This anon lived in Portland OR in the 70s. Lived in a big old house with a bunch of freaks. Grew giant greenhouse stands of sprouts and wheatgrass and sold at the Farmers Markets. I made denim purses and skirts, embroidered them up in wild freestyle stitchery and sold them at Saturday Market under the Burnside Bridge.
My point is, not all the early hippies were useless fucks. Sure, the whole city smelled like weed even back then. But it also smelled like a flower garden. The rhododendrons were spectacular. The Rose Gardens up by Washington Park were beautiful. Even the ferns and wildflowers along the Banfield Freeway heading east were magical. Folks were tough rock n rollers and we carried pistols, food, flowers and all sorts of grooviness to the outdoor music festivals. We were like these Oregonians are now. They are magnificent and great and I would love to see the purity and goodness of the 70s Oregon again in my lifetime.
