The American flag stands for LIBERTY and We the People, not the government. Those who come here (legally) can love their home country but hate their home government, just like we can, and they have LIBERTY to fly their home countries flag.
That said, those who are here illegally are violating the law. I personally believe those who have lived here a long time and are fruitful and not committed crimes should get a chance to become citizens, those who are criminals should be deported after receiving their day in court (due process).

California is a sovereign state, they are not OWNED by the federal government. They love to say they're not sovereign and the constitution has no provision for succession, but it does. The 9th amendment protects the recognized rights of the declaration of independence even without the constitution itself.
