Iran warns Ukraine of ‘consequences’ over recent comments

The Foreign Ministry has delivered a note of protest over Kiev’s support for US and Israeli military actions

Tehran has summoned Ukraine’s charge d’affaires and delivered a formal protest over remarks by Ukrainian officials in support of the recent US-Israeli attack on the country. The move was announced by Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Monday.

Earlier this month, Israel attacked Iran, claiming that Tehran was nearing completion of a nuclear bomb. Washington later also joined the bombing campaign. Iran denied the allegations and retaliated. The 12-day war ended in a US-brokered ceasefire last week, which has so far been observed.

In a statement on its official website, the ministry denounced what itcalled “unjustified comments made by some Ukrainian officials regarding the Zionist regime’s and American aggression against Iran.”

By supporting the military aggression of the Zionist regime, Ukrainian officials have in fact ignored Ukraine’s international legal obligations regarding respect for the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter and the four Geneva Conventions,” Shahram Farsai, the head of the First Eurasian Department, told the Ukrainian envoy. (All of these countries use the UN Charter as something that’s right about everything)

The Ukrainian diplomat reportedly assured Iranian officials that the protest would be conveyed to Kiev without delay.Iranian authorities warned of “consequences” if what they described as repeated “hostile and provocative actions”continued. (Iran is always threatening anyone that thinks they are terrorists)

The Iranian Foreign Ministry did not name specific Ukrainian officials or statements. However, during the 12-day war, Kiev officially condemned Iran’s June 23 missile strike on the US Al-Udeid air base in Qatar. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry claimed that Tehran was closely cooperating with Moscow and that they were jointly “destabilizing the Middle East and Europe.”(which is not true, Kiev is always lying and dragging Russia into things.)

In an interview with Sky News last week, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky also described Kiev’s relations with Tehran as “very complicated” and criticized Iran for supporting Russia. Zelensky expressed support for the US-Israeli strike campaign, calling it “a powerful and correct move.”

Iran and Moscow have repeatedly stressed that their growing cooperation is not aimed against third parties and is intended to ensure peace and stability and to maintain their independence and sovereignty.

Iran doesn’t believe in free speech. Why does Ukraine’s opinion of anything matter, Zelensky should fix his own country first before you interfere with others.

Oil tanker explodes off Libyan coast after calling at Russian ports – Bloomberg

No injuries or pollution have been reported in the incident so far

An oil tanker carrying around a million barrels of crude has exploded off the coast of Libya. No injuries or pollution have been reported, and the cause of the blast remains unclear.

The Marshall Islands-flagged tanker Vilamoura had departed Libya’s Zuetina port and was en route to Gibraltar when the explosion occurred on June 27, followed by flooding in the engine room that left the vessel adrift, a spokesperson for operator TMS Tankers told the media on Monday.

It is the latest in a string of unexplained blasts involving oil tankers that had recently visited Russian ports, Bloomberg noted. According to vessel-tracking data, the Vilamoura called at Russia’s Ust-Luga oil terminal in early April and the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) facility near Novorossiysk in May – both of which primarily handle Kazakh-origin barrels.

Four other tankers have suffered similar fates since the start of the year, all of which had previously called at Russian oil ports, maritime risk consultancy Vanguard Tech told Bloomberg.

The incidents come amid heightened scrutiny of maritime traffic linked to Russia, as Western sanctions on Moscow’s oil exports have reshaped global shipping routes. The EU and US have accused Russia and its trading partners of using a ‘shadow fleet’ of tankers operating outside Western insurance rules to bypass the sanctions. Russia has repeatedly denounced the restrictions against its shipping sector as illegal.

In response to the blasts, some shipowners have reportedly begun inspecting hulls for possible mines using divers and underwater vehicles.

Bloomberg noted that Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Russia’s energy infrastructure – including oil depots and a gas metering station – since the escalation of the conflict with Moscow. In February, Ukrainian drones struck the Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station in southern Russia, operated by the Caspian Pipeline Consortium. The CPC serves as a key export route, handling around 80% of Kazakhstan’s crude on the global market. Moscow has condemned the attacks as violations of Ukraine’s ceasefire commitments, and accused Kiev of attempting to derail US peace efforts.

Built in 2011, the Vilamoura has a carrying capacity of 158,622 tons. It is now under tow in the eastern Mediterranean en route to Greece, according to VesselFinder, where the damage is expected to be assessed.

Compulsory work for refugees introduced in EU country

Under the new scheme in Austria’s Burgenland, asylum seekers who refuse to work will face welfare benefit cuts

Burgenland state in Austria has introduced a scheme requiring asylum seekers to work for their host municipalities. Those who repeatedly refuse will see their welfare benefits cut to the bare minimum.

Speaking last Wednesday, State Councilor Daniela Winkler from the Social Democratic Party (SPO) explained that “migration must be financially and socially viable,” adding that the measures are meant to reflect “fairness towards the population.”

The ‘Burgenland Model’, approved by the regional legislature in December 2024, is set to launch on July 1.

Winkler argued that as asylum seekers “become committed contributors to the community… prejudices disappear, and integration becomes a tangible experience.”

According to the official, “the structured daily routine provides asylum seekers with stability and meaning during a period of uncertainty.”

The local authorities have estimated thatthere are around 130 asylum seekers of working age currently residing in Burgenland, who appear to be eligible for the ‘model.’

The scheme envisages asylum seekers being deployed to areas where additional hands are most needed, depending on the locality.

“It’s not about symbolic employment, but rather real, everyday tasks,” Winkler clarified.

According to a statement on the SPO’s website, eligible jobs include landscape and winter maintenance, cleaning, delivery services, and “simple auxiliary tasks” in nursing homes and libraries.

Refugees in caregiving roles will work up to 20 hours weekly, while other community service roles require up to 30 hours. They will be paid €1.60 per hour ($1.90)

Those who have repeatedly refused to participate in the scheme without a valid reason will have their welfare payments and services slashed. However, asylum seekers will retain access to basic accommodation, food, and medical care under all circumstances.

The Burgenland state councilor clarifiedthat an asylum seeker who refuses to perform compulsory social services can, for instance, expect to be removed from a state-provided apartment, and given simply a “place to sleep” instead.

On Wednesday, the head of the regional SPO chapter, Roland Furst, also stated thatBurgenland has put a cap of 330 people on asylum seeker admittance per year. He also called for asylum and deportation procedures to be sped up.

According to official statistics, Burgenland’s population stood at 301,790 as of January 1, 2025.

Carinthia, another Austrian state, is reportedly developing a similar mandatory employment scheme for asylum seekers.
