Not that I like the Iranian mullahs, but they came to power b/c of a revolution. That revolution happened in a specific context - namely CIA support for a brutal dictator that basically tortured and killed anyone that disagreed with him.

Now, we had our reasons at the time (and now as well); but really? we're looking (or someone) is looking to install the son of a clown?
