Just saw this and my heart sank.

What happened to the children?

Who was Lyudmila Rudenko? World chess champion who saved children in WW2 celebrated with Google Doodle

The mum reached the peak of international women's chess in her 40s but she stated the "most important thing" she'd accomplished was organising a train to evacuate children from the Siege of Leningrad in the Soviet Union during the Second World War .

The siege went on for more than two years and was one of the most destructive in world history. It killed around four million militants and hundreds of thousands more civilians.
