Pushing for a convention of states.

I used to get quite panicked when well meaning people mentioned a CoS as a way to put term limits on Congress people.

Not because it’s our job to vote people out who have been in too long— because it is and we’ve failed it. Mostly because of election fraud— which is our failure too. We should have been vigilant and participated strongly.

No. That’s not why. Because -no matter what starts- a Constitutional Convention, the process always goes back to Congress for actions and dispensation. That’s codified. A convention of states is only temporarily out of Congress’ hands for the first steps. And then it gets handed over to AOC and Marjorie Taylor Greene to do battle over as they make edits and put it to a vote.

edits. The legal possibility and potentiality of our corrupt disgusting Congress to do whatever the hell they want with those edits, even shredding parts of it not at issue under the CoS that started the process, has long been warned about by legal scholars as a ‘runaway convention’.

And we’ve had such a corrupted playing field that I’ve had no doubt that they’d say ‘yes we can do this’ and rewrite it scrap the whole thing.. with the same disregard for the process, the law and the people with which they impeached Trump, corrupted elections, worked with Chinese spies, etc etc, and continue to grasp for all kinds of powers they do not have but so desperately want.

? As in, ‘We’re getting rid of this outdated document drafted by old white men slave owners’? And bwang! No borders, no guns, and hate speech is federally illegal.

Because these are the people who would be responsible for the rewrite. You HOPE they would just politely tack on your proposed term limits amendment, as you officially hand the process over to them and have to step away.

Yeah it used to rile me and I’d warn people. Now — well. Now I think. Wouldn’t that be the biggest wake up call? To watch the Constitution shredded on Cspan in favor of a new, updated one which was not written ‘just by white people?’
