Limestone County man arrested for raping child under the age of 10
LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WAFF) - A Limestone County man was arrested for raping a child under the age of 10, according to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.
On July 3, officials with the Limestone County Department of Human Resources (DHR) and the Limestone Child Advocacy Center reported to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office that a child under the age of 10 had been raped.
Following an immediate investigation, authorities identified Juan Castro Hernandez, a 29-year-old man from Guatemala, as the suspect. Witnesses informed investigators that Hernandez had been in possession of firearms and had pointed weapons at individuals, including children.
The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and SWAT team responded to Piney Chapel Road, where Hernandez was located outside a home. Authorities said after Hernandez attempted to flee, he was quickly caught by deputies.
A search warrant was executed at the home, and probable cause was established to arrest Hernandez for First Degree Rape.
Hernandez was booked into the Limestone County Jail.
An Aniah’s Law hearing will be scheduled to determine whether bond will be granted. Authorities said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been notified due to Hernandez’s immigration status.
Records indicate Hernandez was previously arrested in 2022 for DUI and possession of methamphetamine.
Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin expressed his gratitude for the authorities who arrested Hernandez and are working to keep children in the community safe.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to the exceptional teamwork displayed by our investigators, the Children’s Advocacy Center, and DHR. Their dedication, professionalism, and relentless pursuit of justice were instrumental in safeguarding the most vulnerable members of our community,” Sheriff McLaughlin said.
“This collaborative effort exemplifies the very essence of community service and serves as a testament to the power of unity in achieving a common goal.”
