draw a ball, a ball has perfect, equal curvature. pick 3 points 1 mile apart and lable A,B, C. The curve between a-b is the same as the curve b-c. 8" time miles squared= 8X1X1=8 inches of curve. so the curve between a-b= 8 in and the curve b-c=8in. the curve a-c is 8 +8=16. The formula would tell you the curve is 8X2X2=32. 16 is not equal to 32.
