Dogfood

Perhaps this needs it's own thread, but lab had CBC test = Ehrlichia

Platelets at 78000/bad. Platelets should be 200,000 to 600,000 for a dog. On doxy for 28 days. Platelets now 49000!

Started to check dogfood for iron content. Blue Buffalo, about $50 per bag/Several dog treats - Nothing that we are feeding her has any iron in it! Checked other dogfoods, no iron either.

Recommended daily requirement is 7.5mg per 30lbs. She is 73lbs which would mean that she would need 17.48mg per day.

Everything that we are feeding says that is is real meat and vegies plus vitamins and minerals. Why is there no iron? Called Blue Buffalo - Said that the iron content is 160-200 ppm. This is .00016 iron!

Just to note… Rice has 6%, Black beans has up to 15%, green peas have 6%, and even tomatoes have 2% iron per serving. Most meats have more than 2%.

If these dogfoods, in fact, have all of this "real food" in it, where is the iron?

Could "they" be extracting iron for some reason?

Last year, had a friend with dog that had to have transfusion because platelets were so low.

Anyone else having this problem with their pets?

Started making homemade dogfood today as a supplement. Another test next week after a week of steroids. We'll see.
