I had to do a little research because I dont know much about millitary parades in DC. I found that despite the complete lack of discussion of this phenomenon in my 70-80 civics education, we have indeed had military parades in DC. They have been either celebrations of wars won or rah rah events during war time. I did not find any record of celebrating the establishment of the Armed Forces or flag day for that matter. Keep in mind our founding father warned us about and were very critical of a standing army.
The last big parade was in 1991 celebrating our defeat of Iraq (seems that was a premature …). Truth be told I didn't even know that one happened at the time. Military Parades are not really an American thing, so pretty sure if it was celebrated on some day other than June 14th Americans would not be overly concerned.
