The European Union completed its implementation of Basel III with the entry into force of the new banking package on 9 July 2024. The prudential requirements will apply from 1 January 2025, with market risk rules postponed to preserve the international level playing field.
In the United Kingdom, the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) initially intended to implement Basel 3.1 on 1 July 2025, with a reduced transitional period of 4.5 years, aiming for full implementation by 1 January 2030.
