Republican Opposes Trump's Tax Bill, Compares It To Titanic (FAFO Massie)

By Kate Plummer

Republican Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky risks losing his seat in Congress amid his battles with President Donald Trump, according to a new poll.

Polling from Kaplan Strategies found thatMassie was unpopular among Republican voters and would lose more support if Trump endorsed a primary opponent.

Why It Matters

Massie has gained notoriety in recent weeks following a series of skirmishes with Trump. The Kentucky lawmaker has voiced his opposition to the president's "big, beautiful" spending bill and has criticized Trump over his decision to strike Iran.

In response, Trump has denounced Massie, prompting the president's allies to launch a super PAC to oust the representative, who has held his seat since 2012.

What To Know

The poll of 368 likely GOP primary voters found that 19 percent said they planned to vote for Massie in the 2026 Republican primary. If Trump endorsed a primary opponent, the proportion of people voting for Massie would drop to 14 percent.

The poll also showed that 23 percent of respondents viewed the representative favorably, while 62 percent viewed him unfavorably.

In terms of his arguments with Trump, 72 percent said they were less likely to vote for Massie because of his opposition to Trump's tax cuts and budget, while 58 percent said they were less likely to vote for him over his opposition to Trump's Israel policy.

The poll was conducted between June 23 and June 24, and its margin of error was plus or minus 5.1 percent.

What People Are Saying

President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social on June 24: "Third Rate Congressman Thomas Massie, of the Great Commonwealth of Kentucky, a phenomenal State that I won all three times (by a lot!), keeps talking about how he is going to protect the Constitution, but he is actually very bad for the Constitution, and will probably vote against 'THE GREAT, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL,' that grants the Biggest Tax Cuts in History, secures our Southern Border from Criminal Invasion, funds the Golden Dome, our Great Military and Veterans, protects our Second Amendment, grants NO TAX ON TIPS, NO TAX ON OVERTIME, and NO TAX ON SOCIAL SECURITY (for our Great Seniors!), and so much more."

In response to the president's post, Republican Representative Thomas Massie wrote on X, formerly Twitter: "@realDonaldTrump declared so much War on me today it should require an Act of Congress. #sassywithmassie."

What Happens Next

The general election for Massie's congressional seat is scheduled forNovember 3, 2026. The Kentucky representative has one declared primary challenger:Nicole Lee Ethington, a registered nurse.

Republican Niki Lee Ethington files for congress: A new voice for Kentucky’s 4th District

• Press Release May 22, 2025

SPENCER COUNTY — Conservative Republican and longtime registered nurse Niki Lee Ethington has officially filed to run for U.S. Congress in Kentucky’s 4th District.Running on a bold America First agenda, Ethington is challenging incumbent Rep. Thomas Massie, vowing to fight for Kentucky’s working families, secure the border, defend parental rights, and push back against the radical left’s assault on American values.

In addition to her nursing career, Ethington has additional studies in Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, and Human Services, equipping her with real-world experience and a deep understanding of public safety, healthcare, and family policy.

“Our district deserves bold leadership, not a congressman who votes against the people,” Ethington said.“Massie voted twice this year to continue taxing your tips and overtime.(Feb. 25 & Apr. 10, 2025). I supported the federal budget bill that eliminated those taxes, and thankfully, it passed the House without him.”

Ethington’s campaign focuses on fiscal responsibility, defending family values, and protecting the American worker. She supports real tax relief, strong border enforcement, election integrity, and law enforcement funding. She’s also committed to improving infrastructure, especially in flood-prone and aging communities across the district, including Spencer County.

As a nurse, she is a vocal advocate for safer nurse-patient ratios, ending workplace violence, and protecting both teachers and healthcare workers. She also champions accessible healthcare without mandates or government overreach, and firmly opposes the spread of woke ideology in schools.

A defender of the First and Second Amendments, Ethington proudly supports President Trump’s America First platform and has pledged to protect women and girls’ sports from biological males.

“I’m a true conservative Republican, not a libertarian hitching a ride on our party’s name,” Ethington said. “I’m one of you. I’ve lived the struggle. And I’ll never back down from fighting for Kentucky families.”

==Already seeing posts critical of the "cages" at Alligator Alcatraz.

But Alligator Alcatraz looks significantly more comfortable than the outdoor detainment facilities the Biden admin put up in Ajo, AZ in September 2023 in 100+ degree heat. Most would prefer a bed over rocks==.

House Judiciary Committee subpoenas Penn, Brown in price-fixing probe

Chair Jim Jordan seeks a host of documents regarding tuition pricing and communications around college rankings.

The House Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena Tuesday to the University of Pennsylvania and Brown University as part of its probe into alleged tuition coordination among Ivy League universities.

It’s the latest chapter in the GOP’s war on elite institutions of higher education, which the party has long argued have shifted too far to the left. The subpoenas, first reported by POLITICO,ask for a host of documents concerning the schools’ tuition pricing practices and communications among peer institutions.

The House Judiciary Committee is also requesting documents relating to theircommunications around college rankings.

The committee has jurisdiction toinvestigate “whether existing civil and criminal penalties and current antitrust law enforcement efforts are sufficient to deter anticompetitive practicesamong higher education institutions,” wrote House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan and its antitrust subcommittee Chair Scott Fitzgerald.

“The documents requested by the Committee will inform theHouse’s consideration of these legislative reforms.”

The committee issued a subpoena to Harvard last week as part of its investigationinto alleged tuition pricing collusion. It has argued that their cooperation with lawmakers’ requests for information has been insufficient.

The Trump administration is waging its own battle against elite universities, most notably Harvard. On Monday, it announced it found Harvard violated civil rights law in its treatment of Jewish and Israeli students.
