If he was an investor or an influential person across different business's … he would be offered a position on the board as it would be beneficial to the company to have a person with his exposure. Looks like he was taken for a ride along with the other investors if he was placed on the board because of a monetary investment. And just embarrassed if they used him to help open doors for their business.
