A new object has been catalogued (2025-089C / NORAD 64627) that seems to have separated from the Russian inspector satellite Cosmos-2558 (2022-089A / NORAD 53323). Cosmos-2558, launched in August 2022, has been co-planar with USA 326 and presumably making long-distance observations of it.
Two earlier satellites of the same type (Cosmos-2519 and 2542) also released subsatellites (designated Cosmos-2521 and 2543). Both of those subsatellites showed
significant manoeuvering capability and each fired a high-speed projectile that was interpreted by the Pentagon as an anti-satellite weapon. This happened when they were flying in the vicinity of other Russian satellites.

No details are known. The contract requirements for this launch call for a 512 km orbit of 97.4° inclination sun-synchroneous orbit. It has been speculated, that it might be a next generation electro-optical reconnaissance satellite.
