signed into law, the audit is projected to take up to one year and will be conducted every five years.

“Americans deserve transparency and accountability from the institutions that underpin our currency,” Massie said in a statement.

“In February, President Trump said ‘We’re going to Fort Knox … to make sure the gold is there.’ The Gold Reserve Transparency Act of 2025 will provide the full disclosure President Trump seeks and the American public deserves.”

Gold is also stored at the Denver Mint, West Point Mint, and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Fort Knox is typically at the epicenter of the conversation since it accounts for approximately half of the total U.S. gold reserves. Estimates suggest that out of America’s 261 million troy ounces of gold, Fort Knox holds more than 147 million.

IAEA an 'instrument for Israel,' secret documents seized by Iran reveal

Iranian media says the documents show that Tehran's confidential letters to the IAEA were passed on to Israel

The thousands of sensitive documents on Israel’s nuclear program, which Tehran said its intelligence managed to obtain, reveal direct cooperation between Tel Aviv and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) against Iran, according to an Iranian media report.

“These documents clearly show that instead of playing a neutral role, the IAEA has become an instrument serving the objectives of the Zionist regime,” Fars news agency cited an informed source as saying on 10 June.

The documents prove that “Iran’s official and confidential letters to the IAEA – containing sensitive information – were channeled to the espionage agencies of the Zionist regime through covert conduits,” the report added.

The report also notes that several top Iranian nuclear scientists ended up getting assassinated due to their names being disclosed by the IAEA.

The chief of the UN nuclear watchdog Rafael Grossi said on Monday that “We have seen some reports in the press. We haven’t had any official communication about this.”

“In any case, this seems to refer to Soreq, which is [an Israeli nuclear] research facility which we inspect by the way. We don’t inspect other strategic parts of the program, but this part of the program we do inspect,” he added.

This was the first outside confirmation of Iran’s claim that it seized a vast amount of sensitive Israeli nuclear documents.

Soreq is an Israeli nuclear research facility south of Tel Aviv that was established in 1958.

Under Israel’s agreement with the watchdog, the IAEA monitors Soreq but has zero access to the Israeli nuclear facility at Dimona, which is believed to provide fuel for Tel Aviv’s undeclared nuclear weapons program.

According to a confidential IAEA report on Iran seen by Reuters, the watchdog has “conclusive evidence of highly confidential documents belonging to the Agency having been actively collected and analyzed by Iran.”

“Here, unfortunately, and this dates to a few years ago … we could determine with all clarity that documents that belong to the agency were in the hands of Iranian authorities, which is bad. We believe that an action like this is not compatible with the spirit of cooperation,” Grossi said at a press conference on 10 June.

When asked if these were originally Iranian documents seized by Israel and handed over to the IAEA, Grossi said, “No. We received documents from member states, and also, we have our own assessments on documents, on equipment, etc.”

The Iranian intelligence operation was initially announced in Iranian media on Saturday.

Sources told state broadcaster IRIB that “The sheer volume of the materials and the need to securely transfer the entire shipment into the country necessitated a period of media silence,” adding that the documents have reached “secure locations.”

IRIB said the brief marked a significant setback for Israel.

Judicial Watch Going to Supreme Court on Election Integrity!

Supreme Court Will Hear Judicial Watch Case on Election Law Challenge

We’re going to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court just agreed to hear Judicial Watch’s appeal of the decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in a case filed on behalf of Congressman Mike Bost and two presidential electors challenging an Illinois law extending Election Day for 14 days beyond the date established by federal law (Rep. Michael J. Bost, Laura Pollastrini, and Susan Sweeney v. The Illinois State Board of Elections and Bernadette Matthews (No. 1:22-cv-02754, 23-2644, 24-568)).

The lower courts had denied that Bost had standing to challenge Illinois’ practice of counting ballots received after Election Day. (The Election Day lawsuit was initially filed on May 25, 2022.)

It is an injustice that the courts would deny a federal candidate the ability to challenge an election provision that could lead to illegal votes being cast and counted for two weeks AFTER Election Day. The Supreme Court’s decision to hear this case is a critical opportunity to uphold federal law, protect voter rights, and ensure election integrity. Illinois’ 14-day extension of Election Day thwarts federal law, violates the civil rights of voters, and invites fraud.

Federal law defines Election Day as the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of every even-numbered year. Our complaint states: “Despite Congress’ clear statement regarding a single national Election Day, Illinois has expanded Election Day by extending by 14 days the date for receipt and counting of vote-by-mail ballots.” The Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit recently ruled in another Judicial Watch lawsuit, filed on behalf of the Libertarian Party of Mississippi, that counting ballots received after Election Day is unlawful.

Illinois’ election law allows vote-by-mail ballots received up to 14 days after the polls close on Election Day to be counted as if they were cast and received on or before Election Day. The lawsuit notes that “[e]ven vote-by-mail ballots without postmarks shall be counted if received up to 14 calendar days after Election Day if the ballots are dated on or before Election Day.” A Seventh Circuit panel found that Congressman Bost had no standing to challenge the provision, despite the increased costs and injuries to his federal candidacy caused by the two-week counting of ballots arriving after Election Day.
