Do AI Models Think?

AI can’t solve a problem that hasn’t been previously solved by a human.

  • Arnaud Bertrand

A lot can be said about AI, but there are few bottom lines. Consider these my last words on the subject itself. (About its misuse by the national security state, I’ll say more later.)

The Monster AI

AI will bring nothing but harm. As I said earlier, AI is not just a disaster for our political health, though yes, it will be that (look for Cadwallader’s line “building a techno-authoritarian surveillance state”). But AI is also a disaster for the climate. It will hasten the collapse by decades as usage expands.

(See the video below for why AI models are massive energy hogs. See this

https://youtu.be/LPZh9BOjkQs

Why won’t AI be stopped? Because the race for AI is not really a race for tech. It's a greed-driven race for money, a lot of it. Our lives are already run by those who seek money, especially those who already have too much. They've now found a way to feed themselves even faster: by convincing people to do simple searches with AI, a gas-guzzling death machine.

For both of these reasons — mass surveillance and climate disaster — no good will come from AI. Not one ounce.

An Orphan Robot, Abandoned to Raise Itself

Why does AI persist in making mistakes? I offer one answer below.

The Trump administration said it would continue its program of raids and deportations despite the protests. "ICE will continue to enforce the law," Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem posted Tuesday on social media.

Protests were reported in the following major U.S. cities:

Austin, TX

Dallas, TX

Denver, CO

Philadelphia, PA

Seattle, WA

Santa Ana, CA

Boston, MA

Washington, D.C.

San Francisco, CA

Professor Sends Email Encouraging Campus To Join LA Protests Against ICE

An English instructor at Glendale Community College recently sent an email encouraging the campus community to join in protests against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The call came as riotous demonstrations in downtown Los Angeles have included destruction of property, looting, arson incidents, and the injury of at least five police officers.

On Sunday, Julie Gamberg, a faculty member at Glendale Community College, sent an email promoting anti-ICE demonstrations organized by the Democratic Socialists of America’s Los Angeles chapter, according to screenshots of the note circulated on X.

“Citizens who know their rights can disrupt and slow ICE incursions,” states a DSA flier Gamberg embedded in her email.

“I wanted to share that Glendale has a contract to hold ICE detainees and there is some mobilizing around Tuesday’s city council meeting,” Gamberg stated in her memo to the community college’s “Issues” email listserv.

She included a link to a Los Angeles Times article headlined: “LA suburb is holding ICE detainees in its jail, sidelining sanctuary rules.”

The email touted plans to fight law enforcement efforts on both Monday and Tuesday of this week, one being a rally in Grand Park in LA against the detainment of a local union leader, and the second targeting the Glendale council meeting.

Trump Says China Deal "Done" With 55% Tariffs On Beijing; Will Work With Xi To Open Up China To US Trade

China and the US have agreed to “a done deal” that includes rare earth exports from China and Chinese students attending colleges in the US, President Trump said on Wednesday, pointing to a potential breakthrough aimed at cooling trade tensions that had been reignited by mutual accusations of deal violations.

“Our deal with China is done, subject to final approval with President Xi and me,” Trump posted on Truth Social, as the negotiating teams from the two countries concluded talks in London from the past two days.

“Full magnets, and any necessary rare earths, will be supplied, up front, by China. Likewise, we will provide to China what was agreed to, including Chinese students using our colleges and universities (which has always been good with me!).

“We are getting a total of 55 per cent tariffs, China is getting 10 per cent. Relationship is excellent! Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

ABC caught using Gaza footage to depict Russian strike on Ukraine

A clip by an affiliate of the broadcaster showed people, including women in hijabs, fleeing in a desert landscape as the anchor spoke about a raid on Kharkov

An affiliate of US broadcaster ABC has aired footage of the chaos in Gaza to report on an alleged Russian strike on the Ukrainian city of Kharkov.

The segment was broadcast last week on ABC’s South Florida affiliate, WPLG Local 10, but only recently captured attention. The outlet reported on an alleged Russian attack on Kharkov, which Ukrainian officials claimed killed at least four people, while the visuals showed glaring inconsistencies.

Instead of showing an Eastern European landscape or heavily urbanized areas, the video showed a large crowd of people, some of whom were women wearing hijabs, scrambling for cover across desert terrain.

The ABC affiliate has made no public comment on the apparent error. The outlet’s YouTube page is missing the report, which has apparently been deleted. However, its verified X account still features the story, accompanied by a screenshot from Gaza, prompting derision from several users.

RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan quipped at the clip, writing: “Oh, never mind. Their audience couldn’t find either place on the map.”

In recent weeks, Moscow has launched attacks on Ukrainian military-linked targets to retaliate for a drastic increase in drone raids and sabotage attempts in Russia. The Russian military insists that its attacks never target civilians.

“Thanks to the investigative work of Data Republican, House Oversight will issue a formal document request to Neville Singham regarding his funding of a communist group linked to the LA riots and the CCP,” Luna wrote on X.

She continued, “IF HE REFUSES TO APPEAR, HE WILL BE SUBPOENAED, AND IF HE IGNORES THAT HE WILL BE REFERRED TO THE DOJ FOR PROSECUTION.”

According to a bombshell report by @DataRepublican, Neville Singham—a tech multimillionaire who resides in Shanghai, China—has funneled over $20 million into U.S.-based far-left organizations via dark money channels like The People’s Forum and No Cold War, both of which are openly pro-Beijing.

The Party for Socialism and Liberation, a Marxist-Leninist group that advocates the complete dismantling of U.S. capitalism, was not only involved in organizing the LA riots but was reportedly responsible for printing signage, providing trained spokespeople, and coordinating demonstrations in other cities, including San Antonio and Oakland.

Even more disturbing, the same Singham-funded network also financed and coordinated pro-Hamas encampments and student uprisings at Columbia University and other elite campuses earlier this year.

Rep. MTG wrote on X, “Is this war on ICE and America being funded by Neville Singham. Is it being funded by China? Was BLM riots funded by China? Is Antifa Communists funded by China? Are the cartels linked? This is an actual war being waged against our country.”

Katy Perry Rages About Illegal Migrants ‘Hunted Like Criminals in Their Own Ancestral Home’

Pop star Katy Perry claimed that illegal migrants are being “hunted like criminals in their ancestral home,” implying that the land of California and Los Angeles belongs to them.

In a series of Instagram Stories on Tuesday, Perry promoted a message that said illegal migrants are the descendants of those who built California.

“Los Angeles has lived under three flags: Spain, Mexico, and the United States. That land has seen borders shift, power, change, hands, and yet the people, especially the brown and indigenous people, have always been there. Planting roots, building lives, raising families,” the message said. “And now, in 2025 the descendants of those same communities are being hunted, like criminals and their own ancestral home.”

“It’s more than infuriating, it’s a deep injustice. How can a city built on Mexican labor, Mexican history and Mexican culture turn around and criminalize the very people who shaped it?” the post added.

Kimmel says in Hollywood things are mostly peaceful — & endorses the uprising:

"I’m very angry, I have to say. I cannot believe what’s going on. I knew it was going to be bad, I did not know it was going to be this bad. People who have lived here their whole lives, people who have been in this city longer than I have, the vast majority of whom have never done anything wrong, are being abducted, which is the correct word to use, by agents in masks, hiding their identities, grabbing people off the street and at work, sending people to detention centers.

"And to protest that, which is not only our right as Americans, it’s our responsibility, Los Angelenos gathered to demonstrate &, with very few exceptions, peacefully demonstrate to voice their opposition to this disgusting & unnecessary abuse of power instigated by our mentally ill president, who is dead-set on exacerbating this, who actually wants conflict, who is intentionally inflaming & lying to make it seem like there’s a war going on. He wants there to be a war going on here & he doesn’t care who gets hurt in it.

"There’s no riot outside. We have more so-called ‘unrest’ here when one of our teams wins a championship."

UK to Continue Housing Illegals in Hotels At Taxpayer Expense Until 2029, Chancellor Admits

In a tacit admission that the migrant crisis will continue for the foreseeable future, British Chancellor Rachel Reeves said that the government plans to continue to use so-called “asylum hotels” until 2029.

In her Spending Review plans for the rest of this parliament, Finance chief Rachel Reeves attempted to cast the Labour government as being tough on migration, announcing that the recently-formed Border Security Command will receive £280 million per year to combat illegal migration in the English Channel.

However, in a statement which seemingly undermines Prime Minsiter Sir Keir Starmer’s vow to “smash the gangs” of people smugglers and end the human trafficking trade from France, Chancellor Reeves said that the government will only seek to end the use of migrant hotels by 2029.

“I can confirm today that, led by the work of the home secretary, we will be ending the costly use of hotels to house asylum seekers, in this parliament,” she said according to The Times.

“Funding that I have provided today, including from the Transformation Fund, will cut the asylum backlog, hear more appeal cases, and return people who have no right to be here, saving the taxpayer £1 billion per year.”

The use of hotels to house illegal migrants, which began in earnest under the previous Conservative government, has become a growing social and financial issue, with costs of the programme spiralling and local residents becoming increasingly angered over the impacts on their communities.

Nearly 150 Democrats Oppose Bill Banning Noncitizens From Voting In Nation’s Capital

The GOP-led House passed on Tuesday a bill to prohibit noncitizens from voting in local Washington, D.C., elections, overcoming the majority of Democrats who voted against the measure.

A total of 210 Republicans and 56 Democrats supported the legislation, which bars foreign nationals from voting in local contests in the nation’s capital and repeals a measure passed by the D.C. Council in 2022 that allowed it in the first place. Another 148 Democrats voted against it.

“Free and fair elections are a prerequisite for a healthy republic. The radical DC Council’s decision to allow noncitizens — including illegal aliens and foreign agents — to vote in local elections dilutes the voting power of the citizen voter,” said Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX), who introduced the House bill.

“That power must be defended, and I am thrilled House Republicans took action today to do so,” Pfluger added. “Anyone who voted against this legislation, voted for the transfer of political power away from legal voters. With the House passage of my legislation, we are one step closer to restoring the sanctity of the voting process to ensure that only American citizens are voting in our nation’s capital.”

In 2023, the House passed a resolution from Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) to block the enactment of the D.C. measure via the Home Rule Act. However, the Democrats who controlled the Senate at the time did not take up the resolution and the bill went into effect. Last year, the House passed a similar bill from Pfluger, but it met a similar fate.

Mayor orders New York City to use IHRA definition of antisemitism

Eric Adams signs executive order recognizing framework that covers some forms of Israel criticism, part of broader effort to combat widespread anti-Jewish discrimination

New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Sunday announced an executive order to recognize the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s working definition of antisemitism, part of a broader effort to combat anti-Jewish discrimination.

The order directed city agencies to use the IHRA definition to identify and address incidents of antisemitism. The definition covers some forms of anti-Israel rhetoric, giving city authorities more latitude to respond to hatred related to anti-Zionist activism.

Adams’s office also said he was introducing legislation to the city council, calling on the council to codify the IHRA definition, which would make it the law in the city.

An executive order could be rescinded by Adams’s successor as mayor, but implementing the IHRA definition as law would give the definition more staying power in city policy.

Last month, Adams announced a new task force housed in his office aimed at combating antisemitism. The Office to Combat Antisemitism is the first of its kind in a major US city.

The ADL has got to go

ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt’s vile and racist rant to a group of Republican DAs last week showed the man and the organization he leads for what they really are - a wolf in sheep's clothing.

As private citizens, even in our numbers, we are often limited in what we can accomplish, especially in the short term. This is especially true in the fight for Palestinian rights, where we not only confront massive economic and political power, but also a geostrategic map that doesn’t favor our cause. Perhaps most daunting of all, we have to contend with a public that is woefully misinformed but holds a significant and vocal minority which, whether out of hate or ignorance enthusiastically supports the most heinous and repulsive Israeli attacks on innocent Palestinians.

We can be most effective in the realm of public opinion. We rally, we march, we protest, we sit in, we block traffic. These activities have had an effect, even if that effect has grown at a maddeningly slow pace, while we watch more and more children die.

For years, outside of government offices, the main target has quite correctly been the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). There have been some real effects, as a few more politicians—again, not nearly enough—have realized that they can stand against AIPAC. The organization has become a symbol for corruption and the manipulation of campaign finance to enact unpopular legislation and policy. Those efforts need to continue.

But there is another threat that is clear, present, and, like AIPAC, starts by threatening the movement for Palestinian rights but is, in fact, threatening civil liberties, and the lives of many Arab, Jewish, progressive, and non-white Americans.

Unlike AIPAC, which has always made it abundantly clear that they act in the interest of the state of Israel, this group is a true wolf in sheep’s clothing, pretending to be a civil rights and anti-hate organization while, in fact, being exactly the opposite. That group is, of course, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

Conservative watchdog Judicial Watch sours on Patel, Bongino: 'Hostages of the Deep State'

They also fumed at the lack of transparency on the Epstein files, despite promises to release the documents.

Formerly conservative heavyweights, FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino are rapidly losing the confidence of the MAGA movement, with watchdog group Judicial Watch becoming the latest to blast their failure to deliver transparency this week.

In an investigative bulletin from the organization, Judicial Watch reporters highlighted their prior support for the pair, but lamented that the pair appeared to have been swept up by bureau norms.

"These days, as well, conservative insiders are alarmed by mounting signs that Patel and Bongino have been taken hostage by the Deep State consensus and are failing to bring meaningful change to the FBI," they wrote.

Judicial Watch specifically took issue with Patel's appointment of Steven Jensen, a leader of the Jan. 6 investigations, to lead the Washington Field Office.

They also fumed at the lack of transparency on the Epstein files, despite promises to release the documents.

"Conservatives still wish them well, but time is running out. And the president who promised to 'demolish the Deep State' is watching from the White House. They will not be forgiven for bungling a historic opportunity," they warned.

Bosnia refuses to hosts a gathering of Conference of European Rabbis it had invited

The hotel, in which the three-day meeting was to take place, informed the CER that it could not host the event due to “security reasons.”

Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), once considered “the Jerusalem of the Balkans,” reiterated its invitation to host a high-level meeting of the Conference of European Rabbis (CER), which was slated to take place next week.

The initial invitation aimed at recovering the image of Sarajevo and BiH as a place of tolerance of peaceful coexistence between religions after the explosion of antisemitism in the Muslim parts of the multi-ethnic confederation following the massacres of October 7.

BiH is also considered a stronghold of the radical and antisemitic Muslim Brotherhood movement in the Balkans and Europe.

JPost Videos

However, after the local press recently publicized the planned rabbinical conference, presenting it as a solidarity event with the State of Israel, local authorities caved to growing pressure and threats to cancel the event.

The hotel, in which the three-day meeting was to take place, informed the CER that it could not host the event due to “security reasons.” Some hours earlier, the city of Sarajevo canceled the gala dinner it had planned for the gathering’s participants.
