1 in 4 Youth have a mental health diagnosis & many are prescribed an SSRI Antidepressant. Despite their increasing prevalence, there is the unintended outcomes of SSRIs – with one area of concern being aggression & violence.
A systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) found an almost three-fold increase of serious aggression outcomes in child & adolescent antidepressant users.
The very 1st SSRI was synthesized in 1971. Zimelidine (brand names Normud & Zelmid) was the 1st historical selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant to be marketed. It caused depression to spiral into suicidality, violent thoughts & Guillain Barre Syndrome.
Spanning 54 years of SSRI development, in 2025 the newest SSRI is targeted towards mothers experiencing postpartum depression with the antidepressant Zuranolone (Zurzuvae). This SSRI causes grave side effects & worsening of violent thought symptoms.
