Yeah, that seems to fit with Thomas Jefferson's philosophy of "natural aristocrats" who could guide America by personal virtue. By Jefferson didn't envision the permanent national security state, extensive classification, withholding of exculpatory evidence by unaccountable bureaucracies.

I realize Trump has to worry about geopolitics in the short run, but it would be nice to have some semblance of American culture left in four years. I realize the voters have to trust the guy they voted for, but trust is not an infinite resource in human affairs.

Trump is not really as arrogant as he pretends to be. He just never talks about nuances in public. He acts like an uneducated fool in front of the cameras, but somehow he's clever enough to run gigantic profitable enterprises for decades. He believes he must never let the public see his doubts, and he might actually be right about that.

This does not mean he's omniscient or even super-intelligent. However his IQ is probably much higher than his public speaking would indicate. He's a smart guy who has been acting dumb in public and thus far it has worked well for him.
