Senate Version Of Trump Tax Bill Adds $3.3 Trillion To Deficit, $500BN More Than The House; Debt Ceiling Raised By $5 Trillion

The Senate version of President Trump’s Big, Beautiful Bill (BBB) will add nearly $3.3 trillion to US deficits over a decade, according to the latest estimate from the Congressional Budget Office, half a trillion more than the $2.8 trillion in deficit expansion under the House version of the same bill. That’s from a starting point with debt to GDP already in excess of 120% and the fiscal deficit sitting close to a peacetime record.

The CBO score for the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill reflects a $4.5 trillion decrease in revenues (i.e. tax cuts relative to the pre-TCJA baseline) and a $1.2 trillion decrease in spending through 2034, relative to a current law baseline.

The Senate bill, by Republican request, was also scored as saving $508 billion over a decade relative to a current policy baseline. The party’s lawmakers have sought to use the accounting maneuver to permanently extend President Donald Trump’s 2017 income-tax cuts, and score them as costing nothing.

While this approach is expected to pass, it effectively dooms the US to debt collapse as every subsequent administration will use the same tactic from now on and pretend that trillions in incremental spending every 4 years are really just an extension of the baseline. Meanwhile, the US is set to hit $40 trillion in debt in less than 2 years.

What does this mean? It means that Senate Republicans slapped a price tag on their tax package that is nearly 90% lower than the version that recently passed the House. They didn't bring the price down by changing the policies in the One Big Beautiful Bill. Instead, the Senate simply changed the way they did the math.

Senate Republicans are using a new method to estimate the costs of their tax package that ignores the price of continuing any tax policy in effect when the bill is passed. That method of accounting, called the "current policy" baseline, lets the Senate advertise President Donald Trump's tax package at one-tenth of its impact on the nation's finances as estimated by Congress's usual way of counting costs. If the costs were estimated in the traditional way, the Senate's proposed tax package would add $4.2 trillion to the national debt, according to preliminary estimates from the nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget

‘Targeted, sophisticated’ cyberattack hits ICC

The International Criminal Court said June 30 it had identified and contained a targeted “cybersecurity incident”, the second such attack in the space of two years.

The ICC said the incident came “late last week”, describing the attack as “new, sophisticated, and targeted”.

A spokesman for the ICC told AFP he could not be more precise on the timing of the incident.

The court is based in The Hague, which last week hosted world leaders including US President Donald Trump for a summit of the 32 members of the Nato military alliance.

In 2023, the ICC suffered what it then said was an “unprecedented” cyberattack that it later revealed to have been an attempt at espionage.

The court’s statement gave no details about a potential suspect for last week’s attack but the institution is currently pursuing several high-profile cases.

It has an arrest warrant pending for President Vladimir Putin over the deportation of children from war-torn Ukraine to Russia.

Former Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte is in ICC detention awaiting possible trial for alleged murders carried out during his so-called “war on drugs”.

And the ICC has also issued an arrest warrant for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity during the war in Gaza.

This sparked outrage in Washington, with Mr Trump slapping sanctions on top ICC officials, including four judges and Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan.

FBI Compromised by Cartel Hacker Who Gained Control of Cameras, Multiple Left Dead in Fallout

Unidentified computer hackers associated with the Sinaloa drug cartel were able to garner phone records from the FBI, then used Mexico City surveillance cameras to compromise key informants and witnesses so they could murder them back in 2018, a new report showed.

This information was disclosed to the Justice Department in an Inspector General audit of the FBI’s efforts to “Mitigate the Effects of Ubiquitous Technical Surveillance,” according to Fox News.

The report cited the case against Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, who used to lead the cartel, but who was extradited to the United States back in 2017. While federal authorities were working the case, they were alerted to the hiring of a hacker “who offered a menu of services related to exploiting mobile phones and other electronic devices.”

The hacker “had observed people going in and out of the United States Embassy in Mexico City and identified ‘people of interest’ for the cartel, including the FBI Assistant Legal Attache (ALA T), and then was able to use the ALA T’s mobile phone number to obtain calls made and received, as well as geolocation data, associated with the ALAT’s phone,” the audit read.

“According to the FBI, the hacker also used Mexico City’s camera system to follow the ALAT through the city and identify people the ALAT met with,” the report continued. “According to the case agent, the cartel used that information to intimidate and, in some instances, kill potential sources or cooperating witnesses.”

The audit also highlighted how modern technology has “made it easier than ever for less-sophisticated nations and criminal enterprises to identify and exploit vulnerabilities created by” data from everyday items like smartphones and personal computers.

Some within the U.S. intel community, including CIA officials, described the threat as being “existential.”

This should send a message to the U.S. that computers have become the new battlefield. And we are still vulnerable in this area.

Even if the federal government expanded funding and continued using all the technology at its disposal, drug cartels can still gain the upper hand.

One of the greatest investments the country can make — aside from cyberterrorism units and the training of current agents — is specialized education for our young people.

By training a new generation of hackers to counteract these anonymous killers, we ensure that there’s a future firewall against murder, financial crimes, blackmail, and other efforts to harm the nation.

This would require major education reform that removes propaganda from the classroom and restores a culture that values merit-based achievement.

The audit also revealed the lengths a drug cartel will go if they see someone standing in their way.

President Donald Trump understood this threat when he issued an executive order designating certain cartels as terrorist organizations.

Trump’s action rightfully stated, “International cartels constitute a national-security threat beyond that posed by traditional organized crime, with activities encompassing: convergence between themselves and a range of extra-hemispheric actors, from designated foreign-terror organizations to antagonistic foreign governments.”

‘We don’t know’ where Iran’s enriched uranium is – IAEA chief

Rafael Grossi has said over 400kg of nuclear materialmayhave been moved before Israeli-US strikes

More than 400 kilograms of enriched uranium remains unaccounted for in Iran following Israeli and US airstrikes on key nuclear facilities, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has said.

Speaking to CBS in an interview aired on Sunday, Grossi admitted that “we don’t know where this material could be, or if part of it could have been under the attack during those 12 days.”

Grossi said Iran’s stockpile of uranium enriched to 60% purity – which is shy of the 90% required to build a nuclear weapon – has effectively gone missing since Israel and the US launched strikes on the country. Some of it could have been destroyed and some could have been moved, he noted.

The uranium stockpile in question has an estimated volume of roughly 400kg, a quantity the IAEA has assessed as theoretically sufficient to produce more than nine nuclear bombs if enriched to 90%.

Israel launched an attack on Iran on June 13, claiming it was on the brink of building a nuclear weapon – something which had been denied by the IAEA and US intelligence. On June 22, the US joined the Israeli campaign by striking Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities. Tehran vehemently denied the allegations and retaliated to the attacks.

Last week, the conflict ended in a US-brokered ceasefire, which has so far been upheld.

Grossi has claimed that despite the Israeli-US bombing campaign and significant damage to Iran’s nuclear facilities, Tehran may still be capable of restarting its uranium enrichment operations “in a matter of months.” He noted that the knowledge possessed by Iran cannot be “disinvented.”

He also stated that Iranian officials had informed the IAEA on June 13 that protective measures were being taken to safeguard nuclear assets. A Western diplomat told Reuters that most of the material at Fordow appeared to have been moved “days in advance of the attacks,” citing satellite images showing trucks outside the site.

Former IAEA inspector Olli Heinonen said the process of confirming the uranium’s fate will likely be lengthy and arduous, involving forensics and environmental sampling. He warned that some of the material may be “inaccessible, distributed under the rubble or lost during the bombing.”

Meanwhile, Iran has suspended cooperation with the IAEA and rejected Grossi’s request to inspect the damaged sites, including Fordow. The Iranian parliament voted last week to end the country’s compliance with routine monitoring under the Non-Proliferation Treaty, citing the agency’s failure to prevent “unlawful” military action.

US President Donald Trump has denied that Iran was able to relocate any uranium before the strikes, suggesting it was “very dangerous” and “very hard” to do. He also claimed that the Iranians didn’t move anything because they were trying to save themselves from the attack.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has praised West Jerusalem’s digital prowess

Germany should look to Israel as a model for countering online threats, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said Sunday, calling for the creation of a “cyber dome.”

Dobrindt made the statement after a visit to Israel on Saturday, just days after the conclusion of the country’s 12-day military conflict with Iran. In an interview with the German tabloid Bild, Dobrindt praised Israel’s civil defense infrastructure and urged his country to adopt similar approaches to modern threats.

”We will work closely with Israel on this. Germany needs a cyber dome – a powerful, digital shield against espionage, sabotage, and to protect critical infrastructure such as energy and communications companies,” he said.

Dobrindt did not provide specifics. His use of the term “cyber dome” appeared to reference Israel’s Iron Dome short-range missile defense system.

Earlier this month, Germany’s Federal Crime Office (BKA) reported record levels of cybercrime in 2024, documenting over 131,000 cases. The agency specifically blamed pro-Russian and anti-Israeli hacktivist groups for a surge in denial-of-service operations targeting government agencies and private businesses.

Germany’s new government, which took office in May, has backed Israel in its recent conflict with Iran. Chancellor Friedrich Merz said West Jerusalem was doing “dirty work for us” by launching strikes in order to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.

The confrontation between Israel and Iran involved long-range strikes between the two nations. According to West Jerusalem, the conflict has resulted in an estimated $3 billion in direct damages to the country. Tehran has accused the Jewish State of committing an act of international aggression and said it was acting in self-defense by retaliating.

Last week, Merz’s government approved a proposed budget that includes substantial new public debt in order to sharply increase defense spending, which is set to double by 2029. The Police State Is Coming To A Town Near You

Judge Andrew P. Napolitano examines the moral and historical errors in the argument that less freedom produces more safety.

We have seen this before.

A foreign entity attacks American persons or property and the government warns that its sleeper cells have infiltrated the United States and it is somehow necessary to expand the powers of the government and shrink protections for civil liberties — and this shrinkage will somehow keep us all safe.

The premise of this deeply flawed argument is that less liberty produces more safety. That premise is historically and morally erroneous. Even if we had cops watching us on every street corner or FBI agents virtually in every home, who will keep us safe from them? And who would want to live, who could be private and free, in such an environment?

Here is the backstory.

When James Madison referred to the creation of the American republic as an inversion, he must have been met with quizzical looks and curious laughter. He meant that throughout history, popular governments came about by monarchs and despots — the sovereign — begrudgingly giving up power. This was, to Madison, power giving liberty.

In America, however, Madison argued — following his neighbor and good friend Thomas Jefferson, who maintained that individual persons are sovereign — the government came about by an inversion of the old way. In America, liberty gave power.

Thus, at the end of the American war for independence, which began 250 years ago, there was no central government here. The king’s agents and soldiers had been chased back to England, and many of his judicial and administrative officials retreated into private life or suddenly became patriots.

The 13 states were the only meaningful governments, and all persons — actually, all land-owning adult white males — were recognized as sovereign. I say “recognized” because Jefferson’s theory of the primacy of the individual over the state was his understanding of Natural Law Theory, and the natural law is color- and gender- and wealth- and status-blind. It teaches that all human beings possess equal natural rights from birth, recognized at the age of reason, and exercisable upon earliest adulthood.

Hence, because of perverse racial attitudes about Africans and Native Americans and antediluvian attitudes about women and wealth, Jefferson’s iconic language in the Declaration of Independence that “all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights” makes no sense unless it is understood to mean that all persons are created equal.

This uniformity of equality, which colonial society here limited to adult, white, landowning males, nevertheless was voluntarily exercised so as to create a limited government. When the Constitution was ratified by voters in the states — in numerous conventions, town meetings and political gatherings — it literally consisted of liberty giving power. This was Madison’s inversion.

Rap Group That Chanted ‘Death To The IDF’ Gets Surprise From Trump State Department

The State Department announced Monday that it revoked visas for a British rap group after it called for the death of Israeli soldiers onstage over the weekend.

Members of the Bob Vylan band no longer can travel to the U.S. “in light of their hateful tirade … including leading the crowd in death chants” at a Saturday music festival in the U.K., Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau said in a Monday X post. The State Department’s action aligns with the Trump administration’s policy of renewed scrutiny of foreigners’ visas over alleged hostility toward American values or national security.

“Foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country,” Landau said.

Bob Vylan did not respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation. The group was scheduled to perform in the U.S. during a music tour that begins in October, The Standard reported.

The band’s frontman, Pascal Robinson-Foster, led an audience in anti-Israel chants such as “death, death to the IDF” — referring to the Israel Defense Forces — at the Glastonbury Festival in Somerset, England on Saturday, the BBC reported.

The group’s performance sparked widespread backlash, and the festival said it was “appalled” in a Sunday statement.

“Their chants very much crossed a line and we are urgently reminding everyone involved in the production of the Festival that there is no place at Glastonbury for antisemitism, hate speech or incitement to violence,” the festival said.

Robinson-Foster called for “a change in foreign policy” in a Sunday Instagram post that seemed to address the controversy. “Let them see us marching in the streets, campaigning on the ground level, organising and shouting about it on any and every stage that we are offered,” he wrote.

The Justice Department today announced the results of its 2025 National Health Care Fraud Takedown, which resulted in criminal charges against 324 defendants, including 96 doctors, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and other licensed medical professionals, in 50 federal districts and 12 State Attorneys General’s Offices across the United States, for their alleged participation in various health care fraud schemes involving over $14.6 billion in intended loss. The Takedown involved federal and state law enforcement agencies across the country and represents an unprecedented effort to combat health care fraud schemes that exploit patients and taxpayers.

Demonstrating the significant return on investment that results from health care fraud enforcement efforts, the government seized over $245 million in cash, luxury vehicles, cryptocurrency, and other assets as part of the coordinated enforcement efforts. As part of the whole-of-government approach to combating health care fraud announced today, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) also announced that it successfully prevented over $4 billion from being paid in response to false and fraudulent claims and that it suspended or revoked the billing privileges of 205 providers in the months leading up to the Takedown. Civil charges against 20 defendants for $14.2 million in alleged fraud, as well as civil settlements with 106 defendants totaling $34.3 million, were also announced as part of the Takedown.

Today’s Takedown was led and coordinated by the Health Care Fraud Unit of the Department of Justice Criminal Division’s Fraud Section and its core partners from U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The cases were investigated by agents from HHS-OIG, FBI, DEA, and other federal and state law enforcement agencies. Days after death chants by musician ‘Bob Vylan’ were broadcast live by the BBC from the Glastonbury Festival in Somerset, England, the organs of state are slowly starting to respond, with concerns about offensive and potentially illegal content. State broadcaster the BBC has now acknowledged it shouldn’t have been aired at all, the broadcasting regulator says there are questions to be answered, and police are investigating whether a speech crime took place.

Given the ferocious response the government has been perceived to have made in response to other speech crimes in recent memory, warnings have inevitably been made about “two-tier justice”, the name given to a rising feeling among some in the United Kingdom that the law is applied unevenly to different groups depending on how favoured they are by the state. The Conservative Party’s Shadow Home Secretary — interior affairs spokesman — Chris Philp said it was his opinion that the law had been broken and, for the sake of consistency, arrests must take place.

He said: “It seems clear Vylan was inciting violence and hatred. They should be arrested and prosecuted – just like the Government insisted happen during the riots last summer. By broadcasting his vile hatred, the BBC appear to have also broken the law.”

Lawful For UK to Export F-35 Fighter Jet Parts to Israel, High Court Rules

The British high court has ruled against a case intended to prevent the country exporting F-35 parts which could have ended up in the hands of the Israeli Defence Force, saying it had never been a matter for the courts to rule on in the first place.

A legal battle launched in the months after the October 7 2023 attack on Israel to prevent weapon components made in the United Kingdom from potentially being exported to Israel has failed, the High Court in London finding this “acutely sensitive and political issue” is a matter for the democratically selected Parliament, not a court.

The United Kingdom is part of a multinational consortium that builds components for the Lockheed Martin F-35 and it is conceivable some of the parts made in Britain will end up in exported American planes in service with the IDF. As noted by The Guardian, a challenge by Global Legal Action Network and Al-Haq supported by Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and Oxfam had attempted to cut off the British contribution to the aircraft.
