when diving deep into this kind of subject, it is disturbing how many small faults, errors and substandard quality control defects add up to a chain of operation with countless weak links…
that becomes multiplied when hundreds or thousands of subtle devices and components are running together…
my car had a faulty wire bundle at a computer plug… it triggered more than 2500 other error codes and gave the car the most absurd schizo glitz. One little spot of bad computer wire insulation… and the car was rendered inoperable. That is fucking stupid that two tons of vehicle is rendered useless or deadly because of some cheep low grade plastic insulation.
I don't want to start ranting about 10 tons of John Deere stuck dead for want of an updated line of code, while crop has to rot in a field.
The q-quip about 'going back', i often wondered if it is suggesting going BACK to a much simpler array of devices and convenience that won't kill us from being impossible to keep operational or fix.
