Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer has asked Capitol Police to “immediately” increase security for Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith from Minnesota, following the politically motivated attacks on state legislators.
“I am continuing to closely monitor the devastating and developing situation in Minnesota,” Schumer said in a statement early Saturday afternoon. “This morning, I spoke with both Senators Klobuchar and Smith. In light of this horrifying attack, I asked Capitol Police — as I did earlier this week for Senator Padilla — to immediately increase security for both senators.”
Schumer thanked the Sergeant at Arms and the Capitol Police for doing so.
“I have also asked the Senate Sergeant at Arms and Leader (John) Thune to convene a full briefing immediately when we return [to] D.C. on member security in light of this awful incident,” he said. “As we continue to follow this terrifying situation, I urge everyone to stay safe, stay vigilant, and reject political violence in all its forms.”

AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Capitol and Capitol grounds were evacuated after a credible threat was made towards state lawmakers planning to attend a protest.
The Texas Department of Public Safety released a statement claiming a credible threat was made towards state lawmakers who planned on attending protests in the area on Saturday.
