ChiCom Front Company Huawei to Stand Trial in the U.S. for Bank Fraud, Sanctions Violations, and Theft

Chinese company Huawei Technologies will stand trial on multiple charges after a federal judge denied its bid to dismiss a long-running case against it.

On July 1, District Judge Ann Donnelly of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York ruled that there was sufficient evidence to proceed with a 16-count indictment against Huawei and its subsidiaries.

Huawei, which is closely tied to the Chinese communist regime, stands accused of racketeering, stealing trade secrets from six U.S. companies, and committing bank fraud.

With Donnelly’s ruling, the case will move forward toward trial. Currently, the proceedings are scheduled to begin on May 4, 2026.

Huawei stands charged with using a Hong Kong-based front company, Skycom, to conduct business in Iran in violation of U.S. sanctions and with misleading banks in order to facilitate more than $100 million in illegal money transfers.

Additionally, the indictment alleges that Huawei engaged in racketeering to expand its global brand.

Representatives of Huawei did not respond to a request for comment from The Epoch Times by publication time.

In November 2024, Huawei pleaded not guilty and called itself “a prosecutorial target in search of a crime.”

The upcoming trial is expected to last several months and could have significant implications for the ongoing tensions between the United States and China over technology, trade, and national security.

As part of the long-running federal investigation into Huawei’s business dealings, Huawei’s chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, also the daughter of the company’s founder, Ren Zhengfei, was previously charged and detained in Canada for nearly three years before the charges against her were dismissed in 2022 as part of a deferred prosecution agreement.

Huawei, based in Shenzhen, China, operates in more than 170 countries and employs approximately 208,000 people worldwide. The U.S. government has imposed restrictions on Huawei’s access to U.S. technology since 2019, citing national security concerns; Huawei has denied those accusations.

Along with manufacturing smartphones and consumer technology, Huawei is emerging as a manufacturer of advanced processing chips essential to the development of artificial intelligence.

The Epoch Times reported in June that the race to develop cutting-edge artificial intelligence and the hardware that powers it is tantamount to an arms race between the United States and the Chinese regime.

In June, Taiwan, a leader in the world of semiconductor manufacturing, imposed new export restrictions on Huawei, citing “national security concerns.” The move brings Taiwan’s priorities more in line with the U.S. policy aimed at denying communist China access to cutting-edge technology that could be used to further its military ambitions

The EU Ministry of Truth Moves to Censor the World

Today, the EU moved toward strengthening online censorship, transforming the “Code of Conduct on Disinformation” into a mandatory part of the Digital Services Act. It threatens speech worldwide.

The deal establishing the Digital Services Act was first struck in 2022. The EU Commission claims it will ensure that online platforms are held responsible for tackling harmful content. The DSA, which will combine with legislation in individual countries, is meant to be a huge threat. It will give rise to a fully-fledged Ministry of Truth.

The EU plans to allegedly tame the Internet “Wild West”.

On July 1, 2025, the European Union’s Code of Conduct on Disinformation became mandatory instead of voluntary. It was originally thought to be a voluntary effort by tech companies to clean up their platforms and it is now an official requirement under the EU censorship law, the Digital Services Act (DSA).

The biggest online platforms and search engines will need to meet strict transparency standards, undergo audits, and show that they can keep what Brussels calls “disinformation” in check.

The regulators will breathe down their necks.

Additionally, the EU is expanding its censorship apparatus beyond major platforms. They are boing to go after alternative media and independent creators.

These audits are supposed to assess how well companies manage the risks linked to disinformation. They get to decide what is or isn’t disinformation.

The Commission made sure to clarify that while signing the Code is technically voluntary, meeting the Code’s standards is expected. A spokesperson explained, “Compliance with the Code is voluntary. Compliance with the DSA is not.”

They try to pass this censorship off as protecting children, but it’s just another tactic to extort money and silence critics.

President Trump didn’t tolerate this from Canada and he won’t tolerate it from the EU

Obama helped lead the US shadow diplomacy corps that pushed Europe’s Orwellian new censorship law (the EU DSA) and Obama’s NGO arm, the Obama Foundation, added a focus on “combatting disinformation” https://t.co/DT1ShvHL4W

Putin-Trump meeting necessary – Kremlin

Both the Russian and US presidents are prepared to hold a summit but it has to be well prepared, according to spokesman Dmitry Peskov

A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump is necessary but has to be well prepared, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Friday.

His comments came after the two leaders held their sixth phone call the day before. According to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, during their nearly one-hour long conversation, Trump and Putin discussed a wide range of issues, including the Ukraine conflict, the situation in the Middle East, and Russia-US cooperation.

Asked to comment on plans to hold an in-person summit of the two presidents, Peskov stated that both sides acknowledge that such a meeting is “necessary” and that there is readiness on both sides to make it happen.

Peskov recalled, however, that both leaders have repeatedly stressed that such a meeting would require extensive preparations.

The Kremlin had previously stated on multiple occasions that the timing of a Putin-Trump summit depends on Washington’s own initiative and has insisted that such a meeting would have to be “result-oriented.”

Trump described Thursday’s phone call as “pretty long,” and stated that the two leaders talked about “a lot of things, including Iran.” However, the US president expressed frustration that he “didn’t make any progress” with Putin over the Ukraine conflict and the establishment of a ceasefire.

The Kremlin has since confirmed that the US president urged Putin to cease hostilities as soon as possible, while the latter reaffirmed Moscow’s readiness to negotiate.

According to Ushakov, Putin stressed that Russia intends to achieve the primary goals of its military operation, which is “the elimination of the well-known root causes that led to the current state of affairs.” Russia “will not back down from these goals,” the presidential aide said.

Lavrov sends Rubio Independence Day greetings

Moscow hopes to improve bilateral relations based on mutual respect, the Russian foreign minister has said

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has sent his best wishes to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the American people for Independence Day, which is celebrated on Friday.

In a message released by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov expressed support for US unity and the American Dream, while expressing hope for improved ties between the two nations.

”I expect that together we can put the relations between our nations on a creative vector, make them stable and predictable based on mutual respect for national interests determined by history, geography, and ‘realities on the ground,’” he said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his best wishes to US President Donald Trump in a phone call the previous day. According to presidential aide Yury Ushakov, Putin wished Trump success in advancing major reforms and noted Russia’s historical contribution to America’s struggle for independence from Britain.

Moscow has expressed a more favorable view of the Trump administration compared to the previous administration of Joe Biden – who set the strategic defeat of Russia as a core objective of his foreign policy and pledged military support to Ukraine “for as long as it takes” to achieve victory in the conflict with Russia.

Trump has criticized Biden’s approach as costly and harmful to US interests. His administration has resumed high-level talks with Moscow and is working toward mediating an end to the Ukraine conflict, with a stated goal of fostering future economic cooperation.

While expressing optimism about Trump’s intentions, Russia has criticized some of his recent actions. Last month, Trump ordered a military operation against Iran in support of Israel’s effort to dismantle the Iranian nuclear program – which Moscow condemned as unlawful and highly destabilizing for global security.

Orban accuses Ukraine of election meddling through ‘secret operations’

Kiev is trying to install a pro-Ukrainian government in Budapest to lift Hungary’s veto on its EU bid, the prime minister has claimed

Ukraine has launched secret intelligence operations in Hungary to influence the upcoming 2026 parliamentary elections, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has claimed.

In an interview on Kossuth Radio on Friday, Orban accused Kiev of trying to bring a pro-Ukrainian government to power in Budapest to clear the way for the country’s EU membership, which his government opposes.

Ukraine formally applied to join the EU in 2022. Brussels backed the bid, granted Kiev candidate status, and set a membership target of 2030. Orban warned the move would drag the bloc into direct conflict with Russia and burden taxpayers with decades of military aid. Last week, he vetoed an EU Council statement on Ukraine, thus blocking accession talks. He cited public opposition in the Voks 2025 referendum, where over two million Hungarians – 95% of voters – rejected Ukraine’s EU bid. Because unanimous approval is required for EU accession, talks cannot proceed unless Hungary changes course.

“They are continuously carrying out secret operations in Hungary,” Orban said, referring to the Kiev regime. “There is very active Ukrainian intelligence service activity, not only through exerting pressure on politicians, but also on the intellectual world, the thought-forming circles and the media.”

Orban said the goal of these efforts is “to create another major party” to win the 2026 parliamentary election and implement decisions made by “Brussels bureaucrats,” including on Ukraine’s accession.

“It’s happening, and not just from Ukraine’s side, by the way – there’s this shadowy, dark underbelly of international politics… the bureaucrats are using large amounts of money in Hungary to influence politics,” he added.

He pointed to the opposition center-right Tisza Party, which he claimed was “manufactured” by Brussels to help Ukraine join the EU by winning the elections. The party recently conducted an unofficial survey on Ukrainian membership, saying that 58% of 1.1 million respondents expressed approval for the notion. Although Tisza leader Peter Magyar earlier said Ukraine doesn’t yet meet EU accession criteria, he indicated his party would support negotiations if it wins the elections next year.

Orban, however, argued that if the EU accepts Ukraine it “also accepts war,” which he said “will ruin our economy.” Orban added that if other EU nations held referendums, “in every single country people would say no [to Ukraine membership] exactly like they did in Hungary.”

Moscow had previously called Ukraine’s EU aspirations its “sovereign right” if the bloc stayed focused on economics. However, with Brussels ramping up military spending, Russian officials have grown critical. Security Council Deputy Chairman and former President Dmitry Medvedev said last week the EU had become “a politicized, globalist, and fiercely Russophobic organization” and warned that Ukraine’s membership in the bloc would now be “a danger to our country.”
