Tuesday’s PBS News Hour led off with special correspondent Marcia Biggs’ nearly nine-minute segment from downtown Los Angeles, ground zero in the confrontation between Trump’s immigration enforcement and protests that often devolved into looting and rioting.
Co-anchors Amna Nawaz and Geoff Bennett noted that “700 Marines and 2,000 additional National Guard troops began arriving” on Tuesday, while California Governor Gavin Newsom and President Trump drew political swords via a lawsuit filed by Newsom and Trump’s speech at Fort Bragg.
The hosts handed things off to Biggs, embedded in downtown Los Angeles, who saw “tense calm on the streets” while admitting to some looting the night before, with the usual ridiculous caveat of "nonviolent" protests.
Biggs: This morning, shop owners cleaned up several looted stores in downtown Los Angeles. But California authorities have said the majority of last night's protests were nonviolent. In a congressional hearing today, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said troops were sent to safeguard ICE agents.

Mainstream media outlets, perhaps eager to help Democrats deal with the public relations disaster caused by rioters waving the Mexican flag at riots in Los Angeles, are rushing to provide explanations or interpretations.
Politico explained in a sub-headline that flying the Mexican flag is a “long tradition … during times of anti-immigrant sentiment.”
It added:
Angelica Salas, a prominent activist in the state and executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, noted protesters also hoisted the flag in 2006, during massive demonstrations against George W. Bush-era legislation to crack down on illegal immigration.

When you see a lot of young people with their flags, it’s also claiming and [showing] support for their parents. So many of the young people who are marching are U.S. citizens, they’re second-, third-generation, maybe they are the first who were born in this country. Very much U.S. citizens by birth, but they want their parents to also know that they’re standing with them.
I feel like every time I ask a young person — whether they’re carrying a Mexican flag, a Salvadoran flag, a Guatemalan flag, or any other flag — it’s just about, ‘I want people to understand I’m proud of who I am. I’m not ashamed to be Mexican, and I’m certainly not ashamed of my parents. And I want them to know that I will not reject them.’ Because there’s a lot of pressure to reject the Mexican heritage.
The New York Times cited protesters who said they wanted to stand up for “diversity” against President Donald Trump’s supposed intolerance:
Bonnie Garcia, 32, a U.S.-born citizen from Los Angeles, said she had briefly considered stopping to buy an American flag before attending a rally on Monday that denounced the deployment of National Guard troops in the city. But she stuck with her original plan to bring two small flags representing the countries her parents came from, Guatemala and Mexico.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is gearing up to deploy elite tactical units to five Democrat-controlled cities drowning in chaos, according to a report from MSNBC.
What began with federal immigration enforcement in L.A. has ignited demonstrations—and even violent scenes—in major metropolitan areas.
The targeted cities—Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York City, and Northern Virginia—are sanctuary strongholds where local leaders have long thumbed their noses at federal authority, shielding criminal illegal aliens while lawlessness festers.
The announcement comes as Los Angeles, another Democrat-run disaster zone, spirals into anarchy following ICE raids.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom, both radical Democrats, have fanned the flames of anarchy, refusing to cooperate with federal authorities and instead coddling lawbreakers.
Newsom even had the audacity to challenge President Trump to “arrest me,” daring the administration to hold him accountable for his complicity in the chaos.
President Trump, unyielding in his promise to secure the border and protect American citizens, has already deployed 2,000 National Guard troops and 700 active Marines to Los Angeles to quell the riots, bypassing spineless state officials who’ve abandoned their duty.
MSNBC reports that ICE, equipped with Bear Cat armored vehicles, long guns, and tactical gear, are now poised to storm these five Democrat strongholds.
ICE’s Special Response Teams (SRTs) are highly trained, elite units within ERO (Enforcement and Removal Operations) tasked with handling high-risk situations, serving warrants, and assisting other law enforcement agencies.
