Offshoot Of Syria's Ruling HTS Claims Credit For Damascus Church Bombing

On Sunday, a massive suicide bomb attack tore through the important Greek Orthodox church Mar Elias in Damascus, killing 27 and wounding dozens more. The huge attack just added to the spate of sectarian violence across Syria, which undercuts the Islamist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) government’s claim to be protecting religious minorities.

The HTS was quick to blame ISIS for the Mar Elias bombing, and on Monday announced the arrest of a number of ISIS associates who they claimed were involved, vowing to bring them to justice. Now that whole narrative seems in doubt.

ISIS never took credit for the Mar Elias bombing, which, since it was the biggest attack in Damascus in a very long time, would be an unusual oversight. Now, another group, Saraya Ansar al-Sunnah (SAAS), issued its own statement claiming credit for the attack.

SAAS, which was said to be formed in February, went on to say that the government’s claims of arresting people involved with the attack were “untrue, fabricated.” The group is being presented as an ISIS splinter group by some reports, but the reality is substantially different.

SAAS does indeed have some ISIS defectors within, according to reports, but it also has a substantial number of HTS defectors.

SAAS founder Abu Aisha al-Shami was an HTS member, and said he broke away and formed his own group because he perceived HTS as being too soft on Shi’ites and other “rejectionists.”

While HTS has undergone a massive reformation in its presentation in the media, the group was a renamed al-Qaeda affiliate that retains its deeply Salafist ideologies.

Gridlocked: AI's power needs could short-circuit US infrastructure

You are not prepared for 5 GW datacenters, Deloitte warns

Power required by AI datacenters in the US may be more than 30 times greater in a decade, with 5 GW facilities already in the pipeline..

A Deloitte Insights report, "Can US infrastructure keep up with the AI economy?" paints a picture of ever larger datacenters burning ever more energy, while the grid infrastructure and new power sources are stuck in the slow lane due to factors such as bureaucracy and supply chain disruption.

Potential solutions to this problem hinge on hopes for tech innovation making AI infrastructure more energy efficient, regulatory changes, and a massive funding injection.

By now, anyone in the tech industry is likely aware that all the hype surrounding AI is driving a boom in infrastructure-building to develop and deploy ever more sophisticated AI models.

Deloitte estimates that US datacenters last year consumed about 33 GW of energy in total, with AI facilities accounting for 4 GW of that (about one-eighth). Looking ahead to 2035, it forecasts that the power required by these facilities will be five times larger, yet the AI datacenter power draw will increase more than thirtyfold to 123 GW, accounting for 70 percent of the 176 GW total.

And there won't be just more bit barns, they'll also be bigger. The largest US datacenters operated by the big three hyperscalers currently draw less than 500 MW, according to Deloitte, but some under construction now are likely to top 2 GW.

There are also 50,000-acre datacenter campuses now in the early stages of the planning process that could consume as much as 5 GW, or about as much as 5 million homes (yes, we know some people dispute that kind of calculation).

In short, demand for energy is only going to go up. And much of the increase in demand-serving datacenter growth over the past year has primarily been met with more gas-fired electricity generation, Deloitte says, despite the much-vaunted clean energy and net-zero goals of the hyperscale operators.

The report warns there is currently a seven-year wait on some requests for connection to the grid, and power generation development typically takes longer than datacenter buildouts. The latter can be completed in a few years, while gas power plant projects without existing equipment contracts are not expected to become available until the next decade.

Supply chain issues are constraining energy companies and hyperscalers alike, as many critical components are imported and now subject to tariffs. Both industries face potential increases in the cost of steel, aluminum, copper, and cement that could impact the build-out of power infrastructure.

No product? Billion valuation? Sounds it’s 1999

A new startup, founded and led by for OpenAI CTO Mira Murati just raised the largest seed round ever; $2B. Her company, Thinking Machines Lab, has an estimated valuation of $10B based on the fundraise.

Here’s the kicker, Thinking Machine Labs has no product. All it has is a vague stated goal “to make AI systems more widely understood, customizable, and generally capable” and a bunch of AI heavy hitters on its founding team.

It’s also a public benefit corporation. So, you know, a ton of money to “make the world a better place” with the corporate equivalent of “a concept of a plan”. Nothing to see here, folks.

To top it off, the company is structured in such a way Murati’s votes on the BOD are weighted to give her majority decision making capability. What could possibly go wrong?

Vitamin D helps lower the risk of colorectal cancer by up to 58%, new study finds

New research involving over 1.3 million people shows that higher blood levels of vitamin D are linked to up to 58% lower risk of colorectal cancer, especially in women. Vitamin D helps slow cancer cell growth, support gut health and reduce inflammation, factors that are all important in preventing tumour formation in the colon.

A whopping 80% of adults are either deficient or insufficient in vitamin D, which significantly increases their risk of developing colorectal cancer over time. Getting regular sun exposure or supplementing with vitamin D has been shown to reduce the risk of polyps and tumours, even in people with a genetic risk for colon cancer.

Testing your vitamin D levels and correcting deficiencies through sunlight, supplements, or food is one of the most powerful and low-cost ways to reduce your colon cancer risk.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most prevalent types of cancer today, particularly in Western countries where modern, processed-food diets have become the norm. Every year, 1.2 million cases of colorectal cancer are diagnosed worldwide, and around 930,000 people succumb to this disease.1 It’s the second most common cancer affecting men and ranks as the third most common cancer in women.2

Some of the early symptoms of colorectal cancer include abdominal discomfort, blood in the stool, fatigue and unexplained weight loss. However, these symptoms are usually dismissed until the disease has progressed, and it’s too late.

Now, research has highlighted a powerful yet often overlooked factor that will help protect against this lethal disease – vitamin D.

Fed cuts won’t reverse structural collapse

They keep pointing to interest rates like it’s the reason everything is falling apart. But the truth has been sitting in plain sight for years.

Since the lockdown era began, the cost of living didn’t just rise. It launched. A basket of basic goods that cost $100 in 2019 now takes over $130 to replace. That’s not inflation anymore. That’s structural erosion. Real wages never caught up. Paychecks are heavier in numbers but lighter in power.

Home prices took the same path. In 2019, the median home hovered near $320,000. Now it’s over $430,000. Rates moved up and down. Didn’t matter. The asset bubble was already baked in. Supply is squeezed, institutional buyers are feasting, and the average working family is locked out. Even with 7% mortgages softening demand, prices refuse to drop.

Government deficits are running hot with no sign of reversal. The U.S. is now $36.6 trillion deep in debt. Washington added over $1.8 trillion in new red ink last year alone. In May 2025, they ran a monthly shortfall of $316 billion. Interest payments are now larger than the defense budget.

Meanwhile, households are sinking. Consumer debt just hit $18.2 trillion, an all-time record. Credit card balances are back over $1.18 trillion. Student loans passed $1.63 trillion, and delinquencies are up sharply. Over 6 million borrowers are behind on payments. Auto loan defaults are climbing too.

This isn’t a rate story. It’s a cost of living collapse.

You don’t fix 34% price inflation with a policy tweak. You don’t erase $36 trillion in debt with a pause. You don’t rescue the consumer with a symbolic cut. The damage wasn’t caused by rates. It was caused by reckless fiscal expansion, artificial asset inflation, and a structural shift that broke affordability in every major sector.

Nothing about today’s crisis is cyclical. The foundation has changed. The system is bloated. The math is broken.

Israel supporters want Australian journalists, from The SMH and The Age, found in contempt of court – Hearing on the 25-6-25

The Antoinette Lattouf v ABC unlawful termination judgment will be handed down next Wednesday, 25th of June 2025, at 10.15am and straight after that at 11.30am journalists, editors, the head lawyer, The Age and The SMH face contempt proceedings in the same matter.

A group of unknown people, who made complaints against Antoinette Lattouf to the ABC which led to her sacking, were granted suppression orders in the case, because they claim their safety was in danger, and they now say The Age, The SMH and staff breached those suppression orders.

There is a lot of secrecy around the contempt matter but from what I can tell originally the unknown people were asking the judge to direct or request the Registrar of the Federal Court of Australia consider contempt charges against the The Age, The SMH and staff.

But given the judge issued extensive orders for both parties to file evidence and set down a hearing date it looks like the judge has gone straight to a contempt of court hearing without a referral to the Registrar. (Click here to see the court orders)

I would expect the contempt hearing to be livestreamed given the original hearing was and the judgment next Wednesday will also be livestreamed. But then again, given the secrecy it mightn’t be livestreamed.

It is a sad situation when supporters of a foreign country, who are possibly foreigners, try to silence Australian media. I published a video as per below on the judgment and contempt matter:

Expert says Israel-Iran war far from over despite ceasefire

Gabriel Noronha, president of POLARIS National Security: 'This does not preclude future Israeli strikes into Iran in the future'

With the ceasefire in effect, the Iran-Israel conflict is once again primarily a matter between the two countries—without U.S. involvement—according to Gabriel Noronha, president of POLARIS National Security.

Speaking to ILTV News, Noronha emphasized that the war between Israel and Iran is far from over.

“This [the ceasefire] does not solve the underlying issues,” Noronha said. “This does not preclude future Israeli strikes into Iran in the future, but what it really does is it takes the US out of the equation for the near future, making this more of an Israeli-Iranian conflict down the road.”

Deuteronomy 27:19

19 “Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”

Exodus 12:49

49 The same law applies both to the native-born and to the foreigner residing among you.”

Deuteronomy 24:14

14 Do not take advantage of a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether that worker is a fellow Israelite or a foreigner residing in one of your towns.

Leviticus 25:35

35 “ ‘If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and are unable to support themselves among you, help them as you would a foreigner and stranger, so they can continue to live among you.

Jeremiah 7:5-7

5 If you really change your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly,

6 if you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow and do not shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not follow other gods to your own harm,

7 then I will let you live in this place, in the land I gave your ancestors for ever and ever.

Romans 13:1-7

1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.

4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.

5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.

6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.

7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
