If you know anyone that does not wear an appropriate helmet, show them this: Last

I week I went down on my road bike. I hit a small patch of mud, fishtailed slightly, then physics won. I went over doing 20-25mph on concrete. Finally came to a stop about 20 ft later. The bicycle's rear wheel has a clean break (likely at the seam). A third of the spokes are bent. My helmet was cracked in half and 3 of the 4 straps were pulled out. I apparently landed on my hip as it was fractured. A few bruises and a couple of square inches of road rash, but that was all. Other than the hip, I could have easily got up and walked away. 24 hours later I had 2 new screws in my pelvis and today I am walking around(slowly).
Had I not been wearing the helmet, I am sure the story would be very different. Had the head injury not killed me, I am sure it would have left permanent damage. Instead I lived to tell the tale.
BTW, I should have called an ambulance, bad sunburn from sitting in the sun waiting and it turns out Urgent care does not do hip x-rays. They demanded I get right to an ER trauma center, and they were right.
