CNN's Scott Jennings announces he's stepping away from show to head on 'incredible journey'

Story by Ellie Hook 1 week ago

One person CNN viewers didn't expect to be waving goodbye to, even if it is for a week, is Scott Jennings.

The 47-year-old conservative political strategist and writer, who is a frequent face and contributor on CNN, took to his Instagram on Monday to announce he was taking a break from the network.

He shared a series of pictures of himself, one was of him wearing a white Kippah, a small, brimless skullcap traditionally worn by Jewish men, as he faced what appeared to be a rock. The outspoken TV star also included several selfies of himself in a religious building, and another of him reading a small book.

"Friends - will be off TV this week as I journey through Israel. Already, what I’ve seen has been incredibly moving as a Christian and as a defender of the Jewish people and the Nation of Israel," he penned alongside the photodump.

Fans were quick to inundate the writer with comments under the post. One user @jennifernickens05 declared: "Safe travels for you! I won’t be watching until you return."

A second fan @steffanweston said: "Scott, as a Louisville resident, let me say you are making us proud! Keep battling for common sense," with @cmess425 sharing: "God bless Scott. I just told my husband that we need to also plan a trip there."

Thank you for your continued support of Israel and the Jewish people," user @sarfeldman gushed, which was echoed by user @rabbitzeusytheallmighty, who wrote: "Scott you are the definition of a Mensch! Thank you for everything you do! Enjoy the most magical place on earth!!!"

A fifth fan @totallyher_ch joined in with the praise, saying: "Thank you for your support. Your the only sane voice on CNN," and fan @thebabecavevintage raved: "WE LOVE & appreciate you so much Scott! Thank you for your fearless moral clarity and for constantly speaking up for us (jews & Civilized Americans who love this country) … Baruch Hashem for people like you!!!!"

As per Scott's caption, the star would likely be expected to return to his CNN chair next Monday.

It comes after the CNN pundit revealed that when he met President Donald Trump for the first time at the White House he was left stunned when he told him: "You look terrific."

Scott shared the anecdote during a public speaking event promoting his new book, A Revolution of Common Sense: How Donald Trump Stormed Washington and Fought for Western Civilization.

The book explores Trump's run for re-election using interviews with the president and his inner circle.

The CNN commentator revealed that, although he's discussed Trump publicly many times throughout his career,he only met the president for the first time in February.

"It's funny he's dominated almost my entire professional existence for the last decade and all my conversations, but I hadn't met him until February," Scott quipped in his speech.

He added that their first meeting was in the Oval Office, where he was met by a majority of Trump's cabinet members. In his best Trump impression, Jennings continued, "I walk in and he looks up from the Resolute Desk and he says, 'You look terrific. I mean you look good on TV, but in person you look terrific, have a seat.'"

Scott went on to say he "plopped down" on the famous Oval Office couch next to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

CNN’s Scott Jennings Shares Tense Firsthand Account From Israel

ByAndy Meek, Senior

Jun 15, 2025 at 06:52pm EDT

As Iran and Israel trade missile fire in one of the most volatile military escalations in recent Middle East history, CNN commentator and conservative political strategist Scott Jennings is experiencing the crisis firsthand.

Jennings, who traveled to the country for a tour of key cities and sites tied to the October 7 Hamas attacks, has moved between hotels in northern Israel and the capital city of Jerusalem over the past few days — finding himself stranded amid closed airports, emergency alerts, and incoming fire. On Sunday afternoon, he posted the following tense dispatch on social media: “Sirens in Jerusalem now… hearing booms as we head to shelter.”

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jennings expanded on the unfolding chaos around him. He told a reporter about how he’d been standing on his hotel balcony prepping for a CNN interview when the crisis unfolded. “In fact,” he told the reporter, “I’m looking at a military jet fly overhead right now.” As air raid sirens pierced the early morning air in Tiberius, on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, hotel staff ushered guests into designated safe zones. Just days earlier, Jennings had taken cover in a Jerusalem bomb shelter during dinner — a space that Jennings described as a tiny room, crammed with people.

The situation rapidly intensified over the weekend. After an Israeli strike reportedly killed key Iranian military leaders and targeted nuclear scientists, Iran’s ballistic missile response triggered a new round of alerts and lockdowns.

Jennings told THR he was ordered not to leave his hotel and has no idea when he’ll be able to fly out. “Airspace is closed, airports are closed. The thing we know the least about is how are we going to get out of here.”

Even as he seeks shelter, meanwhile, Jennings has taken to X (formerly Twitter) with pointed commentary. In a tweet early Sunday morning US time, he laid out a hawkish case for a broader confrontation with Iran — one he believes that President Trump is positioned to deliver:

“Israel is on the brink of remaking the Middle East and ending the biggest sponsor of radical Islamic terrorism in the world. Trump's strategic part in this move was brilliant.”

“Trump would be justified in taking out the Fordo nuclear enrichment facility. It would be a righteous decision. And if he does it, no question in my mind that he would deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.”

Calling it a “once-in-a-generation chance to make the world safer,” Jennings ended his post with a forceful call to action: “Bomb Fordo. Destroy the Iranian Octopus. Restore deterrence. Win the Nobel.”

CNN to hand pro-Trump pundit Scott Jennings big pay raise as part of new deal: report

Published March 7, 2025, 9:57 a.m. ET

CNN is on the verge of finalizing a lucrative new contract for conservative commentator Scott Jennings, a move that demonstrates the left-leaning network’s recognition of his growing influence and appeal among supporters of President Trump, according to a report.

Jennings, a veteran political strategist and respected voice in Republican circles whose analysis serves as a counterweight to the network’s often left-leaning discussions, is set to receive a substantial pay increase, according to the Status newsletter.

Specific terms of Jennings’ reported compensation boost couldn’t immediately be learned.

The new contract for Jennings, who has been mentioned as a possible candidate to succeed retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), is testament to his growing popularity among Trump supporters on social media who routinely post clips of his contentious interactions with co-panelists.

According to Status, talks between Jennings and CNN have been ongoing for months.

Jennings was reportedly keen on getting CNN to allow him to do his own show either online or on television, but management did not agree to the request, according to Status.

Nonetheless, he was able to get a hefty raise from CNN thanks to significant interest from other suitors — giving him leverage in talks with the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned outlet.

In a media environment that often sidelines conservative viewpoints,Jennings has carved out a unique role as an advocate for policies championed by Trump and the broader Republican movement.

Unlike many GOP establishment figures who have distanced themselves from Trump, Jennings understands the former president’s appeal and effectively communicates the sentiments of his base.

His ability to dissect complex political issues while countering liberal narratives makes him an invaluable asset for CNN as it strives to maintain credibility with viewers across the political spectrum.

The move by CNN to retain Jennings comes at a tumultuous time for television news outlets, which have had to downsize amid dwindling audiences.

Earlier this year, CNN announced approximately 200 layoffs, equating to about 6% of its workforce, as part of a strategic shift toward digital operations.

Similarly, NBC News implemented a smaller-scale reduction, eliminating over 40 positions, primarily in production roles, to adapt to the evolving media landscape.

Earlier this week, ABC News underwent significant restructuring, merging “Good Morning America” and “GMA3” into a single production unit and shutting down the data-focused site FiveThirtyEight, resulting in the layoff of all 15 staff members. In total, around 200 employees across ABC News and Disney Entertainment Networks were laid off.

Meanwhile, CNN continues to struggle to attract viewers.

• In January, Fox News, which shares common ownership with The Post, led cable news ratings, averaging 2.78 million primetime viewers — a 40% increase from the previous year.

• Comcast-owned MSNBC attracted 734,000 viewers, down 33%, while CNN had 522,000 viewers, a 14% decrease.

• In the key 25-54 demographic, Fox News secured 353,000 viewers, surpassing CNN’s 118,000 and MSNBC’s 63,000.

CNN has recently made notable changes to its programming lineup as part of a broader effort to adapt to shifting viewer habits.

“The Situation Room” has expanded its coverage, with Wolf Blitzer and Pamela Brown co-anchoring the program.Their new roles replaced Jim Acosta’s previous morning slot following his departure from CNN.

Acosta, who was combative as White House correspondent during the first Trump term in office, had been with the network for nearly two decades. He declined a proposed shift to a late-night time slot, ultimately leading to his exit.

(KEK Acosta shafted himself while they were trying to give him a bone, now he does a podcast no one watches)

Lindell was the only patriot willing to lose everything to prove the cheating, and guess what, that ruling will be overturned because the Trump Admin is going to prove it, and Dominion have to give back billions.

Lindell was the first Sacrificial Lamb and he volunteered for it, because the proof that comes out will take the WW interference in U.S. is soon to be exposed.

Oh what did Tulsi say at the war room at the WH, “Mr. President, we have proof the 2020 election was stolen.” It was so out of the blue, it had to be said like that. Guess what, every fucking country and cheaters were already being tracked.

The trap was set up! Mike will get a ton of money back!
