San Antonio Mayor Nirenberg [press conference]: I want to acknowledge the anger and frustration that's out there with the federal government's crude interpretations of immigration law, and cruel approach to human rights.

Murray [Hegseth hearing]: You are deploying the American military to police the American people. You are sending the National Guard into California without the governor's request. Sending the Marines, not after foreign threats, but after American protesters. And now President Trump is promising heavy force against peaceful protesters at his DC military parade.

National Guard [press conference]: Our mission is to protect federal agencies, our federal partners, their personnel, as they conduct their federal mission, and even more in particular, as they do the enforcement of federal law. And to also protect all federal assets, federal facilities, that are located in the locations where there have been demonstrations lately.

Major Sherman, National Guard: Strictly for the protection of the federal personnel,and the protection of the federal building, they are allowed to temporarily detain, and wait for law enforcement to come and arrest them. They do not do any arrests. They are strictly there to detain; to wait for law enforcement to come and handle those demonstrations.

Reporter: When will we start to see the Marines on the streets of Los Angeles?

Major Sherman: I can't give you exactly when that will be, but soon. They are doing their training right now…civil disturbance training and the Standing Rules Of Force training…they will not be on the streets today.
