>there has to be a better way to support the farmers?

Yesโ€ฆ. they need to diversify and bring back the farms of yesteryear. Stop shipping everything here from Cali and overseasโ€ฆ. we can grow our own damn vegetables instead of killing EVERYONE with mono cultures. IMHO hog and cattle confinements need to be illegal and returning the corn to grass and grazing the grass would be a huge improvement. They don't do that right now though because it takes about 6 months longer to raise cattle on grass vs grain. But that 6 months is paid for with all the energy it costs to plant/spray/harvest the corn. And now we know grass is MUCH healthier for humans instead of grain. The day they return to caring about PEOPLE instead of PROFIT.

And I wonder what would happen to the construction industry if you couldn't get a loan to buy a house. They would have to seriously up their game. Right now $225K for a 2-4 bedroom 3000 sq ft house is the norm. Maybe they'd start building 2-3 bedroom 1000 sq ft houses again and big houses would be the cheapest on the tax rolls because they cost so damn much to maintain. I have seen big houses with cheaper taxes than I have BECAUSE they are so big and hard to maintain. Now, that wast 20-30 years ago and now the inverse is true.

We wuz kangsโ€ฆ..

where is the new javascript anon?

There is a bug in your javascript. If (some) of the images are blocked in the post, the NOPE button does not appear. So, because of that I had to revert to the older version of the [nope] javascript which leaves the button alone no matter how many pics there are.

Why does he need to go to college?

This book from JJ Luna is EXCELLENT.

https://codenameinsight.blogspot.com/2010/06/review-skip-college-go-into-business.htmlAll

There are SO many other things to do in this world while you're young instead of going to college.

Have you looked into coolworks.com? I did that for 4 years and it was AWESOME. Summers only, but could easily do it year round.

What does he want to do with his life? Does he have any marketable skills right now?

There are thousands of different things that can be done that do NOT require college. Hell, I'd go find a job on coolworks.com that had high speed internet, spend my days working and spend my nights learning certifications for a remote job in internet security.

> I never went to college

That's the biggest fallacy. Why do you believe that your child will be better off in college with a degree in business? How long have you been here on the chan? What have you learned about "business" from what you have seen here on the chan? What is success? What is the "old system"? What are we building here?

My wife's family believed all this bullshit about going to college. She was the only one in the family to successfully get a 4 year degree. She is now $110K in debt that we have absolutely no hope of paying for. I'm on disability and I'm a handyman. I work when I feel like working. No more and no less. She works 30-40 hours a week making $11 an hour because otherwise she'd sit on her ass watching Malcolm in the Middle all the time.

Our house is paid for. Cash. 1 bedroom 2.5 garages on a standard city lot. Our taxes are $250 a year. Our utilities are $300 a month with cell phones and all.

LITERALLY the only things I hire out is auto a/c work and auto tire work. I do everything else myself.

If you don't plan to succeed, you PLAN TO FAIL.

Now before you say that "But you get disability it doesn't apply bullshitโ€ฆ. let me remind you that I only get ~$900 a month. That's 2 weeks of actual work a month. SO you could have a job, working 20 hours a week and be in the same position that I am in, if you only planned for it.

There are thousands of books out there. Fine Homebuilding/ Taunton Press as well as Craftsman Book Company are both EXCELLENT professional level references for handymen/carpenters. Chilton has a LOT of reference books for mechanics. Youtube is where I have found some of my best information as well. Google is your friend.

Forget the old paradigm of hiring everyone and their brother and learn how to save your world yourself.

>I do agree with you. Spouse is in construction and does better than most college grads I know.

Why isn't spouse teaching child? Why isn't spouse showing child the way? The best carpenters and construction people are those who have been immersed in it from the time that they were young.

The reason why I am successful is because I was immersed in it from the time I was young. When I was 5 years old or so I was cutting some 1/4" plywood with a jigsaw and cut the tip of my pinky finger off. It was a very early lesson in the dangers of power tools. One that I have remembered to this day.

Alsoโ€ฆ you are still in the Obama mindset. The world needs people who can fix things. Build things. Keep the world humming. We don't need any more fucking businessmen.

My grandma sold her farm because she said she didn't want me to be a farmer. It'd been promised to me since I was a very young boy, my grandpa died when I was 4.5 and the farm was in the trust before he died. I believe my grandfather would have wanted me to carry on the farm if I could. The farm was in a trust, which I will receive the proceeds from in November of this year, 15 years after my grandmother died and I turn 35. Now, I have to start with 50K in cash and work my way back into owning a farm. It sucks, but tis life.

Stop believing all the shit you see on TV.

>Getting a degree in something like philosophy

it can also guarantee that you're a brainwashed mother fucker.

Look up the sad story of Brett Campbell. The dumb fuck went to college for philosophy, then he went to Mongolia with the Peace Corps, then he converted to Budduhist and became a chaplain for the Air Force or some other kind of shit. He's very brainwashed.
