The ADL and other Jewish advocacy groups are going after President Trump after he referred to certain bankers as “shylocks.”
The term comes from Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, where Shylock is portrayed as a greedy Jewish moneylender.
Trump claimed these bankers “took away a lot of family and destroyed a lot of families,” but said “we did the opposite.”
He later clarified that to him, a “shylock” simply means a high-interest money lender.
