Jeff Bezos sells $666 million in Amazon stock as part of plan to unload 25 million shares

million over two days in July, a regulatory filing Tuesday showed.

The stock sale is part of a plan announced earlier this year that will see Bezos unload up to 25 million shares of Amazon through May 2026.

Bezos, who stepped down as Amazon CEO in 2021, sold $736.7 million in stock during the final days of June. He still has more than 900 million shares of Amazon, valued at close to $200 billion.

The latest stock sale comes shortly after Bezos’ $50 million high-profile wedding to Lauren Sanchez in Venice with a star-studded list of celebrity guests, including: Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, several Kardashians and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Another Macron critic found dead in France

The body of Olivier Marleix, a French conservative lawmaker, has been found at home in a suspected suicide

A senior French lawmaker known for his staunch criticism of President Emmanuel Macron has been found dead at his home in what authorities say was a suicide.

Olivier Marleix, a 54-year-old MP with the conservative Les Republicains party and longtime member of the National Assembly, was discovered hanged in an upstairs room at his residence in Anet, Eure-et-Loir, on Monday afternoon, according to the local prosecutor.

“At this stage, the involvement of a third party can be ruled out, making suicide the most likely cause,” public prosecutor Frederic Chevallier told AFP. An autopsy was reportedly scheduled for July 9.

Marleix, a longtime MP and former leader of the Les Republicains group in parliament, played a central role in inquiries into France’s industrial policy. He repeatedly accused Macron of mishandling the 2014 sale of French firm Alstom’s energy arm – a key supplier of turbines for nuclear plants – to US giant General Electric.

He also argued that Macron – then deputy secretary-general at the Elysee Palace – had overridden his superior at the time, Economy Minister Arnaud Montebourg, and later approved the controversial sale without proper oversight. In a letter to the prosecutor at the time, Marleix denounced what he described as a “corruption pact,” claiming that individuals with financial stakes in deals involving Alstom, Alcatel, Technip, and STX, later appeared as donors or organizers for Macron’s 2017 presidential campaign. Although the judiciary dismissed the accusations, Marleix continued to speak out publicly.

The son of former minister Alain Marleix, he was a vocal opponent of any alliance with the right-wing National Rally party (RN), despite narrowly retaining his seat in 2024 in a runoff against an RN candidate.

It follows another recent high-profile death that has stirred public speculation in France. On June 29, a 58-year-old plastic surgeon linked to Macron’s wife, Brigitte, was found dead after falling from a window in Paris. Medical examiners declared that Francois Fevre, who had reportedly promised to reveal details about alleged gender-related surgeries involving the First Lady, committed suicide. His sister disputed the finding, suggesting his death may have been connected to the interview he was due to give. The Macrons have faced persistent speculation over Brigitte’s gender – claims they have repeatedly denied and taken legal action against.

News of Marleix’s death drew swift reactions across the political spectrum. In a statement, Macron called him “an experienced politician” and said he respected their differences, as they stemmed from a “shared love” for the country.

Oh la la… Putin drops truth bomb on Macron

For his part, Putin rebuffed the trite talk. He reminded Macron of some necessary reality.

NATO started the conflict in Ukraine, but Russia will end it on its terms, Russian President Vladimir Putin told his French counterpart this week in a wake-up call.

It’s always refreshing and necessary to bring reality into a conversation, assuming, of course, that the purpose of the dialogue is genuinely to resolve a problem.

France’s Emmanuel Macron requested the phone call with Putin this week. It was the first time the two leaders had spoken in nearly three years. The long absence was due to Moscow claiming that Macron breached diplomatic protocol after the last phone call in 2022 by leaking details to the media.

In any case, Putin showed magnanimity and a willingness to engage diplomatically by taking the call this week from Macron. The two leaders talked for over two hours.

Apart from Ukraine, another topic discussed was the outbreak of war between Israel and Iran, and the U.S. bombing of Iran’s nuclear sites. Macron agreed with Putin that Iran has the right to pursue civilian nuclear energy production, and both appealed for diplomacy to prevent escalation, according to the Kremlin’s statement on the phone conversation.

Critics might note, however, that France, Britain, Germany, and the other European states have played a double game with Iran, undermining Iran’s legitimate rights under the Non-Proliferation Treaty and giving political cover for the unlawful Israeli and US aggression against Tehran. Therefore, Macron’s concern for peace in the Middle East sounds hollow, if not hypocritical.

The Ukraine conflict was also discussed. But here, there was no pretense of diplomatic accord.

Macron urged Putin to “call a ceasefire as soon as possible” and to proceed with peace talks, said the Elysee Palace, as reported by French media.

For his part, Putin rebuffed the trite talk. He reminded Macron of some necessary reality.

According to the Kremlin’s statement: “When discussing the situation surrounding Ukraine, Vladimir Putin reiterated that the conflict was a direct consequence of the policies pursued by the Western countries, which had for years been ignoring Russia’s security interests, creating an anti-Russia staging ground in the country, and condoning violations of rights of Ukraine’s Russian-speaking citizens, and at present were pursuing a policy of prolonging hostilities by supplying the Kiev regime with a variety of modern weaponry. Speaking about the prospects of a peaceful settlement, the president of Russia has confirmed Moscow’s stance on possible agreements: they are to be comprehensive and long-term, provide for the elimination of the root causes of the Ukraine crisis, and be based on the new territorial realities.”

In other words, Russia will end the conflict that Macron and other NATO powers started illegally, and the ending of it will be on Russia’s terms.

Who does Macron think he is? Telling Russia to call a ceasefire as soon as possible? Earlier this year, in March, Macron gave a televised nationwide address declaring Russia to be an existential threat to Europe. He even made the madcap suggestion of France using its nuclear weapons to protect all of Europe. Such crazed talk by Macron is irresponsible and reprehensible.

Macron, along with Britain’s Starmer and Germany’s Merz, are prolonging the more-than-three-year war in Ukraine by pledging more military aid to the NeoNazi Kiev regime.

Syria's Sharaa Met With Top Israeli Officials In 'Quiet' Normalization Effort: Reports

A Syrian newspaper as well as several Israeli media sources are reporting that Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who previously went by Abu Mohammad al-Jolani and is the founder of Syrian al-Qaeda, has met with Israel's National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

While the reports remain unconfirmed by Damascus, The Jerusalem Post says that this was not "the first such meeting" to take place, citing a Syrian source. But Israel quickly denied the reports: "Israel issued a statement denying the claim, noting that Hanegbi is in Washington as part of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s delegation visiting the US."

The sources are calling the alleged meeting "a significant step in the Syrian‑Israeli negotiations" as part of potentially moving closer to achieving normalization base on the Abraham Accords.

This could also be part of publicly known efforts to advance "quiet" talk with Israel in order to reach a security status quo. At the moment Israel's military still occupies a large portion of southern Syria, going well beyond the Golan Heights.

Israel's YNet writes that "The expected agreement could include security guarantees, a pledge to counter terrorist activity, measures to curb Iranian influence, and a restriction of terror operatives near the border."

"According to foreign reports, Israel has already used Syrian airspace to strike Iranian targets—suggesting informal coordination between the two nations, even if not official," the outlet adds.

Damascus has continued to claim busting up 'Iranian terror' cells in various parts of the country. It is not expected to prioritize counter-ISIS operations given that many of the Sharaa/HTS government's own members are ISIS or former ISIS.

The prior Assad government had lone been Israel's most formidable regional enemy, given it possessed Russian anti-aircraft systems and hosted Iranian forces. Israel, for its part, was part of the West's covert war to oust Assad.

The timing of these reported Sharaa meetings with top Israeli officials is interesting given that it was only on Monday that the US formally lifted the longtime terror designation against his group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

New 'Mind-Reading' AI Predicts What Humans Will Do Next

An artificial intelligence system can now predict your next move before you make it. We’re not just talking about whether you’ll click “buy now” on that Amazon cart, but rather how you’ll navigate complex decisions, learn new skills, or explore uncharted territory.

Researchers have developed an AI called Centaur that accurately predicts human behavior across virtually any psychological experiment. It even outperforms the specialized computer models scientists have been using for decades. Trained on data from more than 60,000 people making over 10 million decisions, Centaur captures the underlying patterns of how we think, learn, and make choices.

“The human mind is remarkably general,” the researchers write in their paper, published in Nature. “Not only do we routinely make mundane decisions, such as choosing a breakfast cereal or selecting an outfit, but we also tackle complex challenges, such as figuring out how to cure cancer or explore outer space.”

An AI that truly understands human cognition could revolutionize marketing, education, mental health treatment, and product design. But it also raises uncomfortable questions about privacy and manipulation when our digital footprints reveal more about us than ever before.

How Scientists Built a Digital Mind Reader AI

The research team started with an ambitious goal: create a single AI model that could predict human behavior in any psychological experiment. Their approach was surprisingly straightforward but required massive scale.

Scientists assembled a dataset called Psych-101 containing 160 experiments covering memory tests, learning games, risk-taking scenarios, and moral dilemmas. Each experiment was converted into plain English descriptions that an AI could understand.

Rather than building from scratch, researchers took Meta’s Llama 3.1 language model (the same type powering ChatGPT) and gave it specialized training on human behavior. They used a technique that allows them to modify only a tiny fraction of the AI’s programming while keeping most of it unchanged. The entire training process took only five days on a high-end computer processor.

Centaur Dominates Traditional Cognitive Models

When tested, Centaur completely crushed the competition. In head-to-head comparisons with specialized cognitive models that scientists spent decades perfecting, Centaur won in almost every single experiment.

The real breakthrough came when researchers tested Centaur on completely new scenarios. The AI successfully predicted human behavior even when the experiment’s story changed (turning a space treasure hunt into a magic carpet adventure), when the structure was modified (adding a third option to a two-choice task), and when entirely new domains were introduced (logical reasoning tests that weren’t in its training data).

Centaur could also generate realistic human-like behavior when running simulations. In one test involving exploration strategies, the AI achieved performance comparable to actual human participants and showed the same type of uncertainty-guided decision-making that characterizes how people behave.

Mossad wants more war

'Time has run out': Netanyahu should not return from Washington without a hostage deal

Fifty hostages remain in Hamas captivity in Gaza, and no regional win can overshadow that. If there is, do not leave Washington and Doha without it.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew to the US earlier this week as reports – and statements by President Donald Trump – indicated that a Gaza hostage and ceasefire deal may happen this week. Any option that isn’t a deal is inexcusable.

An Israeli delegation set out for Doha, Qatar, for negotiations on talks as well, but there were reports of possible plans for the Gaza Strip, including moving hundreds of thousands of civilians. The photos were taken, hands were shaken, and the reports started to change. But the excuses have run out.

On Tuesday at press time, a senior political official said that efforts are ongoing and a deal could be reached within a few days. The differences between the stances of Israel and Hamas were said to be small, so negotiations remain in progress.

JPost Videos

The official noted that, from Israel’s perspective, a key component of the deal must involve stripping Hamas of its authority to control the distribution of humanitarian aid.

Local gangs have cropped up in Gaza to try to wrestle the aid back from Hamas and get it to the starving population, per reports.

Sources close to the negotiations said later on Monday that the aid distribution issue is high up on the priority list of negotiations, as talks progress in Doha. About 75% of the issue has been settled, a source said. US Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff is due in the Qatari capital later this week to join the negotiations in person.

Netanyahu’s position is that “the end means Gaza without Hamas,” the political official emphasized.

Prioritizing hostages over Hamas

Two separate polls, taken about two months ago, show that over half of the Israeli public supports a deal that prioritizes the hostages over the government’s stated “complete victory” over Hamas.

The first, conducted by the Kantar Institute, had 56% support for a deal to free all the hostages in exchange for ending the war, with 33% opposed, and the remainder undecided.

The second, conducted by the Israel Democracy Institute, found that nearly half (49%) do not believe that the release of the remaining 50 hostages can be secured while toppling Hamas. Slightly less (46%) said they “think or are certain” that it can.

When this question was asked by the pollsters in September 2024 and again four months later in January 2025, the results were slightly different. The accumulated findings show that the “share of those who favor bringing home the hostages as the most important goal has risen steadily, while the share who prioritize toppling Hamas has fallen.”

Notably, these were taken before Israel’s strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites in June.

At present, the rumored talks are of a 60-day truce for a series of hostage releases.

The goal of “destroying Hamas” is broad, flexible, and can be changed based on security and political needs. The hostages, on the other hand, are stuck in a deteriorating state of hell.
