A woman cannot get pregnant while she is having her period. So any religion that says that sex is for procreation, would obviously discourage sex while a woman is having her period.
Waiting 2 weeks after the first day that her period starts will greatly increase the possibility of having a male child.
A male child is always preferred over a female child.
A male child is considered an asset. A female child is considered a liability.
Having sex before waiting for that two week time period, increases the likelihood of having a female child.
