See interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS zoom through solar system in new telescope imagery

July 9, 2025

he European Southern Observatory (ESO) has captured the clearest images yet of the interstellar visitor 3I/ATLAS as it moves inward through the solar system.

ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) snapped new images of the comet just two days after it was discovered, recording a timelapse as the object moved across the sky. The resulting stacked image is the deepest view yet of the interstellar intruder.

"These data were obtained with the FORS2 instrument on the VLT on the night of 3 July 2025," ESO officials wrote in a July 8 statement. The VLT timelapse shows the comet moving over the course of 13 minutes.

Comet 3I/ATLAS was discovered on July 1 by the Deep Random Survey remote telescope in Chile, part of the NASA-funded ATLAS (Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System) telescope, when the comet was about 410 million miles (670 million kilometers) away from the sun.

Originally designated C/2025 N1 (ATLAS), it was quickly confirmed to be an interstellar visitor due to its hyperbolic and highly eccentric orbit.

3I/ATLAS is only the third interstellar object detected visiting our solar system, after 1I’Oumuamua in 2017 and 2I/Borisov in 2019. (The 3I in the newfound object's name stands for "third interstellar.")

ESO says that better quality images of the comet will become available as it makes its way into the inner solar system.

The enigmatic object is expected to make its closest approach to Earth in late October 2025, but it won’t be visible to telescopes or astronomers at this point, as 3I/ATLAS will be hiding behind the sun.

"It will become observable again in December 2025, as it makes its way back to interstellar space," ESO stated.

ESO added that VLT and telescopes around the globe will continue to make observations of the fleeting celestial visitor, hoping to uncover clues about its structure, composition and origin.

What time is the full moon on July 10?

July 8, 2025

The July full moon 2025, also known as the Buck Moon, will rise on July 10, offering a spectacular lunar show for skywatchers worldwide.

The moon will reach full illumination at 4:37 p.m. EDT (2037 GMT), but this moment won't be visible everywhere. The best time to see the full moon depends on your local moonrise time.

For example, In New York City, the July full moon rises at 8:53 p.m. EDT on July 10, just 25 minutes after sunset at 8:28 p.m. In the northern mid-latitudes such as New York, Chicago, San Francisco, London, Paris or Tokyo, long summer days mean later sunsets and moonrises.

Here are the local moonrise times for the full moon on July 10, according to timeanddate.com.

Full moon rise times

Moonrise (local time)

New York, U.S.

8:53 p.m.

San Francisco, U.S.

9:02 p.m.

Honolulu, U.S.

7:42 p.m.

London U.K.

9:45 p.m.

Rome, Italy

9:02 p.m.

Cairo, Egypt

8:04 p.m.

If you miss the full moon on July 10, don't worry, the moon will still appear full the night before and the night after.

Best time to look for the full moon

The full moon will look particularly impressive an hour or two after it rises above the southern horizon. This is thanks to the moon illusion, a visual trick that makes the moon look much bigger when it's near the horizon than when it's high overhead.

In reality, the moon's size doesn't change at all. The illusion comes from how our brains interpret visual cues, especially when comparing the moon to nearby objects like trees or buildings.

When the moon is high in the sky, there's nothing next to it to provide a sense of scale, so it appears smaller than when it's low on the horizon and framed by familiar landmarks.

Saturn makes its long-awaited return to the late night sky this week: Here's how to see it

July 9, 2025

The coming week will see the gas giant Saturn return to the Northern Hemisphere's late night sky, after spending the last few months as a "morning star" rising in the predawn and early morning hours.

In recent months, Saturn put on a spectacular show for early risers, who witnessed the gas giant climb over the eastern horizon just ahead of sunrise, often in close proximity to Venus, Mercury and dimmer Neptune.

Each passing day saw Saturn rise approximately four minutes earlier than the previous night, steadily distancing itself from the dawn's light.

Saturn will make its triumphant return to the late night sky for those in the Northern Hemisphere over the next week.

New Yorkers will see the gas giant rise alongside the stars of the constellation Pisces at 11:57 p.m. EDT on July 9 (0357 GMT on July 10),

Remember: the exact times that a planet rises and sets will vary based on your location, so be sure to check a trusted website like in-the-sky.org for timings tailored to your locale.

Each successive night will see Saturn rise a few minutes earlier, making it increasingly visible in the evening sky.

By the time Saturn reaches opposition — the point when Earth is positioned between the ringed giant and the sun, providing excellent viewing conditions — on Sept. 21, it will rise just a few minutes after sunset and will be observable throughout the night.

Saturn will be a fixture in the evening sky until the middle of March 2026, when it will pass close to the sun from our perspective, rendering it temporarily lost from view.

Its emergence following the solar conjunction will herald its reappearance in the predawn sky, beginning the cycle anew.

Whilst Saturn is spectacular to view with the naked eye alone, a 6-inch telescope will help resolve the gas giant's iconic ring system, along with some of its larger moons.

A larger 8-inch scope will even let you make out the 2,980-mile (4,800 kilometers) gap in the iconic ring system known as the Cassini Division, when viewed under good seeing conditions with dark skies.

Stargazers interested in exploring the wonders of the night sky for themselves should check out our guides to the best telescopes for observing the planets of our solar system.

Cosmic Mystery Solved? Earth May Reside Within a Huge ‘Void’ in Space

July 9, 2025

University of Portsmouth scientists attempting to solve the cosmic mystery known as the Hubble Tension suggest that Earth may be located in a massive void in space, which would account for conflicting data related to the universe’s expansion.

The researchers behind the controversial proposal, which involves measuring sound waves created by the Big Bang, suggest that solving this cosmic mystery could impact research into theoretical dark matter and dark energy, in addition to helping confirm the universe’s age.

A Huge Void in Space Could Explain Hubble Tension

Decades after astronomer Edwin Hubble first proposed a formula to express the rate of expansion of the universe, which modern astronomers call the Hubble Constant, newer measurements of distant galaxies made by modern astronomical observatories found the data conflicted with Hubble’s calculations of the local region of space’s expansion. Known as the Hubble tension, these mismatched readings have created a cosmic mystery that scientists are still trying to unravel.

In the newly proposed theory, Dr Indranil Banik of the University of Portsmouth and colleagues suggest that a huge void surrounding the Milky Way and much of local space could cause a gravitational imbalance.

Under this scenario, the gravitational pull of the denser matter outside the void on the matter inside the void would look like a different expansion rate in local space.

“A potential solution to this inconsistency is that our galaxy is close to the centre of a large, local void,” Banik explained.

“It would cause matter to be pulled by gravity towards the higher density exterior of the void, leading to the void becoming emptier with time.”

According to Banik’s team’s theory, the velocity of objects “away from us” would exceed expected velocities if the void weren’t present.

If correct, the difference would give the false appearance of local space expanding faster than distant space.

Still, the team’s theory has particular constraints. For example, the entire solar system, including Earth, would need to be very near the center of the proposed huge void in space.

This lower-density region would need to have a radius of roughly one billion light years. Furthermore, the average matter density within the huge void in space would also have to be around 20% below the universe’s average.

The researchers note that “directly counting” the galaxies in this region of space does offer support for their concept, as the density of our local universe is lower than that of nearby space regions.

However, the researchers conceded that the mere existence of such a huge void in space would conflict with the standard model of cosmology, which predicts a much more spread-out matter density, resulting in an entirely new cosmic mystery.

New Data on Big Bang Sound Waves Offers New Support

To provide new support for their concept of a huge void in space, Banik and colleagues gathered data from the Planck satellite on baryon acoustic oscillations (BAOs). Described as the “sound of the Big Bang,” BAOs offer a unique window into past events.

“These sound waves traveled for only a short while before becoming frozen in place once the universe cooled enough for neutral atoms to form,” Banik explained. “They act as a standard ruler, whose angular size we can use to chart the cosmic expansion history.”

If the team’s theory is correct and the Earth and much of local space are at the center of a huge void in space, Banik says the evidence could be found in BAOs.

“A local void slightly distorts the relation between the BAO angular scale and the redshift because the velocities induced by a local void and its gravitational effect slightly increase the redshift on top of that due to cosmic expansion,” he explained.

The team examined the last 20 years of BAO measurements from galaxy surveys, analyzed alongside Planck satellite data, looking for such effects.

According to their published study, the analysis found overwhelming evidence for a model of local space that included their proposed void.

“By considering all available BAO measurements over the last 20 years, we showed that a void model is about one hundred million times more likely than a void-free model with parameters designed to fit the CMB observations taken by the Planck satellite, the so-called homogeneous Planck cosmology,” Banik said.

Redshift Comparison Could Provide Critical Evidence

Next, the research team plans to support their huge void model with different measurements.

One approach involves examining the light spectra of galaxies that have ceased forming stars to determine their star types and proportions.

This data allows astronomers to establish the age of a targeted galaxy.

According to the researchers, combining this cosmological chronometer data with galaxy redshift data reveals how much the light has been stretched over the eons before reaching Earth.

If their theory is correct, a variance should appear between redshift data distorted by local gravitational effects and other dating methods.

Dr. Banik says that although more work is needed, his team’s model offers a viable solution to a decades-old cosmic mystery.

“The Hubble tension is largely a local phenomenon, with little evidence that the expansion rate disagrees with expectations in the standard cosmology further back in time,” Banik said.

“So, a local solution like a local void is a promising way to go about solving the problem.”

Trump explains why he pulled Jared Isaacman's nomination for NASA chief

July 8, 2025

President Donald Trump has explained why he pulled the nomination of Jared Isaacman for NASA chief at the last minute.

Trump announced in December 2024 that he had chosen Isaacman, a billionaire tech entrepreneur and private astronaut, to lead the nation's space agency.

Isaacman sailed through the various nomination steps after Trump took office and was set to be confirmed by the Senate in early June.

But on May 31, the White House pulled the rug out, announcing that Isaacman was gone.

"It's essential that the next leader of NASA is in complete alignment with President Trump's America First agenda, and a replacement will be announced directly by President Trump soon," White House spokesperson Liz Huston said in an emailed statement on May 31.

Trump gave some specifics Sunday (July 6) on Truth Social, the social media network that he owns. He posted a lengthy rebuke of erstwhile supporter and ally Elon Musk, decrying the SpaceX chief's recently revealed plans to start a new political party.

Toward the end of that broadside, Trump addressed the NASA nomination situation, saying that Musk had requested that his "close friend" Isaacman be given the space agency's reins.

Trump wrote that, while he initially thought Isaacman "was very good," the president "was surprised to learn that he was a blue-blooded Democrat, who had never contributed to a Republican before."

"Elon probably was, also," the president added. "I also thought it inappropriate that a very close friend of Elon, who was in the Space Business, run NASA, when NASA is such a big part of Elon's corporate life."

Isaacman pushed back against these claims in a post Monday (July 7) on X, the social media site that Musk owns.

Isaacman — who funded and commanded two missions to Earth orbit that used SpaceX hardware — stressed that he knows Musk only in a professional capacity.

And he said that Trump mischaracterized his campaign contributions, which he made open and available throughout the nomination process.

"I have been relatively apolitical — a right-leaning moderate — and my political donations across both parties (though 10x more to Republicans) were disclosed in writing, with rationale, before my nomination was ever submitted to the Senate," Isaacman wrote.

The 42-year-old billionaire, who founded the payment-processing company Shift4, took the high road in his post, as he has done throughout the tortuous nomination process.

"Personally, I don't regret anything — it was an honor to even be considered by the President," Isaacman wrote. "I loved DC and my brief time in the arena.

The real disappointment is the time lost by Senators and staff who invested six months into a confirmation process that was ultimately withdrawn."

Since Trump's inaugauration on Jan. 20, NASA has been led by Acting Administrator Janet Petro. Trump has not yet named a replacement for Isaacman.

Donald Trump could be hit with drone in navel at Mar-a-Lago, Iran official issues chilling warning

9 Jul 2025, 07:02 PM IST

In a chilling televised address, senior Iranian official Javad Larijani warned that US President Donald Trump could be assassinated while relaxing at his Florida estate.

“Trump has done something that he can no longer sunbathe in Mar-a-Lago,” Larijani said on Iranian state television, according to a report by London-based Iran International.

“As he lies there with his stomach to the sun, a small drone might hit him in the navel. It’s very simple.”

Larijani, a close advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, underscoring the high-level nature of the threat.

Ongoing tensions

The assassination threats mark a new phase in the long-simmering US-Iran conflict, fueled by the 2020 killing of Qassem Soleimani.

Cleric declares Trump a 'Muharib'

Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi, a top figure in Shia Islamic jurisprudence, issued a statement previously that has been widely interpreted as a fatwa—a religious edict—against Trump.

“Any regime or individual threatening the leaders of the Islamic Ummah and acting on those threats qualifies as a Muharib,” he wrote, according to the Tehran Times.

Under Shia Islamic law, a Muharib is someone who spreads terror or disorder—punishable by death.

The declaration came in direct response to Trump's verbal attacks on Ayatollah Khamenei, following a deadly 12-day conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States earlier this year.

Trump: “I saved Khamenei”

During a speech in June, Trump made the stunning claim that during the conflict, he had the opportunity to assassinate Supreme Leader Khamenei—but chose not to.

Hardline Iranian media calls for Trump’s death

On April 5, 2025, Kayhan, a newspaper closely aligned with Iran’s Supreme Leader, published a column openly advocating for Trump's assassination.

“He’s way out of line! Any day now, in revenge for the blood of Martyr Soleimani, a few bullets are going to be fired into that empty skull of his and he’ll be drinking from the chalice of a cursed death,” the editorial read, according to a Fox News translation.

The threat followed Trump’s warning to Iran that “if they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing,” and his proposal to reintroduce secondary tariffs.

DOJ uncovers IRGC plot to kill Trump

In November 2024, the US Department of Justice revealed that Iranian agent Farhad Shakeri was charged with plotting to assassinate then President-elect Donald Trump.

According to DOJ filings, Shakeri was acting on behalf of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Two alleged co-conspirators, Eric Loadholt and James Rivera, were also arrested. The trio allegedly worked on US soil to locate and target Iranian dissidents and high-profile Americans.

The DOJ disclosed that on October 7, 2024, Shakeri received direct orders from the IRGC to “devise a plan targeting President-elect Donald Trump.”

He later claimed to federal agents that he had no intention of completing the plan within the IRGC’s timeline.

Two attempted assassinations in 2024

The US Secret Service has already thwarted two assassination attempts on Trump in less than a year:

On July 14, 2024, Trump was shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, suffering a minor injury to his ear. The assailant was killed by Secret Service agents after firing multiple rounds.

On September 16, 2024, Trump was the target again, this time while playing golf in Florida. Agents noticed a gunman with an AK-47-style rifle and opened fire.

The suspect escaped briefly but was later apprehended. According to Martin County Sheriff William Snyder, the man showed “no emotion” when stopped by officers.

Ukrainian terror plot targeting railway bridge foiled – FSB

9 Jul, 2025 13:58

A Ukrainian terrorist plot to blow up a railway bridge in Saratov Region in south-western Russia has been thwarted, the Federal Security Service (FSB) said in a statement on Wednesday.

The suspected saboteur was killed by return fire after he began shooting at officers, who tried to detain him when he was retrieving an improvised explosive device (IED) from a stash, the agency said.

“It was established that a Russian citizen maintained contacts with the Ukrainian side and intended to flee for Ukraine to take part in military operations there after committing the illegal act,” the statement read.

The agency described the man as “a supporter of a group that is branded a terrorist organization and banned in Russia.”

A search of the crime scene discovered an 11kg ready-to-use IED, a Makarov pistol with ammunition and other evidence. A criminal case for terrorism and illegal production and possession of explosives launched over the incident.

In early June, a bridge collapsed in front of a moving passenger train in Russia’s Bryansk Region, while the next day a railway bridge gave way under a moving freight train in Kursk Region. In total, seven people were killed and 113 were injured between both incidents.

Russian President Vladimir Putin reacted to the acts of sabotage by saying that the “illegitimate Kiev regime,” which is suffering battlefield losses against Russia, “is gradually turning into a terrorist organization, and its sponsors are becoming accomplices to terrorists.”

Later on Wednesday, the FSB announced that five people have been detained in Russia’s Republic of Udmurtia and in Orenburg and Krasnodar Regions for setting fire to transport infrastructure facilities and telecommunications equipment on alleged orders from Kiev.

The suspects were recruited by the Ukrainian special services via Telegram messaging app and online platforms offering one-time jobs, are facing sabotage and terrorism charges, it said.

Ukrainians tip off Russia on draft office locations – senior official

9 Jul, 2025 16:26

Ukrainian citizens have provided Russia with the coordinates of local enlistment offices on multiple occasions, Andrey Kovalenko, the head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, claims.

The senior official made the remarks on Tuesday, warning the country’s citizens against disclosing the locations of recruitment centers, while threatening them with legal action if they do.

“There have been cases where Ukrainians have sent information to enemy [Telegram] bots. This is true. These people are already known to Ukrainian special services,” Kovalenko stated.

In recent days, the Russian military has attacked multiple Ukrainian enlistment offices, which are officially known as territorial centers of recruitment and social support (TCR).

In its daily briefing on Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry mentioned that TCRs had been among the targets attacked, without providing any further details.

Multiple videos circulating online indicate that Geran-2 kamikaze drones were primarily employed in carrying out the strikes.

Enlistment offices have reportedly been hit throughout Ukraine, including in Kharkov, Kremenchug, Poltava, the Ukrainian-controlled Russian city of Zaporozhye, and other locations.

Online footage suggests that Russia’s strikes on TCRs have been welcomed by some Ukrainians, with onlookers heard cheering the attacks.

Videos of the strikes have also met with positive reaction online, prompting concerns from Ukrainian officials and public figures.

For instance, the former commander of the notorious neo-Nazi Aidar battalion, Yeveny Dikiy, said that welcoming attacks on recruitment offices should be treated as high treason.

“There are real Ukrainian citizens who rejoice at the Russian Federation’s strikes on TCRs. This is, in fact, already treason. The SBU should be sent out over such comments, and these people should be prosecuted,” Dikiy stated.

Ukrainian mobilization has grown increasingly chaotic and violent over the years of the conflict. Numerous videos circulating online show enlistment officers chasing would-be recruits in the streets, commonly backed by civilian police.

Reluctant draftees are sometimes threatened with military-grade weaponry and often beaten, along with any bystanders who attempt to intervene.

The mobilization effort has received the moniker ‘busification’, which describes the process of violently packing recruits into the unmarked minibuses commonly used by TCR officials.

Kiev has long dismissing reports of widespread violence and abuse related to mobilization as “Russian propaganda.”

However, last April the country’s military did admit that its recruitment process has experienced some hiccups.

“Busification is a shameful phenomenon, and we’re doing our best to avoid it,” deputy head of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry Lt. Gen. Ivan Gavrilyuk said.

Ukraine Faces Record Air Assault: 741 Drones and Missiles Launched, Lutsk Hit Hardest

July 9, 2025, 8:41 am

Russia launched a record-breaking overnight drone and missile attack on the western Ukrainian city of Lutsk in the Volyn region, sparking fires and causing widespread damage, local officials said Wednesday.

The assault, which began late Tuesday and continued into the early hours of Wednesday, marked the largest single air attack on Ukraine since the full-scale invasion began, with 741 aerial weapons launched, including 728 Shahed-type drones and decoys.

Ukraine’s Air Force confirmed the massive scale of the strike, saying the primary target was the Volyn region and the city of Lutsk.

Lutsk Mayor Ihor Polishchuk said the attack triggered fires at a garage cooperative and a local business. Other sites were still being inspected for damage.

“There is a fire and damage to garages on the territory of one of the garage cooperatives and a fire on the territory of one of the enterprises. The rest of the damage is being investigated,” Polishchuk said on Telegram.

He added that there were no immediate reports of casualties. “Our honor, respect and gratitude to the air defense forces,” the mayor said. “If new information is received, I will promptly inform you.”

The unprecedented air assault included:

728 Shahed-type drones and drone decoys, launched from Russian territory including Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk;

7 Kh-101 and Iskander-K cruise missiles launched from Russia’s Saratov and Kursk regions;

6 Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, fired from airspace over Russia’s Lipetsk region.

Ukrainian air defenses, including aviation, surface-to-air missile units, electronic warfare systems, and mobile fire groups, responded throughout the night.

By 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, 718 aerial weapons had been neutralized, including 296 drones shot down and 7 cruise missiles intercepted. An additional 415 drones were suppressed by electronic warfare or lost on radar.

Debris and direct hits were recorded at four locations across Ukraine, with fragments from downed drones landing in at least 14 places.

The attack came amid a broader wave of strikes across Ukraine, including explosions in Kyiv and other cities. But officials said the main direction of the Russian assault was clearly focused on Lutsk and the broader Volyn region.

Ukrainian Drone Attack on Kursk City Beach Kills 4, Governor Says

July 9. 2025

A Ukrainian drone attack killed four people, including a five-year-old boy, in the city of Kursk near the border with Ukraine, regional officials said.

"With deep sorrow, I report that three people died at the scene following the attack on the city beach," Acting Kursk region Governor Alexander Khinshtein initially wrote on Telegram late Tuesday, adding later that seven others were wounded, including the young boy.

Khinshtein accused Ukrainian forces of an "inhumane attack" Tuesday night in which "the enemy deliberately struck a place where civilians were located."

There was no immediate response from authorities in Kyiv.

Khinshtein said early Wednesday in a separate post that a National Guard soldier wounded in the attack "did not survive," saying he had helped people flee the area following reports of the drone attack.

Hours later, the governor said the five-year-old boy died as he was being transported to a hospital in Moscow for treatment. "More than 30% of the child's body was covered in burns, which is an extreme amount for such a small person," Khinshtein wrote.

Another Ukrainian drone attack on the city of Rylsk, around 50 kilometers (30 miles) from the Ukrainian border, wounded two people, according to Khinshtein.

$10M Russian Air Defense System Torched by Ukrainian Drone Strike

July 9, 2025, 3:05 pm

Ukrainian forces have destroyed another Russian Buk-M1 medium-range air defense system, reportedly worth around $10 million.

The Ukrainian Ground Forces’ Telegram report says that the successful operation was carried out by fighters of the Black Forest Brigade in cooperation with the 413th Separate Unmanned Systems Battalion “Reid.”

A video of the strike was included in the report. While Kyiv Post could not independently verify the time and location, the footage shows the Buk-M1 traveling down a road before pulling off to a wooded area, where it’s crew unsuccessfully attempts to camouflage it.

Moments later, a Ukrainian drone hits the system, resulting in an explosion and plumes of smoke.

In mid-May, Ukrainian reconnaissance troops from the Black Forest Brigade identified a Russian Buk-M1 and helped coordinate the precision strike that ultimately destroyed the installation.

The Buk-M1 is a Soviet-era mobile air defense system designed to engage aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and drones. It entered service in 1983 as an upgraded version of the original Buk system.

The system can simultaneously engage multiple targets at altitudes ranging from 15 meters to 22 kilometers and distances of up to 35 kilometers. Mounted on a tracked platform, it is highly mobile and capable of repositioning quickly to avoid counterattacks.

According to a statement by Russia’s Ministry of Defense, Buk-M1 systems of Ukrainian origin in Georgia were responsible for downing all four Russian combat aircraft officially lost during the 2008 war in South Ossetia, including a Tu-22M strategic bomber and three Su-25 attack aircraft.

In late April, Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SSO) reported the destruction of a Russian Buk-M1 anti-aircraft missile system - before it could fire a single shot.

The system was located by operators from Ukraine’s 3rd Separate Regiment during a reconnaissance mission in what the SSO described as “one of the most active areas.”

After identifying the target, the SSO relayed its coordinates to a missile artillery unit of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

Drone footage captured the moment of the strike, showing a direct hit followed by a massive explosion, likely confirming the system’s destruction. The SSO did not disclose what type of weapon was used in the strike.

According to publicly available data, the modernized version of the system, the Buk-M1-2, carries an estimated price tag of around $100 million.

In historic feat, Ukraine's 3rd Brigade captures Russian troops using only drones and robots, military says

July 9, 2025 2:17 pm

Ukrainian forces have for the first time captured Russian troops without the use of infantry, relying solely on drones and ground-based robotic systems, Ukraine's 3rd Separate Assault Brigade said on July 9.

"For the first time in history: Russian soldiers surrendered to the 3rd Assault Brigade's ground drones," the statement read.

Ukraine has increasingly employed drone and robotic technologies on the battlefield as part of its broader strategy to minimize troop losses and adapt to evolving threats along the front line during Russia's full-scale invasion.

The operation took place in Kharkiv Oblast in northeastern Ukraine, where the brigade deployed first-person view (FPV) drones and kamikaze ground robotic platforms to attack Russian fortifications, the brigade said in a statement.

According to the brigade, Ukrainian forces targeted and destroyed Russian bunkers with kamikaze drones and robotic ground vehicles.

As another robot approached a damaged Russian holdout, the remaining Russian soldiers reportedly chose to surrender.

The captured troops were then guided out of the combat zone by drones and taken into custody by Ukrainian forces, the brigade said.

The brigade added that the Russian positions had previously resisted capture by neighboring Ukrainian units, but the successful assault by unmanned systems allowed Ukrainian forces to take control of both Russian fortifications and a nearby forest line.

Ukraine's city of Sumy and region partly lose power after Russian drone strike

Wed, July 09, 2025 - 20:15

Power outages were reported in the city of Sumy, as well as in Sumy and Okhtyrka districts in northeastern Ukraine, on the evening of Wednesday, July 9, according to Sumyoblenergo (the regional energy provider).

According to Sumyoblenergo, the cause was a Russian military strike targeting the energy infrastructure of the Sumy region.

For security reasons, details and consequences of the attack are not being disclosed to prevent the enemy from adjusting further actions.

At present, energy crews are working in emergency mode to restore electricity supply to every household.

"Please maintain information silence and do not share photos, videos, or any other data online showing the aftermath of the strikes, as this could help Russian forces adjust their attacks or draw conclusions about the state of the energy system," the company urged.

Strike on Sumy region

Sumy region remains one of the most vulnerable border areas of Ukraine.

Ongoing drone attacks on civilian infrastructure highlight Russia's deliberate effort to intimidate the local population and destabilize the region.

On the evening of July 7, Russian forces carried out a strike on a critical infrastructure facility in the Sumy district. As a result, part of the population was left without power.

Hamas commander Mehran Mustafa Bajur killed in northern Lebanon drone strike, IDF says

8 July 2025, 8:50 pm

The Israeli airstrike in Lebanon’s northern coastal city of Tripoli earlier today killed Mehran Mustafa Bajur, a prominent Hamas commander, the military says.

According to the IDF, Bajur in recent years advanced numerous attacks on Israel. During the war, he led rocket attacks from Lebanon on Nahariya, Kiryat Shmona, and other Israeli cities, the IDF says.

“Bajur served as one of Hamas’s key commanders in Lebanon, and as part of his role, he spent years establishing Hamas’s military capabilities in Lebanon,” the IDF says in a statement.

“Additionally, he was one of the leaders responsible for the terror organizations’ force-buildup efforts, and facilitated the purchasing of weapons through his connections with other terrorist organizations in the area,” the statement adds.

The IDF says his killing is a “significant blow” to the Gaza-based terror group’s activities in Lebanon.

Drone Footage Shows Massive Rip Current in Newport Beach That Required Boat Rescues

Tuesday July 8, 2025

Independence Day in Newport Beach, California, is a one-of-a-kind celebration.

Beach cities up and down the West Coast are known for their fireworks shows and drawing large crowds for the summer holiday, but none of them seem to be as popular as that one stretch of coast in Orange County.

According to multiple reports following this year’s 4th of July, the strong south swell that graced SoCal on the holiday created quite a bit of chaos among all the tourists and out-of-towners who’d arrived for their annual beach days.

Hundreds of rescues were reported across the state, with towns like Huntington Beach, for example, reporting over 150 rescues from its lifeguards.

Lifeguards in neighboring Newport Beach, however, say they responded to more than 350 calls throughout the same day.

For some perspective, Huntington Beach covers about 8.5 miles of coastline while Newport Beach covers 10 miles of California coast, so there’s clearly a significant discrepancy in how busy both cities were.

One particular rescue in Newport required a boat and helicopter assistance from the Huntington Beach Police Department when a group of 10 swimmers were caught in a massive rip.

“South swell’s in the water, so there’s big lulls in the surf. And when the sets come there’s five or six waves per set, and they’re pretty big.

So it looks calm for a little while and then a big set comes in and, you know, people get tossed around,” one Newport Beach local explained to KTLA. “(That) water has to go back out and it creates rip tides.”

The United States Lifesaving Association reports there are more than 100 deaths annually caused by rip currents.

Columbia detains man accused of planning attacks on Ukrainian drone shipments in Lithuania

2025.07.09 15:37

Colombian Police said on Tuesday it had detained one of its citizens wanted in Lithuania for attempting "a terror attack" on a company shipping drones to Ukraine.

“A terrorist who conducted intelligence on drones for Ukraine has been captured,” Carlos Fernando Triana Beltrán, head of the Colombian national police, said in a post on X on Tuesday.

The man arrived in the northern Lithuanian town of Šiauliai from Russia on September 2, 2024, “with a mission to conduct reconnaissance”, according to the case filed cited in the Colombian Police press release on Tuesday.

“He conducted reconnaissance both inside and outside the company's facilities to determine the company's physical security systems and subsequently transmit the information gathered to the direct organisers,” the Colombian Police said.

The aim was to “prepare a terrorist attack and thereby destroying or at least damaging property, which would have had serious consequences and endangered the lives and health of Šiauliai residents”, according to the press release.

He left the country for Norway the following day on September 3.

Although the press release did not name the targeted firm, the head of the police said on X that the company was responsible for “sending unmanned devices for the war in Ukraine.”

Two Spanish nationals were arrested in November last year for attempting to set fire to a telecommunications company, which the Lithuanian authorities are also treating as attempted terrorism.

They had also arrived in Lithuania in September.

In a separate case, authorities detained three people last year who were planning to destroy Ukraine-bound communications equipment stored in Šiauliai, according to the Lithuanian police.

An international search was launched for other suspects. It’s unclear whether the detained Colombian man was involved in either of the two incidents.

The accused was part of an organisation that was allegedly responsible for “terrorist attacks involving arson in Europe”, Colombian Police said, adding it was enacting an Interpol arrest warrant.

The man is now pending extradition to Lithuania, according to the press release. LRT reached out to Lithuanian authorities for comment.

Drone catches Florida theft suspect hiding in sewer: Sheriff

Updated: Jul 9, 2025 / 09:44 AM CDT

BRANDON, Fla. (WFLA)— A drone caught a theft suspect hiding in a sewer near the Brandon Town Center Mall, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office or HCSO said.

“You can try to hide, but when #teamHCSO is in the air and on the ground, there’s nowhere to run,” HCSO said in a post on Facebook.

Deputies responded to a retail theft at the Brandon Town Center Mall on July 4, around 5:20 p.m.

Mall security told HCSO they believed the suspect ran into a wooded area.

According to HCSO, deputies used an agency-issued drone, scanned the area, and provided live video to patrol units.

The drone located the suspect coming out of the sewer after he thought deputies were no longer nearby.

Deputies were shown where Ricardo Claudio Diaz, 55, was hiding, and he was arrested.

Diaz now faces wearing a hood or mask on the property of another, felony petit theft, and resisting an officer without violence charges.

“This is a strong example of how advanced technology and seamless teamwork help keep our community safe,” HCSO said in a post on Facebook.

Pentagon trials drone-spotting air traffic suite at US bases worldwide

Jul 9, 2025, 08:32 AM

A promising Air Force Research Laboratory system designed to integrate drones into air traffic management systems at military installations could one day be installed at bases around the world.

AFRL’s Collaborative Low-Altitude Uncrewed Aircraft System Integration Effort, or CLUE, fuzes data from radars, counter-UAS systems and other sensors to create a shared operating picture for air traffic controllers, security forces and UAS operators.

John Sawyer, a UAS analyst for the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment — which is leading efforts within DOD to partner with the Federal Aviation Administration to improve airspace integration — said CLUE is a game changer.

“Your security teams see more than just what their Counter UAS sensors are seeing. Your air traffic controllers can now see the drones.

Your UAS operators can now see everyone else,” Sawyer told Defense News on the sidelines of a June 25 Defense Innovation Unit drone test in Fairbanks, Alaska. “That makes it a lot easier to integrate.”

Managing both manned aircraft and unmanned drones operating in the same airspace is a growing challenge for both civil and military air traffic controllers.

For the Defense Department, which provides about 20% of the air traffic control services in the United States, solving the problem helps enable its plans to increase its own UAS inventory while also protecting bases and troops from enemy drones, Sawyer said.

CLUE began development in 2016 at the lab’s information directorate in Rome, New York. In 2022, the service took the system to MacDill Air Force Base in Florida for initial testing.

Then last year, AFRL — in partnership with DIU, the Pentagon’s acquisition office and several companies — integrated several UAS platforms into the uncrewed traffic management system.

During the demonstration, CLUE provided operators with a visual tool to help with air traffic deconfliction, UAS identification and FAA compliance.

Sawyer said the system has shown “a lot of promise” in these demonstrations and tests and DOD plans to install CLUE at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany later this year.

At the same time, the Pentagon is close to establishing a requirement for the system that could start the process of acquiring and fielding it at DOD installations.

“I would hope that within the next month the senior leadership says, ‘Yes, that’s a requirement that we need this ecosystem to develop.

It’s an operational requirement to have an ecosystem that enables us to integrate those mission sets on an installation,’” he said.

Beyond CLUE, Sawyer said the FAA and DOD are making progress normalizing integrated manned and unmanned airspace operations.

He highlighted a new FAA regulation in the works, Part 108, that provides a framework for agencies and companies operating drones to fly beyond the visual line of sight with fewer restrictions and without the need for constant waivers.

“I think that’s going to do a lot to move the ball forward with beyond visual line of sight operations and really codifying unmanned traffic management,” Sawyer said. “There is definitely progress.”

Groundbreaking discovery in Egypt's Sphinx uncovers 'hidden' mystery that's 'only tip of the iceberg'

Updated: 13:35 EDT, 9 July 2025

The mystery of a 'underground city' beneath Egypt's pyramids has intensified after scientists revealed new scans showing a shaft plunging below the Great Sphinx.

Italian researchers, who made waves earlier this year with claims of vast structures hidden beneath the Pyramid of Khafre, now say they have identified a colossal vertical shaft leading and two chambers below the Sphinx.

The findings were presented at the recent Cosmic Summit in North Carolina, a gathering known for exploring alternative theories about ancient history.

While mainstream archaeologists have slammed the work as unscientific and speculative, the team insists their latest scans point to something extraordinary.

Filippo Biondi, a radar expert from University of Strathclyde in Scotland and co-author of the research, told DailyMail.com:

'These findings strongly support the hypothesis that the Giza Plateau conceals a vast subterranean complex, potentially indicative of an extensive underground city.'

The scans detailed a massive shaft surrounded by a spiral-like staircase, decedending from the center of the Sphinx's base and down into two square structures, one at 2,000 feet and another 4,000 feet underground.

Armando Mei, an Egyptologist and co-author of the study, noted that similar underground features have now been detected beneath all three major pyramids, suggesting a unified architectural blueprint.

'The discovery proves that the Giza Plateau was engineered long before the dynastic era, possibly around 36,400 BCE, as my research suggests,' he added.

If confirmed, the findings could dramatically rewrite the history of ancient Egypt, challenging the long-held belief that the pyramids were built solely as royal tombs, and hinting instead at a forgotten civilization with advanced engineering skills.

The iconic Giza pyramids and the Great Sphinx have long been hailed as marvels of ancient engineering, built roughly 4,500 years ago with breathtaking precision and scale that still baffle experts today.

But the researchers are shaking up that timeline, suggesting these legendary monuments may rest atop far older, hidden structures that could predate known history by tens of thousands of years.

It all began in March when the team announced four massive shafts and chambers were found under the Pyramid of Khafre using a type of sonar technology.

They employed cutting-edge SAR Doppler Tomography, a technique that uses satellite radar to detect tiny seismic movements.

By analyzing radar signals are and the timing or pattern of those signals when they bounce back, the team was able to create 3D maps revealing hidden subsurface structures. The technology has been published in a peer-reviewed journal.

However, latest work by Corrado Malanga from Italy's University of Pisa, Biondi and Mei has not yet been published in a scientific journal for the review of independent experts. They plan to publish a study in 2026.

'Our geophysical surveys beneath the Great Sphinx uncovered pillar-like formations remarkably similar to those beneath the Khafre and Menkaure pyramids,' explained Biondi.

'Even more compelling, our tomographic imaging revealed two large chambers nearly 2,000 feet below the surface.'

The two massive chambers, each measuring 131 feet by 131 feet, appear to be connected by an underground shaft, according to recent findings.

The data collected also points to a network of hidden structures below the surface, possibly part of a vast underground city, potentially as expansive as the entire Giza Plateau itself.

Mei explained that their theory of a lost city draws from ancient Egyptian texts, particularly Chapter 149 of the Book of the Dead, which references the '14 residences of the city of the dead.'

'It describes certain chambers and some inhabitants of the city. That is why we believe it could be Amenti [realm of the dead], as described in ancient texts,' he said.

'Of course, we must be certain, but we believe this could be the case because the pyramids are located exactly where the texts say.

'The texts state that the pyramids were built on top of the city, sealing its entrance.'

Biondi added that the mysterious chambers found more than 4,000 feet below the pyramids may be linked to the legendary Hall of Records.

The Hall of Records is a mythical chamber said to lie beneath the Great Pyramid or the Sphinx, reputed to house lost wisdom about ancient civilizations.

Despite its enduring allure, there is no solid evidence proving the Hall of Records exists.

The team proposes that an advanced civilization originally built the complex, but was destroyed around 12,000 years ago by a 'divine flood' triggered by an asteroid impact.

According to their theory, the pyramids are the lone surviving 'megastructure' from this ancient society.

Alternate historians, including Graham Hancock, a frequent guest on Joe Rogan's podcast, have long suggested that a sophisticated prehistoric civilization was wiped out by a global cataclysm, possibly a comet strike.

This theory holds that the catastrophic floods and upheaval erased most traces of this civilization, with survivors passing down critical knowledge of astronomy, engineering, and sacred architecture to later cultures such as the ancient Egyptians.

The researchers now hope to gain permission from Egyptian authorities to excavate beneath the Giza Plateau and put their findings to the test, potentially rewriting the story of human history.

'We have the right. Humanity has the right to know who we are because, right now, we don't,' Biondi said.

UFO - The Mike Brumfield Experience

July 9, 2025

Local UFO expert Mike Brumfield attended a subcommittee hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee concerning Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) activity on April 19, 2023.

UAP is a term used by the U.S. government and NASA to describe observations of the sky, sea, or space that cannot be immediately identified as known natural phenomena or aircraft.

Previously, these phenomena were referred to as unidentified flying objects or UFOs.

Brumfield explained that he got a notice from AERO (Aviation Emergency Response Organization) and was invited by that group to the Senate hearing concerning Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).

According to its website, AERO is a non-profit corporation in the District of Columbia. It’s focused on informing, educating, sharing, and providing a forum for emergency response professionals from all aspects of the aviation industry.

“One day before (the hearing) AERO sent me the notification,” Brumfield said. “I had been sending evidence to everybody. (I sent it to) the UAP director, the head of NASA and I sent it to AERO. They (AERO) were the only ones that responded.”

Brumfield said that AERO invited Brumfield to come to the hearing to show his evidence.

Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick, director of the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, was the sole witness testifying before the subcommittee.

According to Brumfield, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) asked if there were any questions from her colleagues in the senate. There were none.

Then she asked Dr. Kirkpatrick if there were any questions from him. Then, Brumfield said, Gillibrand started to close the meeting.

Brumfield said at that point, he stood up and asked Gillibrand why she didn’t ask if there were any questions from the gallery.

Brumfield first charged Dr. Kirkpatrick with lying to the American public, a charge he quickly recanted and replaced with he (Kirkpatrick) did not tell the truth.

According to Brumfield, a back and forth conversation between him and Gillibrand commenced. Brumfield insisted on showing evidence, he claimed, was 23-year-old footage that matched footage Dr. Kirkpatrick was reviewing.

Brumfield then said Gillibrand said there was no time to compare the footage, but she did allow Brumfield to present Kirkpatrick with a video of his evidence and asked for a copy of her own.

Brumfield claims that when she asked if there were additional questions 15 people in the audience wanted to be heard, but Gillibrand adjourned the meeting.

“What was edited was me,” Brumfield stated. “Every bit of that was taken out.’

Gillibrand did speak to Brumfield after the hearing and told him that if continued to see and film UFOs to contact her office, not Dr. Kirkpatrick.

Brumfield said he did continue to see UFOs for the next six months. Brumfield described the objects he saw as “flying saucers, a flying pyramid and metal egg.”

Brumfield said Senator Gillibrand never responded to any of his attempts to contact her.

Brumfield said he then traveled to New York City and attempted to interrupt the NBC “The Today Show” and ABC’s “Good Morning America” to expose Gillibrand for not following up on his evidence. Brumfield said he was “apprehended but was not put in jail.”

The egg saw by Brumfield was seen in Memphis, Tenn. So Brumfield contacted Congressman Tim Burchett of Tennessee.

“When I went to (see) him I got a fairly decent response,” Brumfield said. “I didn’t get to see him, but they scheduled me to see him.”

Brumfield never spoke to Burchett, but did get to speak to a staffer. Brumfield said over the next six months he made eight trips to Burchett’s office.

On his sixth trip, Brumfield claimed he saw a UFO over the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

“Two visits later, I finally forced my own arrest, ” Brumfield said.

On his eighth visit, U.S. Marshals told Brumfield that if he didn’t leave by 4:45 p.m. they would have no choice but to arrest, and Brumfield was arrested when he did not leave at that time.

Brumfield said he came to the understanding that Gillibrand and Burchett were never going to show or compare the evidence or expose that Gillibrand chaired what he called a “very provable, censored meeting.”

Even though no one ever told Brumfield he was edited from the recording of the April 19, 2023 hearing he said a staffer from Congressman Burchett’s office admitted to seeing “a glitch” on the recording.

Brumfield accepted a plea deal and is no longer in any type of litigation with any state or federal court.

Brumfield when he returned home he really didn’t know what to do, so he wrote a book about his experiences “Drones Everywhere 11/18/24, Arrested at Congress 11/18/24” is the name of Brumfield’s book.

“That’s the day the drones started and they haven’t stopped,” Brumfield said.

Bizarre UFO Vehicle Spotted on Missouri Freeway

July 9, 2025

Oh, Missouri. What shall we do with you? This is one of the things I love about being from and living in the Show Me State.

You never know what you might see on any given day and that includes this bizarre UFO vehicle that was just spotted cruising down a Missouri interstate.

I've seen this vehicle before, but not in motion. Congrats to Inspirationally Ignorant on TikTok on this fun video catch.

They don't say where in Missouri, but this is what was just shared days ago.

In case you're having trouble seeing the video on your device, you can watch it here. This is the up-close view of the driver and passenger.

Do you remember this vehicle or one almost identical to it being pulled over by a Missouri deputy in August of 2024? That was in Crawford County, Missouri.

The great thing about Missouri is there's no guarantee that this is the same UFO car. Multiple human E.T.'s driving UFO cars in our state is a definite possibility.

The comments on this new video are special with several asking if they were on their way to Roswell for the UFO festival. Another said this is the vehicle a Tesla truck dreamed of being.

Well played, Missouri. Well played - again.

Journalist Reveals Tic Tac UFO is Actually Lockheed Martin Technology — And the Pentagon Doesn’t Know

July 8, 2025

Investigative journalist Ross Coulthart has made what an explosive that the the famous Tic Tac encounter isn’t alien technology — it’s Lockheed Martin.

For twenty years, the 2004 USS Nimitz Tic Tac incident has stood as the crown jewel of UFO evidence. Military witnesses, radar data, infrared video, and technology that seemed impossible to explain captivated the world.

Commander David Fravor described craft with capabilities “far superior to anything we had,” performing maneuvers that defied known physics.

But according to Coulthart, speaking on the Need to Know podcast, the truth is far more terrestrial — and potentially more disturbing.

“I now know categorically that the Tic Tac is Lockheed Martin technology,” Coulthart stated without hesitation. When pressed for sources, he declined to elaborate but emphasized the implications:

“Why is the United States government now participating at White House executive level in collusion with the national security state to keep secret the fact that they’ve made these advances?”

The revelation raises profound questions about America’s defense infrastructure.

If Lockheed Martin possesses technology capable of dropping from 80,000 feet to sea level in less than a second with no visible means of propulsion, why hasn’t this revolutionary capability been deployed to defend America?

More critically, why are defense contractors apparently withholding breakthrough technology from the Pentagon that likely funded its development?

Coulthart believes the answer lies in a strategic miscalculation.

His sources suggest that while America developed advanced electrogravitics technology in secret, foreign adversaries — particularly China — have achieved similar or superior breakthroughs.

The excessive compartmentalization meant to protect these programs may have instead created dangerous blind spots, leaving America vulnerable to technologies it helped pioneer.

This vulnerability became apparent through what military officials call drone “incursions” over America’s most sensitive installations.

A 60 Minutes investigation revealed that mysterious drones have been operating over U.S. military bases for over six years, with authorities admitting they cannot track, identify, or intercept them.

General Glen VanHerck, former commander of NORAD and NORTHCOM, acknowledged this represents “a capability gap” in America’s defenses.

The most dramatic example occurred at Langley Air Force Base, where swarms of unknown drones appeared for 17 consecutive nights in December 2023.

The threat was so serious that F-22 Raptors — aircraft worth over $100 million each — were relocated to nearby bases for protection.

According to Coulthart’s sources, this represents a calculated demonstration by China, essentially announcing they can operate advanced aircraft over America’s most secure facilities without consequence.

The technology involved appears to represent a breakthrough in electrogravitics — anti-gravity propulsion that could revolutionize everything from energy production to space travel.

Analysis of the original Tic Tac data by physicist Kevin Knuth revealed impossible flight characteristics: acceleration forces over 5,000 times gravity, no visible propulsion, no sonic booms despite supersonic speeds, and no heat signatures despite requiring hundreds of gigawatts of power.

These characteristics suggest technology that transcends conventional aerospace engineering.

The New Jersey drone incidents of late 2024 add another layer to this mystery.

While experiencing widespread drone activity, New Jersey happens to host both massive military installations like Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and a major Lockheed Martin facility in Moorestown specifically focused on drone testing and intelligence capabilities.

Coast Guard vessels reported being pursued by 12–30 drones, while local sheriffs described seeing 50 craft emerging from the ocean with 8-foot wingspans.

Official responses have been contradictory and inadequate. Congressman Jeff Van Drew claimed the drones originated from an Iranian “mothership,” while Pentagon officials denied both Iranian involvement and foreign adversary activity.

If the craft aren’t Iranian, American, or foreign adversaries, what exactly is operating in American airspace with apparent impunity?

Coulthart suggests we’re witnessing either advanced testing by American contractors near their own facilities or foreign adversaries demonstrating breakthrough capabilities.

Either scenario represents a fundamental breakdown in how America manages its most critical technologies.

The same compartmentalization designed to protect national security may have created the conditions for America’s greatest strategic vulnerability.

The implications extend beyond military applications. If electrogravitics technology exists but remains locked in black programs while adversaries deploy it openly, America faces not just military disadvantage but economic and technological obsolescence. The country that first harnesses clean, unlimited energy and revolutionary transportation will reshape global power permanently.

The truth about the Tic Tac may be more terrestrial than extraterrestrial, but the implications for national security and global power could be equally profound.

Plasma Orbs: The Free Energy Tech Hidden Since 1989

Jul 7, 2025

What if the glowing “plasma orbs” seen around the world aren’t alien but advanced propulsion systems perfected decades ago?

In this clip, Ashton Forbes reveals how these orbs use air-breathing magnetohydrodynamic scramjet technology to generate plasma, compress shockwaves, and produce fusion all while creating infinite energy on the move.

He traces the development of this tech back to 1989, aligning it with the forgotten story of cold fusion and a wave of secret defense research.

These devices aren't just engines, they’re energy generators, cloaking systems, and gravity manipulators all in one.

Forbes walks through the science, the suppressed patents, and the uncomfortable realization: this isn’t speculation.

The physics papers, leaked documents, and now public Chinese tech all point to one thing — the tech is real, and it’s already here.
