My dad, deceased now, he died in 2012 at the age of 88, had a business friend who was Jewish. This guy was a very wealthy trial attorney in Chicago. My dad was a Christian and this guy would take my dad on 3 day fishing trips up to Canada in his private plane every year to go fishing. My dad was his Shabbat Goy. He wined and dined my dad because my dad worked for an insurance company that gave this atty. a lot of business.
My dad really respected this guy because he thought this guy was really smart. My dad told me that on one of their 3-day fishing trips up to Canada they had gotten into a really deep religious discussion. My dad thought that he was really getting through to him with logic and reasoning. But at the end of the day, this guy just couldn't give up his Jewishness.

I think God puts us in the right place at the right time when he wants us to witness to someone. The Holy Spirit works in mysterious ways.
I know my dad was sad about thinking that he just wasn't able to get thru to his friend. But we never know what positive influence we may have had on someone without even knowing it. God has The Big Plan all figured out before we were even born.
Maybe the prayers are for our benefit so that we know where our help is coming from.
