Ukrainian Drone Strike Kills Child in Belgorod Region, Governor Says

A Ukrainian drone strike on a village in the southwestern Belgorod region killed a child and injured two others, the regional governor said Thursday.
Authorities said the drone hit an apartment building in the village of Borisovka early Thursday, wounding three people, including a two-year-old boy.
Belgorod region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said the child was the grandson of an elderly woman also injured in the strike.
The third victim was a man who had been inside his apartment at the time. All three were taken to a local hospital, but the child later died of his injuries.
“He was in extremely critical condition, and doctors did everything they could,” Gladkov wrote on Telegram. “Despite their efforts, they couldn’t save him.”
The Belgorod region was one of several areas in Russia targeted in a wave of Ukrainian drone attacks between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Authorities in Belgorod reported multiple injuries and building damage, and the Defense Ministry said it had shot down more than 40 Ukrainian drones over the border region.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials said Russian attacks across Ukraine over the past 24 hours killed at least three people and wounded 37 others.

Hegseth confirms US diverted Ukraine’s anti-drone systems to Middle East

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth officially confirmed that anti-drone weapons intended for Ukraine were redirected to American forces stationed in the Middle East.
The APKWS II anti-drone rocket systems “are at least part, if not the main focus of this diversion in matériel,” TWZ reported. Meanwhile, Senator McConnell says Washington’s reputation is “on the line.”
This comes as Russia has escalated its daily long-range explosive drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, increasing civilian casualties.
For months now, US President Donald Trump has pushed for Kyiv-Moscow negotiations allegedly to end the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war, but two rounds of low-level talks have produced no results, with Russia showing no intention of stopping the war and continuing to demand Ukraine’s capitulation.
Testifying before the Senate Appropriations Committee on 11 June, Hegseth admitted for the first time that counter-UAS capabilities originally purchased for Ukraine under the Biden administration were instead prioritized for deployment in the CENTCOM area (North Africa – Middle East).
“Senator, as you know, the Middle East is and remains a very dynamic theater,” Hegseth claimed. “We’re going to surge counter UAS systems to our troops and our bases and our places first […] that has been and will continue to be a priority for us.”
Zelenskyy previously warned of looming weapon loss
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told ABC News last week that the US had agreed to send “20,000 missiles – anti-Shahed missiles,” which are now being diverted. “Without the help of the United States, we will have more losses.”
TWZ noted that “there are no traditional missiles available anywhere near that number,” meanwhile, the APKWS system is produced in large volumes and is specifically effective against Shahed-136 suicide drones.
“APKWS gives Ukraine another proven way to defend key target areas… without blowing through prized SAMs,” TWZ wrote,
The Wall Street Journal earlier reported that the Pentagon “quietly notified Congress” that APKWS-specific proximity fuzes were reassigned to US Air Force units.
These fuzes are essential to converting APKWS rockets into counter-drone weapons.
Senate tensions rise over confirmation
The public admission sparked renewed criticism from lawmakers. Republican Senator Mitch McConnell asked Hegseth which side he wanted to win the war, but Hegseth said the Trump administration sought an end to the killing without taking sides.
McConnell, a vocal Ukraine supporter, noted: “It seems to me pretty obvious that America’s reputation is on the line,” McConnell said. “Will we defend Democratic allies against authoritarian aggressors?”
Later in the hearing, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham pressed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Gen. Dan Caine on whether Russian President Vladimir Putin would stop at Ukraine.
“I don’t believe he is,” Gen. Caine responded, with Hegseth adding it “remains to be seen.”
APKWS
The APKWS II are laser-guided 70mm rockets previously used by Ukraine to intercept Russia’s Iranian-designed Shahed drones and low-flying missiles.
pods with such missiles have been forward-deployed with US’ F-15Es in Jordan and have been used in past months by US jets to down Houthi drones in the Red Sea.
The same guidance kits are also used in the VAMPIRE counter-drone system previously supplied to Ukraine.
According to TWZ, videos from Ukraine in 2023 showed APKWS being used on Humvees, but the VAMPIRE system with counter-drone fuzes became more widespread by December 2023.
These systems helped Ukraine defend key targets from Iranian-made kamikaze drones without depleting expensive SAM inventories.
Unclear future for US aid for Ukraine
Hegseth declined to specify how many APKWS rockets remain in stock or were sent to Ukraine.
“We would have to review the capacity,” he said, adding that US support to Ukraine had allegedly created “some challenges in other places.”
Earlier on 10 June, Hegseth said a cut in US military aid to Ukraine is almost certain, citing the Trump administration’s “very different view” of Russia’s war compared to former President Joe Biden’s and calling an unrealistic “negotiated peaceful settlement” the best outcome for both sides and US interests.
Since Trump assumed office in January, the US has neither approved any new aid for Ukraine, nor replied to Kyiv’s requests to buy aid defenses.

Overnight Ukrainian Drones Strike Hits Russian Military Tech Hub

On the night of June 11 / 12, units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces, in coordination with other Defense Forces units, attacked one of the key facilities of Russia’s military-industrial complex.
According to the Ukrainian General Staff, strikes were recorded at the Rezonit Technopark in the settlement of Zubovo in the Moscow region.
The site is known for the mass-production and assembling of printed circuit boards and electronics used in the manufacture of Russia’s high-tech weapons and military equipment.
The results of the strike are being clarified.
“The Defense Forces continue to take all necessary measures to undermine the military and economic potential of the Russian occupiers and force Russia to end its armed aggression against Ukraine,” the General Staff stated, adding: “To be continued! Glory to Ukraine!”
The Kremlin has not commented on the Ukrainian General Staff’s statement. However, on the morning of June 12, Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed that its air defense forces had allegedly destroyed 52 Ukrainian drones overnight across three Russian regions and occupied Crimea.
According to the statement, 41 drones were reportedly shot down over the Belgorod reion, 6 over Bryansk, 3 over Moscow, and 2 over Crimea.

Drone suspected of dropping package worth half a million dollars at N.B. penitentiary

The seizure of more than half a million dollars of contraband at a federal penitentiary in New Brunswick was from a suspected drone drop.
Correctional Service Canada (CSC) confirmed the use of a drone Thursday. It said the drone was not seized.
The package containing contraband was discovered on the perimeter of Dorchester Penitentiary on June 2, CSC said.
Officials say the items seized included methamphetamine, marijuana, shatter, nicotine patches and tobacco.
The total estimated institutional value of the seizure is $534,100, according to CSC.
“When offenders are involved in criminal acts, the Correctional Service Canada (CSC) takes appropriate measures for the safety and security of the institution, its staff, other inmates, and the public, and cooperates with law enforcement so that criminal charges can be laid,” said a CSC spokesperson in an email to CTV News.
No institutional charges were laid as a result of the drone drop. Last month, a drone was used to drop contraband at Springhill Institution in Nova Scotia.

Drone in near collision with Air NZ flight at 2000ft near Auckland Airport

A drone came dangerously close to an Air New Zealand Airbus passenger jet during its approach to Auckland Airport in April 2024, prompting renewed safety warnings from the Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC).
The aircraft was flying at 2000 feet (just over 600 metres) when the crew spotted what appeared to be a drone in controlled airspace, in breach of civil aviation rules. Drones are prohibited from operating within 4km of an airport without approval.
TAIC investigated the report and concluded it was “very likely” a drone. However, the device and its operator were never identified.
“Most drone users comply with civil aviation rules, but some either don’t know the rules or choose to disobey them due to an expectation they won’t face consequences,” said TAIC manager air investigations Jim Burtenshaw.
He said drone operators must take responsibility for safety and understand airspace restrictions before flying. Tools such as the AirShare website are available to guide operators.
TAIC also recommended further action, including licensing drone operators, registering drones, and using remote identification and geo-fencing technology to prevent future incidents.
It urged the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation Authority to ensure drones are safely integrated into the aviation system.
The Aviation Industry Association, which represents commercial drone operators, said it was disappointed that the Ministry and CAA hadn’t already done this and that it would be irresponsible if they did not take on TAIC’s recommendations.
Chief executive Simon Wallace said it has been advocating for licensing or certification for drones since 2022, because it would involve the implementation of standards.
“This incident, if it was a drone, could have been catastrophic if it had hit the aircraft. “This is why there has to be licensing. It is in everybody’s interests that there is a system that is safe and reliable.”

Natalia París started studying spirituality and esotericism after seeing her first ‘UFO’ as a child.
The 51-year-old, who now works as a DJ, claimed she could also see her “teacher’s aura reflected on the blackboard” while attending school.
Her belief in the supernatural has only been reinforced over time. She said: “I find it super entertaining.”
Natalia, who is considered one of Colombia’s most famous models, said in an interview with Caracol TV that “we live among aliens”.
She appeared on the show ‘Los Enredados’ alongside her daughter Mariana Correa, a singer who performs under the stage name Nana París.
The mum and daughter, who just released their pop collaboration ‘Monogamia’, share the same spiritual worldview and interest in unconventional topics.
Natalia, who comes from Medellín, said: “I saw a UFO when I was little, and I know I’m not crazy, I know what I saw.
“It was even in the newspaper the next day. “There have always been many sightings in Medellín.”
Her early experiences with the supernatural led her to study spirituality, esotericism, and conspiracy theories.
She explained: “It’s taboo and an almost forbidden subject, but I believe we live among extraterrestrials here.
“And I believe that we too are an extraterrestrial race.”
Since an early age, Natalia claims that she can perceive energies and supernatural presences that other people don’t notice, as reported by What’s The Jam.
But these experiences haven’t always been positive. The model, who debuted as a DJ in 2011, said she has encountered “beings from other worlds” who tried to “suck” her life energy from her.
Natalia and Mariana also spoke about their pop single ‘Monogamia’.
Despite their unusual views on the supernatural, they share the same traditional belief that polyamory is a bad idea.
Natalia said: “I’m a super open-minded woman, but a relationship should be with one person and no one else.”
Mariana added: “I respect people who do it, but no, not with my boyfriend.
“It can only end very badly.”

Curious Cluster of UFOs Filmed in Taiwan

An interesting piece of footage from Taiwan shows a curious cluster of flickering UFOs cruising across the sky over a city.
The intriguing sighting reportedly occurred last Thursday evening in the community of Douliu.
After first noticing the weird aerial anomalies while gazing out the window of their apartment, the witness indicated that they were so striking that they ventured out to the balcony to get a better look at the odd objects.
"They seemed to be moving really fast, more like they were glowing, not just white in color," the Douliu resident recalled, "so I started filming."
In the video, featured above, what appears to be at least three flickering whitish orbs can be seen steadily moving across the sky with the witness asking another person on the balcony "what is that?"
As the pair marvel at what they are watching, the individual filming the scene notes that "my eyes can't see it anymore, but the camera can still see it."
Eventually, the objects completely disappear, leaving the two witnesses wondering what exactly they were just watching.
To that end, some online observers have suggested that the cluster of UFOs was an otherworldly craft rendered barely visibly by way of some kind of cloaking technology.
Meanwhile, more skeptical viewers argue that the objects may have had a more prosaic explanation, such as an aircraft that took on an unusual appearance due to the overcast conditions at the time of the sighting and the perspective of the witnesses.
