Well if we take Old Testament passages literally the Israelites were also told not to mix with outside 'tribes' as they would introduce their ways (and other gods) and instruct their children in them leading to the fall of God's people. Unfortunately over time they usually forgot this and fell before being lifted back up again. So in short by that reasoning the Bible tells us not to let in foreigners.
